While at Shot Show, we were shooting an Aero Precision rifle at 500 yards at a 4” target with 6.5 Creedmoor; it was amazing. So watching you put bullet to meat at around that range with such precision is amazing 😎
Beautiful "Clown of the plains".. and a great shot Schalk. Well done on another epic video and hunt guys. Piet, jy moet jou FX saam vat vir die Dassies.
I'd go with a triggercam if it wasn't so freaking expensive, with shipping, duties, etc. it would be just under $900CAD to buy one from the States. Where I can go down to my local Cabela's and pick up a Tactacam and scope mount for about $735CAD.
You should do a cooking video for us Americans. I've eaten a lot of animals before, but never one of these. It would be interesting to get a feel for how these different animals taste.
Holy smokes that’s a lot of steel and aluminum to lug out to the bush in the heat! Ever consider going with a more traditional lightweight hunting rifle? A nice Sako or Tikka or X-bolt less than 10lbs all in would be reeeal nice for that stalk! Cheers!
Hey Piet, I have a question, is it legal in SA to use drones in your hunt? Just curious because it is very illegal pretty much everywhere in the states to do that. Love the hunting and match content, keep up the great work!!
I'm not Piet, but also a S African, and as far as I'm aware it is not illegal. "Free range" hunting here is not very common, the animals are typically always owned by a farmer in a high fence area, and there will be a breeding program in place. I'm almost certain this is the case where they are hunting as they shot a Lechwe (previous video) that occurs no nowhere near the "Vrystaat" which is one of our provinces, the might not even occur naturally in South Africa if I'm not mistaken, and he also mentioned the price they paid for each bull they shot. So as it is not "free range" I don't think drones are illegal, you can decide on the morality/ethics of it🤷♂️😂 Even if one was free range hunting, I also doubt that drones would be illegal, and even if they were, there is almost no chance of the authorities finding out. Our hunting is nowhere near as tightly regulated as the states. Hope that answers your question 👍🏼
@@stuartwatson100 Thanks! Yes that is a very helpful answer! Good to learn from other hunters in other places. So cool how free SA hunting is, id love to be able to hunt put there one day!
@@johnlippsmeyer67 ya there are pros and cons to our system... If you have the correct permissions from the farmer you can hunt anytime of the year (once again you decide on the ethics of that) and in many ways does wonders for conservation efforts of endangered animals, but on the flip side it can be very expensive for the average joe and there are a lot of charlatans out there who take advantage of it. I think in the coastal provinces there is a bit more free range hunting going on, but up north where I'm from, you don't hear much of it besides for Varmint type species (warthogs, bushpigs and jackal)
@@johnlippsmeyer67 Hello John, I was reading the comments. I certainly hope that you make your way to South Africa, but it is very addictive. My first hunt in SA was in 1989 and I've been back many times. The only advice I would give you is that you allow (if possible) a little extra time for site seeing.
Gday Piet, question for you, maybe another video idea. What do you think is the ethical ranges to hunt your plains game. Caliber and bullet weight, animal distance and size…. What in your mind is how you determine is too far or too much risk. For me hunting in africa and australia using the caliber i do, i have a hard set distance in mind regardless of how good or bad i shoot.
@@rickoshea8138 thanks mate i am aware of those factors. Simply asking how piet knows he has enough energy at distance with a caliber he is using at any time
@@rickoshea8138 my point is, just because a bullet theoretically can kill a specific animal at a set distance, how does the shooter approach it, asking if its the right thing to do so. A 50 bmg is deadly at 2 miles… am i going to take that shot? Probably not. Im asking about his thinking process for an individual. I can do bc cals too.
I walked down a mountain with a blessbok alone after kipping it at 390y... Will never forget the moment... Almost fell forward with the bok on my nek... Almost broke my own neck heheheh
wish you would show what bullet that was. It seemed to have almost no recoil. But it had to be a big round to bring down that huge creature at 500 meters in just one shot.
Beautifull clean kill. Nothing i like more in a hunt than seeing animals drop on the spot. Quick , humane dispatch. Better quality meat as its not stressed and full of adrenalin.

Fantastic shot Schalk ! Great video footage guys. The Bergers are very impressive 👍🏻
damn... the shooting... the hunting... the wildlife.... what a place South Africa is. If only it wasn't so messed up politically.
What country isn’t messed up politically these days?

Well done. It would also be very interesting to see what you have to do to get that animal back to base (or the butcher shop 😎).
What a shot! Exactly what you want from a kill shot, on the ground within half a second of impact. Great work 👍🏼
Need to find a huge rock pile and pop a few dassi
Still need to get my self a nice big bull like that
Howzit boss I love watching your videos please show the cutting process

Beautiful place with awesome drone footage. Schalk landed an amazing shot.If I may ask what is the name of the hunting place.
Awesome shot
Are you a PH? Do you have any references for guides for plainsgame
What kind of bipod on the rifle?
Why does the video thumbnail have a blue wildebeest on it, but a black wildebeest was shot 🙈🤷♂️

As ek mag vra watse loop en aksie is dit (ek weet jy hou van BAT machine). Asook is die HOWA 1500 reeks goed genoeg vir NRL in terme van akuraatheid?
