HOW Akiko's performance/execution score was lower than Mao's in this competition I will never, ever understand. This is a masterpiece- gives me the chills. Akiko is always a wonderful performer but this is truly special!!
I love Akiko! She always skates with so much heart. Her music is always unique and beautiful. She has overcome so much to be where she is now. She should have won this event, no question. Hopefully the judges will treat her better in the future.
This program is an absolute masterpiece! Akiko has something very special on the ice, you can't take your eyes off her. Such a shame she wasn't able to perform on this level at the world championships this year. We know what she's capable of, we know she has a great technique, we know she has this wonderful artistry... She's without a doubt one of my favourite skaters at the moment! I just wish I could shake the Sasha Cohen syndrom out of her...
i knew this super girl in 2009 Japanese national , then i read about her diet disorder and how she fight to come back. i am so impressed, her performance in Olympics made me burst into tears. such a tiny girl with such a strong mind. Akiko , keep on fighting, i hope to see you on the podium 2014
I LOVED this skate, and I adore this program. Her final step sequence, complete with that gorgeous spiral is breathtaking (she got all +2's and +3's on the GOE for that)! She is getting better and better, and I think that has to do with her confidence... she's realizing she's GOT it, and I think at this point the judges are no longer able to view her as "that other Japanese skater." She's now in it for gold!!! Good luck Akiko, from a HUGE fan in America.
Here's the breakdown of the scoring: Go here, and click ladies free isuresults(dot)com/results/gpjpn2012 Akiko beat Mao by almost 10 points in the free program, which is why she was only a tenth (.10) away from winning gold, despite being in fifth after the short. If she had done better in the short, she would have towered above everyone else with the gold. It was the short that did her in. Akiko also got edge deductions for the two lutzes, which is strange since she rarely flutzes.
Even if you are a fan of Akiko, you should be able to see that judges rewarded Akiko with 126.62, a personal best!!!!!!! her best score ever!!!!! but she was ~10 points behind Mao after the short. Perhaps, Akiko should also get 10 points bonus, in addition to her personal best, just to win the competition. That would be more fair huh???
The acting beautiful in the best by which a soul shut itself up. But for some reason, about two.Acting of the person who won the victory was also regrettable acting of jump failure 4 times. At this rate no one can think as a just judge.
one of the best free program ever.
best choreographed sequence so far this season. powerful, graceful, artistic. and that ending part says it all
Akiko is Good
One of the legendary program ever

What a moving skating. I loved it a lot. Strong and graceful. I love the music, too.
