***** - You are confused. For clay to last a long time, it must be fired and set aside in a safe place. When people used to build on top of the debris of previous cities, that was a way of guaranteeing that such items would last. Mostly what archeologists find, however, are not whole items but shards or pieces of pottery. Items that were saved and traded or kept in private collections have obviously helped their survival. Where did you read that there are clay pots from ten thousand years ago? I would be interested to see that.
***** - In other words, you do not have a link to pottery that was discovered ten thousand years ago. That is what I thought. Most pottery that has been found here in Israel is from prehistoric eras but I do not think any one claims to have found something quite that old. Fossil records could be significantly older than ten thousand years old, but they are not man made items. As a student of cultural anthropology, man made items interest me more. Enjoy the earth and its people.
This gave me a travel / adventure idea. I wanna go traveling and everywhere I visit I wanna take jars of dirt and turn them into balls like this and put them in a case so I can have the memories of where ive been.
Ernő Bakk since your obviously a million years old and don't know how to use the internet, a malteser is a British confectionary consisting of malted milk surrounded by chocolate. The American equivalent is Whoppers.
I made these "Mudballs" as a kid. Didnt learn it from anyone just out in the backyard playing. Even had dry white sand we used to make them shiny. Being dirt poor we had to entertain ourselves, glad to see it has a name, Hikaru Dorodango.
After watching this, I had an idea. From every place I travel to, I will get a sample of dirt and form a Dorodango out of it as a souvenir. But I don't ever leave my house, so ... done.
Could be used with a few seeds of flowers or whatever in the sphere and once watered, you'd have some flowers/vegetables. _Could be made so one can use in a indoor planter._ Also, one could make these full of wild flower seeds and use them as a 'flower bomb" so to speak. _You know your drive to work you always pass a spot that has weeds or is unsightly, well just toss a seed ball out and wait til it rains!_ lol ~ Cool art though. _Wonder if he coated the final piece(s) in some type of lacquer or something?_ Otherwise, moisture from the air would eventually get in the pores cause these to expand and crack.
They are some what fragile, once the plant grows/expands it will crack and fall apart. Adding water will turn these back into mud. And a proper doro dango is 100% dirt, no artificial coating.
"Wonder if he coated the final piece(s) in some type of lacquer..." True to the Japanese esthetic, the fragility and temporal nature of these objects is part of their beauty.
+Micha EL, an artist can be ANYONE. from ANYWHERE. using any MEDIUM. with any MINDSET. using any TECHNIQUE. art is self is described as the EXPRESSION and creation using human creative skills/ or lack there of for that matter. So yes he can call him self an artist!
Why don't you use dirt from around the globe and sell them as travel pieces? I'd like some balls from antartica, holland etc. Capture their essence in the grains.
This ball of dirt has less flaws then my life
.
*fewer
OmgItsMaxYT fewer* yet another flaw in your life...

OmgItsMaxYT I feel the same way
Imagine 1000 years from now they find his dirtballs and wonder what the fuck we people did with these things in 2016
Best comment i've seen in a while.
+ceeshat - They will not last 1000 years into the future - they are only dried mud clay, like mud bricks.

***** Fossils are not man made. We are discussing man made pottery here.

I used to make spheres out of sand when I was in 4th grade
Then tossing them and seeing them get smashed into thousand granules was oddly satisfying
This gave me a travel / adventure idea.

That's what that dude from saving private ryan was doing.
@@johnnymcblaze wait so the idea isn't original? Oof i was thinking it was great
Watched a video where someone did that
@@pedroclaro7822 if the idea is not original, it doesn't mean that it's automatically a bad idea
persistence can turn even mud and dirt into something beautiful, what does that say about us?
we're worse than dirt? lmao
Even Chris over here can turn be something nice, even Chris...
That some people have too much time on their hands
Well anyone if they are determined enough can be a success. It's just everyone is too lazy :/ well less powerful people the better :)
that we aren't mud and dirt
It's pretty cool, an artist needs support in this Times.

I made one while I was pregnant with my son. Still have it, it was a good craft to do to keep stress down and stay off my feet.
this guy needs to have a youtube channel
Reminds me of polishing aluminum foil balls
Mythbusters did it with poo :D
Cool.
+Frederic Vandeputte dirt secretly is poop
+Frederic Vandeputte ^^^
Frederic Vandeputte came here just to see if there was a mythbusters comment lol
Frederic Vandeputte dude gojira is life
I would actually spend a good deal of time trying to make one of those too. This is going on my bucket list.
Some of those mud balls looked really good
Eragon fan much?
i think exact this :)
the ancient knurlan art...
Mythbusters did a great episode on this. " Can you polish a turd"?
That's what Orik does in Eragon's last book, it's called "Erôthknurl" there. :D
Better than the aluminium ball
After watching this, I had an idea. From every place I travel to, I will get a sample of dirt and form a Dorodango out of it as a souvenir.
But I don't ever leave my house, so ... done.
The mud balls look like planets
He should make a model of Mars like that.
This immediately reminded me of Orik's Erôthknurl (thardsvergûndnzmal) from the Inheritance cycle
i loved that series!
This is actually why I looked this up!
It's weird but looks cool and calm and makes me want to try to make one
Wow! Very fascinating !
thumbs up to the kitchen scale 👍👍
Shining mud dumplings?... A intriguing thing
A student essay is the equivalent of a polished ball of dirt

J tet I believe that's the point, you'd have soil and seeds in one ball to package

@Maui Randall: Apparently someone called "Micha EL" did... But our friend Ro Gal here probably missed the "reply"-button.
Dorodango
AWESOME!
They look amazing !
How do those textures form?? Especially that grey one, with the very large lumps on it, almost like those cartoon meteorites.
bro be making blender pbr balls
Extremely cool.
Dorodango pokeballs would make a lot of money.
The one at 1:20 looks coooool
Intriguing and cool.
That's amazing
Hikaru dorodango does not mean shiny dumpling, it means shiny dirt ball
This is where those polished foil balls came from.
Guys this is an Erothknurl from the Eragon books
What the hell is his job that he can sit there and fuck with dirt all day.
selling the dirt....
lol for real
+Nathan Trone you know people can work a job and have hobbies on the side right.....
Anyone else first hear about this from The Inheritance Cycle (Eragon book series)?
Reporter: What do you do?
Him: I make dirt balls
Amazing
Art
Remember when this used to be a thing?
Mythbusters used that technique to see if you can polish a turd. Myth confirmed, but it still smelled like a turd
At 0:42 my rhinitis attacked and I sneezed hard. I felt the dust in my nostrils
Lol the original shiny aluminum ball😂
Came from Buzzfeed
This makes me crave chocolate
this is cool
Far cooler than that new aluminium foil ball nonsense
This is meeeeeeee!
From dirt to aluminum foil
i'll be polishing me nuts if they come that shiney
Dorodango sounds like something Dr. Steve Brule would say
they look delicious
First shiny foil balls and now shiny mud balls? What will happen next
You seriously think this came after foil balls?
joshua clarke poo balls there shiny the mythbusters did ot
92sieghart i heard about foil balls first...
This is an ancient art form I’m pretty sure
Shiny diamond balls I think it will be really cool than 😉😎
Twitter brought me here
Is it possible to make it waterproof?
When someone says something positive about your life: "I just polished a ball of dirt"
Dorodango means "mud dumpling," not "shiny dumpling"
I guess he meant “Hikaru”
this seems to be interesting, is this a documentation? where can I watch this?
Tsubaki would be proud
shiny aluminum ball before it was cool
This man is making Dragon balls for Goku
This predates the super polished aluminium foil balls
So do these harden over time? Or do they stay soft or even become crumbly and or brittle
thinking about ancient stone decoration if its a mud gone rock over a period of time.
The 198 ( at the time I’m watching) who disliked it probably tired it and failed
Yooooo this is in Albuquerque. I live in Albuquerque!!
Bokura wa Minna Kawaisou taught me this haha!
Saw this on mythbusters a while back.
woahhh *mindblown

Me and my sister used to make these and throw them at things before they were on UA-cam
This should be called, D.I.Y. moab sandball
People you can make houses this way!
The forbidden Maltesers
How does it get shiny?
These balls of dirt look like planets
I would like to see someone combine this with a bonsai tree, with the tree planted in the dirt ball.
I want a Dorodango
A ball is prettier than me.
Where’s the tin foil
Japan went from the dirt age to the aluminum age in 2018
That guy has more balls then I do
wonder if you can use sand
