When I first watched this scene I was 75% sure that Jesse didn't die. Now I'm almost mositive. The gun made a soft slicking sound, which probably meant it didn't fire, plus, it's very hard to hit a moving target. Thanks for uploading! :D
Well, sadly, as you probably found out, not even a petition would have worked. The company that co-produced the show lost the rights to the "Terminator" franchise. They couldn't have continued even if they wanted to. Someone should have picked up the torch, though. It would've been interesting to see what happened.
