Hi Lisa, shout out from the Bahamas 🇧🇸 I tried your johnny bread recipe and it was AMAZINGLY DELICIOUS; five linking lips emoji 😋😋😋😋😋 keep up the good work 👏 11/25/2023 10:06am. I made Bahamian stew fish with it 😊
I'm Bahamian born and bread Lol, and I've noticed over the years "Johnny Cake" has change to "Johnny bread". Lol. Now the younger generation says there is a difference. Lol. But really it's just different variations of Johnny Cake and being old school it hurts my heart when I hear people call it Johnny Bread😅...some add butter, some add milk etc. But I love your recipe, personally I bake mine with this consistency also.
Interesting, I've always known it to be "Johnny Bread" and I always wondered why some people refer to it as Johnny cake. Good to know lol but it's not cake to me. It's our version to American corn bread in my opinion lol. I'm glad you love this recipe and thanks for watching!!
I just start hearing this Jonny bread thing. It's always been Jonny cake. I wonder when this started. Lol. I do like yours to. It's nice like a cake to me. I started making mine like yours. It's easier and it got a nice fluff to it. 2 👍👍
Johnny cake(fried dumplings) in my country is round balls of dough fried. This is new to me and makes more sense with a name of Johnny cake and the round dough ball to be called bread. But I’m willing to try this.
Lisa, thanks for sharing this delicious recipe. I've made several versions of Johnny cake, but I enjoyed this one the most. It was moist and fluffy. I think keeping the batter thick but moist made the difference. Also, I baked it in two 8 x 4 loaf pans. It was done in 35 minutes. Great job!
@Shervin Ferguson Hi there! My video is the guide to this recipe. I list all the ingredients to this recipe and all my others in the description box located in the more section under this video. Thanks for watching!!
Awesome recipe with perfect texture. Only thing I would change is the carnation milk measurement or to probably use regular milk. The flavor of the carnation milk was a little strong for me , but still a great recipe
Hey love. It does make a difference when you use regular milk. It's funny because I made it last week using whole milk because I didn't have carnation and I thought it was too light. I love the rich flavor the carnation gives it!! That's why I always say in my videos, you can make the recipes yours because we all have different taste buds. Thanks for watching love ❤️
Hey! I visited the Bahamas for the first time and I tried Johnny Cake there. I really liked it and wanted to try making it at home. Does anyone know the right metric measurements for this recipe? That would be great!
Hey Sydney! Thanks for sharing such a great alternative to the carnation milk! Glad it worked out for you! I forgot to mention in the video that Johnny bread taste best warmed with butter on it- if you're from the Bahamas which I'm sure you are judging by your name, you know that already 😉
Hi there! Thank you. I've never actually had haitian potatoe bread but that sounds so good I need to get my fingers on a good recepie for that. Calling my mom asap for that one lol 😆

Hey love. Your oven probably needs more time. Every oven works differently. So whenever you're baking, put a toothpick in the center to make sure it comes out clean before taking it out. If it's wet, it need more time. If it wasn't your oven, then your measurements could've been off, but my money is on the oven. Try it again!

Hi Joan, awww so happy to hear you guys are enjoying this recipe!
The Belizian way is to make them more like American breakfast biscuits but like round bread cakes. They are journey cakes called Johnny cakes.
