a reduction from 36 to 24 booster packs is massive, I hope the price reflects that EDIT: a price increase already in the "third" set is a weird choice to me especially considering the already high price for sorcery.
I don’t think anyone loves the price increase, but I still think the hand painted art and awesome game design is something I am willing to pay for. I am also interested in seeing if the price goes below MSRP as it did with Beta, at least in the US, because margins are pretty decent for Sorcery.
@@CardboardGuide I dont know. Sorcery has to compete with vastly more popular games with vastly bigger playerbases. In my oppionion sorcery should do everything to expand its playerbase by any means. But when their new product for a small set is more expensive than a standard playbooster box from MTG then this doesnt scream exactly inclusivity. People are already complaining about MTG prices, how can it be justifyable to have more expensive products than the big player with their massive playerbase? Affordability is a important point in the business, if the cardboard makers want to hear that or not. The handmade art is sorceries unique sellingpoint and shouldnt be underestimated and I want Sorcery to succeed, dont get me wrong. So cool!!! I dont mind the 24packs, as long as the card set is veey compatible with alpha/beta. I want to see how a beta/AL draft looks!if that works, and is fun, i think they made the absolute right call!
I think the set has been designed to both be able to stand alone for limited formats and to compliment Alpha/Beta very nicely, so I am super excited to see more of this set! Hopefully we will be getting some cool reveals of artwork and cards from GenCon!
I'm not sure how I feel about the smaller pack count. On one hand, it will limit the flood of singles and help retain the value since they will be just as hard to pull as Beta- per box that is. On the other hand it is quite the price hike right out of the gate as the game was gaining traction. A lot of people point out the set size is smaller. I don't really agree with that, as most expansion sets in a CCG are 250-300, and the standard booster box is 36 packs. Nothing says they have to do the standard though. I am kind of torn here. I do like the chase and the rarity of the cards. Foil already did that for BETA. If this was done to keep that pull rate the same, for non-foil, I'm more OK with that.
I think you bring up a lot of good points here, and all I can say is that I am interested in seeing how all these things pan out. I think smaller boxes is fine, but I actually also believe that Arthurian Legends could have been done as a 36 pack booster box. I have a lot of faith in the Sorcery team, so I hope that they have thought through the different options for the set and settled on the one that makes the most sense for pull-rate, chase, draft, etc. Thanks for checking out the video!
If I had my druthers I would take 36 packs because more Sorcery is always better IMO. I sure hope they don't cut the number of cards per pack. If they did that, the price increase per card would be a lot. As long as I can buy about the same number of booster boxes and end up with about the same percentage of cards from the set I am ok with 24 packs. The art on the boxes is amazing. Love that.
It's the most beautiful booster box out there. 24 packs doesn't matter. It makes sense to only have 24 packs with the thought of creating a chase and making it difficult to complete a set. Plus making other card companies only have 24 packs in a box. I still feel it's priced right, and I hope the company can gain more profit and survive the rocky road ahead, and thrive ❤
We would have loved if they kept the same price per booster pack, but in the long run it might not matter that much, as long as the cards are great and they keep print runs under control to keep the cards collectible too.
Being a game that will have YEARLY releases, I believe that box size, pack quantity per box and cards per pack will be a case by case decision. If the next set is 350 cards, they might return to the 36 pack box. The team has a whole year to design every new set. So my belief is that box dimensions will vary more than other games that have more frequent and steady releases. I don´t mind this at all. I prefer them making the optimal decision for each set.
I think that is a really great take, I also trust that the Sorcery team weighed the different options and went with the best possible decision for this set. I also think the sets will vary a lot in size and t the booster box and number of packs will probably swing. As long as the set is well designed and throughly play tested with beautiful art, I will be happy. 😉
The only thing that changed is the price going up. Real bad move for a brand new game trying to compete with a newly invigorated Magic. Not to mention Sorcery going up against a massive October release for some huge games. Magic is still 36 packs and they run 200-250 card sets so that's not a great reason to go to 24. If I had to find logic in it then I'd assume this would be to make sure more people got to open boxes, like a scatter shot approach. So many people bought dozens of boxes to flip singles that now we're left with too many worthless singles but we still want to open boxes. Another issue is making your new set effectivity cheaper than your previous set, which is not the thing to do.
We would also have loved if they kept the 36 packs per box, also to have the same box design for store of sealed product. AL will actually be more expensive per booster pack compared to beta. Beta = 4,16$ per pack, AL = 5,38$ per pack.
I usually speed videos up but this video I slowed down to see the spoilers longer. 😂. 24 packs is fine, I won't complain as long as I get my allotment 😅
We can understand your concern, and the price increase isn't a very welcome thing. But we can also understand, with the smaller set, why they have cut the number of packs. We just hope they go back to 36 packs a box for future sets (and then we try to find out how to store sealed product in different sizes :( )
Thanks for checking out the video. I am pretty sure we will get a least a couple of spoilers of artwork or cards directly from GenCon, so very excited for the next couple of days! 🤩
Definitely don't like seeing the price increase. This is only their second release -- I don't think they've earned the right to ask more of our relatively small community yet. They are delivering a good product, but they were already charging a premium, boutique price. Can't help but shake my head at that.
Yeah, that is disappointing :( We just hope they have managed the shipping to all regions this time, so it won't suck to be living in Europe, where we have been paying outrageous prices for product.
Box art and pack looks great. At the quality and style that is expected from EC. 24 packs is okay. You talk about this, but my main annoyance is that the cost per pack has gone up. Not only is the price increase notable, by dropping from 36 to 24 you have to either open a second box or award alternate prize for drafts. As someone whose playgroup does pack per win it makes our communal buy in for product 193.50 (24.19 a player) before any taxes and fees. Almost $50 higher than Beta was at first! And far more expensive than drafting any other current game. This is assuming there's a decent window to buy and re-buy at msrp. Has EC stated if they're printing more AL than Beta or less? Anyway, still like the game a lot and want it to grow, it's just a hard sell to people financially. To me, a game that's meant to be a player run and appeal to old school kitchen table casual players should try and have the best pack to cost ratio. Obviously this is real life and not a fantasy, but to see a price increase set 2 feels antithetical to that.
Thank you for watching the video and taking the time to leave a comment, we appreciate it! Yeah, I think it is fine and at the end of the day, we will still be buying boxes, but it is a noticeable price increase and a good point about the draft, but presumably the also factored the Dust for event participation and the Dust code in the box into the equation. We won't be getting any details about the print run of Beta or AL, or any future sets for the matter, as the only reason we knew the print run of the Alpha boxes was because it was the Kickstarter model. I do think them printing Arthurian Legends in waves makes it, somewhat, easier to hit the right amount and get product to the areas where it is needed and to stores who are growing the community and hosting events.
@@CardboardGuide Thank you for making the video! Dust is definitely something to consider. My area doesn't have any registered LGS and none are interested so our playgroup just runs it ourselves so dust has never really been a consideration for me. The box code as prize is something. Hoping we see wider available at the lGS level and in the previously underserved regions. Probably a smaller pack number keeps the amount of boxes needed to complete a set similar…sort of? Wondering if the set cost more to produce which was passed along to us. Would hope Erik would comment on this. Less cards for more cost. Why?
I think it makes sense taking the set size into account, and perhaps something with packaging cost also being smaller and still having 6 boxes to a case. I think inflation on a broad scale, increased cost of production and shipping is a lot of the increased cost.

Smaller set, smaller number of packs, smaller price. If it is the first cards some people play with, thanks to a wider game store release, it is welcome to have cheaper boxes.
@@tg4463 Absolutely, and the box on the shelf has extreme appeal, and when people open and see the cards, I think this set will bring in a lot of new people. 😍

As we said in the video the new MSRP for the product will be $129, so the price will be lowered but the price per pack will still see an increase, if stores choose to sell at MSRP and we did see some stores selling for cheaper with Beta.

I agree, and I think if we also factor in some inflation and the rising cost of shipping and production at least some of the answer for the price increase can be found there. I think the box is simply a masterpiece just in itself and the gilded and embossed text has me super excited for the chase knights! 😍
The increase of the price is painfull. There has to be 15 cards per pack.
I bet they are less!
15 cards per booster has been confirmed :)
@@CardboardGuide good news!
So does this mean they will be a lower price? If the price is lower great.. if its same price for less packs then I would not be happy haha
As we said in the video the new MSRP for the product will be $129, so the price will be lowered but the price per pack will still see an increase, if stores choose to sell at MSRP and we did see some stores selling for cheaper with Beta.
@@CardboardGuide ohhh Thank you!! I missed that part was cooking breakfast and watching hahaa I have 3 boxes pre ordered via Team Covenant so hopefully ill be able to buy one more locally then once it is released. Original plan was to open 2 keep one sealed but now looks like im going to have to open 3!! and just buy singles to complete my playset like I did for beta. Thank you for the quick response and amazing content!! I love your channel :o)
No problem! Yeah, even though we are in Europe we also have to boxes pre-ordered with Team Covenant, and we will probably be buying a case of Arthurian Legends in Europe in addition to those two boxes. We will also be collecting the full set like with did with Alpha and Beta, that has been a lot of fun and we want to continue trading and enjoying having the full set.
Thank you for the kinds words, we always try to answer and participate as much as we can in the comments, as engaging with the community is our favourite part of doing UA-cam! 😍
😮😮😮😮😮😮😮
Surprised Pickachu face indeed, it will be very exciting to see how the set and box feels when we finally get to open some product in October! Thanks for always commenting and checking out the videos! 😍
Great work guys! I am disappointed that EC did not communicate any of this themselves. I really hope the card count remains the same considering that the price per pack has increased already.
Thanks for checking out the video!
I think this is a part of the Sorcery team's spoiler plans to let Rudy spoil the box and pack art. My only issue with it is that after the video I would have loved to see them put up good, high resolution pictures of the box, pack and the art pieces revealed, so we could enjoy the art and not just screenshots from the Rudy video.
Why would you EVER be disappointed at that!!!!? It gives content creators a chance to reveal it! You lost me on this comment. Makes no sense at all.
@@chesterfieldthe3rd929 I should clarify, I meant that I was disappointed that EC let Rudy reveal the lower pack count rather than just stating it or having the information available when preorders started.
Feel like a bait and switch to me! Pre-order price was the same for beta as it is for Arthurian and you get 12 packs less.
If you are talking about Team Covenant according to people who have spoken with them, they are also lowering their prices to the MSRP at $129, so there shouldn't be any downsides to having pre-ordered with them.
No it isn't. ARE you freaking serious?
Again, I am unsure if you are talking to us, but the price for AL has been adjusted on their website: www.teamcovenant.com/games/sorcery-tcg/arthurian-legends
@@CardboardGuide ikr❤️
yeah
