Clear and useful, and I especially like how you went over specific problems with each incorrect order of operations. This'll help me with the scene I'm working on! Now I'm off to see if you've got a video with a two-horse setup. Wonder how much has changed about this since the middle ages? My tale's set in Medieval Fantasy.
Nice presentation, loud and clear. And I hope folks notice where you placed the traces into the breaching,up & out of the way. Tell me why the header doesn’t have the horse clipped to a lead line.? Even though that horse stands nicely. I was scolded at the National Drive at my lesson, for not having contact with my reins at all time. Even when I change sides, I was to throw the reins over the back and take the reins back up.
Interesting. With Standardbreds hitching is always a two person process, one person on each shaft. But, the shafts on our jog carts and sulkies don't articulate separately.
Thank you for posting these videos! I'm a long time dressage rider, trainer, coach and I am pretty new to driving! Hopefully will be taking on a new mare into training and the owner would like to drive her(she is an experienced driver herself) but she needs help with retraining the mare(groundwork + u/s)which has had some bad experiences with previous trainers. At least I won't sound as ignorant when it comes to the basics of driving and hitching up!:)
I love your videos thank you very much! I’d really like to see an informational video on marathon equipment. What size horse goes to what size carriage and harness as well as carriage weights and what size horse can pull what size carriage in competition and what weight they can pull when training. Another question, I’ve heard that a horse should not pull more than a percentage of its body weight (just like riding) but a mini can pull its own body weight or more so what’s the real answer to how much weight can a horse pull?
If the horse is trained correctly you don’t need anyone at all there to mess with the horse is it does move, just a quick “stand still!” From you should suffice and have the horse stand still and not move his feet at all. That’s how I train mine. She doesn’t need to stand with her head up either, as long as her feet don’t move she should be able to stretch down... They’re called breaching and breaching straps, not hold backs. Please tie your reins up out of the way.

Thank You for taking the time to make this video and share it! So well thought out and positively presented. Short, sweet effective lessons.
Very good clear, easy to follow instructions that make sense!
Excellent explanation of things. Thank you. I can use all the help I can get.
Thank you!! I’m working with a trainer to get my mare going and these videos are super helpful additions!
Thank you for this!
Great details and explanation. Thank you for presenting this

Great video-clear and super useful-thanks!
I noticed some harnesses have loops on the Britching for the reins to go through, and some dont. Is it just a matter of preference?
I need to no how to hich up a pare please
Hi Andy! From Québec city!!! Super video!!! I have a question... Do you recommend the use of small panic snaps on the hold backs?
Yes, I use small snap shackles with a triangle bail designed specifically to be used on web or strapping.
Do you find those shaft ends dig in on tight turns ?
I've the same carriage !!!
Great 👍 thanks man
