We were there couple weeks ago and caught 3 buckets of herring on sabiki rigs. non-stop action for 7 hours! Was epic! Good thing u had J to scare off the security guard! Lol!
I fished that pier a few weeks ago. Cops walked down the pier and waved at people. No problems. Got 1/3 bucket, then ran over to Agua Vista and netted the rest of the bucket. Fun day!
Brah I like ur channel and you seem like good kid down where I’m at we have the lamest big mouth ritch kids that only want to catch a shark and don’t really appreciate or respect animals they are catching just by the way you took the time to go after the herring shows that you love to fish and you do it with what you have not a show off but you have pride and respect for fishing you are doing it the hard and that makes pros
Thanks for watching! I like 1/2 - 1 oz depending on the depth. Swimbaits or bucktails are the way to go in the bay, the Madame Lure 3.5" swimbait is my favorite. Spoons work as well. The striper bite is already picking up, good luck!
@@sf_angler not heavily enforced but why use 4,5,or6 when all you have to do is dip 3 hooks back down again and hook up. Not worth getting in trouble using more. Plus more chances of snagging.
As both a fisherman and a biologist, catching fish during the spawn is the way to decrease a population. That's why salmon populations are dwindling and we have hundreds of hatcheries dedicated to preserving the species. Can you see that happening to Herring and sardines?
Definitely something to think about. Large scale commercial fisheries can certainly threaten forage fish populations like the collapse of the Monterey Bay sardine fishery. I don't think recreational fishing poses a threat to the herring though. In California there is little to no salmon fishing when they are spawning, by the way.
The herring are gone from this location unfortunately. There was a spawn last week at candlestick park so there could possibly be another spawn somewhere. Usually herring spawn in December and January in the SF Bay
There are plenty of herring making it back to the ocean. Commercial fishing is what is depleting the fish. So I take it you never buy wild caught fish. Lol
Awesome! I am going herring fishing tomorrow in Newport Oregon. Going to make a video.
Hope you caught some! Thanks for watching

"Private Property." and then "This is a public pier" LMAOOOO😭
It was definitely a private pier lol
Sabiki Legend!
What lures/ jig heads would you recommend for striped bass? They're going to run through the bay soon!!! Also great video!
Swim baits!!

What size is the hook ?
well done lad
Not to be a buzzkill, but the hook limit for the SF bay is 3 hooks. Using a 6 hooks in the bay is considered illegal poaching.
What size Sabiki is best for herring? Thanks
What months out of the year can you catch them there and what is the limit?
Thanks for watching! They usually show up in the bay from December-February but can be very unpredictable. Limit is 10 gallons per day
How many hooks on the sabiki rig allowed? Do the dfg enforce it?
Thanks for watching! Only 3 hooks per line are allowed in SF Bay. The rule is not heavily enforced

So did that "rent a cop" eventually come back to kick you guys out or was he just trying to scare you away?
Thanks for watching! I think he eventually gave up because no one was leaving
Do u eat them or bait?
Both! Kept a bunch for bait and ate some both pickled and fried. Thanks for watching
What type of rod/reel are using and what size sabiki rig?
Thanks for watching! I used an ultralight uglystik gx2 but rod and reel doesn't really matter for baitfish. Sabiki rig was size 10

all the people there seem so nice, too bad that one dude couldn't get onto the pier
Where is this?
Mission Bay in San Francisco. The herring spawned all the way from McCovey Cove to Agua Vista
@@sf_angler Good to know. Just moved here been fishing Pacifica municipal pier only. Glad I found your channel, great content 🎣
Is this Pier 50?
I caught herring with my cast net at fort baker
🤙
Hi is the bite still on? Or is it time for a net?

@@sf_angler ok, new the catching herring just wondering where they could be. Good to know for next year
Man I was in the exact sport you were and killed em with the net. Not one snag
no wonder there no more fish in the ocean
