- Check out the official guitar playthrough of "Lascivious Undivine" by Cryptopsy's guitarist Christian Donaldson. This track is off As Gomorrah Burns, which recently snagged the 2024 Juno Award for Best Metal Album.

Soo underrated.. they kickstomp the brutality out of most bands for years
Actually Cryptopsy is highly praised for their earlier albums like None So Vile and Blasphemy Made Flesh, but they fumbled hard with "The Unspoken King" so that album put the band out of the radar of many death metal fans even though they have got back into shape with their last album.
@@D14V0R05 The MySpace boomers who called that a "fumble" are the same people who treat None So Vile like Bohemian Rhapsody; It's all they care about.
Cryptopsy's always been evolving with each release. That's what makes them so great 🎵
@@D14V0R05 they have never been out of shape IMO , I loveeeeeeeee the unspoken king. might not be everybody's cup of tea.. but its refreshing to me. and .. I'm following them for 20+ years..so yeah I know where the come from :D
There's that signature disgusting, delirious, "worms crawling up my skin" Cryptopsy style of riffing I love so much.

Donaldson is the absolute best thing since Levassuer. He studied cryptopsy so well it's like he was always a member.

I totally disagree. Jon Levasseur composed amazing riffs and epic guitar solos. Since Donaldson replace him, their songs don't have solos. Otherwise, simple arppegios for beginners...
@LeToaster they're a one guitar band now, most metal bands don't go dimebag Darryl. Donaldson is the closest thing they will ever get to Levassuer.

What tuning is this in? Is that the baritone Ibanez axion label? Looks sick. I really dig the album especially the first 2 tracks ! Is the whole album same tuning? If I had to guess I would guess c standard ish but I don't feel like picking up my guitar and figuring it out haha.
Tuning is B standard, they've always used it on every album.

This band has a drum hero
The drummer has been killing it since 1992 that's gotta be a record in this genre considering how extreme his playing is. "In Abeyance" has some seriously sick drum work I would love to see a video of a playthrough on that one.

He was in the mid-2010s.
He used a Roland trigger that cost about $200 (I used one back then too).
There was a ton of better gear out there.
What I'm trying to say is that I think bass drum triggers should be allowed, for the sake of the music and the drummer's knees and hips (so that great bands can last a long time).
And his drumming is legendary!
CRYPTOPSY FUCKIN SHREDS. Huge fan of the early CRYPTOPSY, especially the Lord Worm era, I'm just glad that Flo Mounier is still the drumer/Oliver still the bassist, and that Christian is a shred master keeping the CRYPTOPSY sound still, considering the several line up changes.
