  • In this video, Joe from Alarm Grid explains how the Honeywell Home 6290W can be used with a Honeywell VISTA Security System. The Honeywell Home 6290W is a wired touchscreen keypad designed exclusively for use with Honeywell VISTA Panels. The keypad uses a 4-wire connection to connect with the panel.
A Honeywell VISTA System is a hardwired panel that is usually hidden away in a storage area, like a closet, attic, garage, or basement. In order to control the system, you need a keypad. Push-button keypads are traditionally used with these systems, and they are still very popular today. But adding a touchscreen keypad like the Honeywell Home 6290W can make it easier for new users to control and operate the system. The Honeywell 6290W has full-color menus that are intuitive and more inviting than an old-school push-button keypad.
But just because you get a touchscreen keypad like a Honeywell Home 6290W doesn't mean you should toss your existing push-button keypad. While a touchscreen keypad can perform nearly every system function that a push-button keypad can perform, there is one important function that can only be performed by a push-button keypad. You need a push-button keypad if you ever get locked out of programming and need to get back in using the backdoor method. A touchscreen keypad like the Honeywell Home 6290W cannot be used in this manner, as it will not boot-up fast enough when the system is powered on. Additionally, you may want to keep your old push-button keypad in a separate location of the building for arming and disarming.
Getting started with the Honeywell Home 6290W is very easy. The keypad will connect with the panel using the same 4-wire connection that a push button keypad would use. Make sure to power down the system before connecting the new keypad. You will then need to address the keypad by assigning it to one of the open AUI slots. You should use a push-button keypad to enable an unused AUI device slot, if necessary. This is done through programming field *189. Then you can use the 6290W to choose the ECP address that you enabled using the push-button keypad. You will then be able to use your new 6290W Keypad with your system.

I own a honeywell 6148 keypad system, is it possible to replace my current for the 6290w?

After the 6290 has been added to a system - can any programming(e.g. zone programming) be done through it? Or does it need to be done with a 6160 still?

Personally, we always recommend a 6160 for programming on any panel. Even if you just mount it to the front of the metal enclosure and don't use it for anything else. You can get to console mode on the 6290W, and when in this mode, it emulates a 6160, but it can be a bit sluggish to respond while in programming, especially the menu-driven things like zone programming. To get to Console Mode, click the ... (More Choices) option from the Home Screen, then click the icon that looks like a keypad.

I bought several of these from youg uys directly and I'm just getting around to programming/setting up system before client moves in. They have 5 on a job (we will be contacting you tomorrow or Saturday to schedule monitoring)...
On a vista 128bpt, how do I open up other channels so I can add the 3 additional keypads?

Hello, On commercial panels you have to tell the panel what device you are using for each device address. This is referred to as device programming in the *93 menu. Please check out this video and article. www.alarmgrid.com/faq/how-do-i-install-the-honeywell-home-6290w

If you like the 6290W’s looks but want a new system, look at the IQ Panel 2 that is behind Joe showing pictures almost the entire time.
If you have Honeywell sensors, they will work with the IQ Panel as long as you purchase the correct kit.

Good eye, I agree that the IQ2 panel is pretty great. Here is a link to the correct kit for anyone who was curious ;) www.alarmgrid.com/products/qolsys-iq-panel-2-plus-att-powerg-345mhz

Can I replace my existing 6270 with a 6290 by just hooking up the 4 wires to it?

    Does the 6290 work with Vista-20P (version 10.23) ?

@Gary I have connected a 6290 to Vista-20P, is there any reason the keypad response seems slow ? Compare to use the 6160.

Will it replace a 6280ZW and work the same way as the 6280ZW?

    • @freddaniels8259
      @freddaniels8259 2 роки тому

Hello the 6280 didn't have zwave, if it had zwave it was a Tuxedo of some sort. The 6290W is the replacement for the 6280W.If you need zwave you want the Tuxedo.

I cannot figure out how to remove the partition button from the 6290W? All my zones are in partition 1, but it still shows zones like 99, and then 1XX zones for the devices on all partitions?

Hey James, I am making an assumption that your panel is a Vista-20p and unfortunately that button will always be available due to the 2nd and common lobby partition being enabled all the time.

    • @jamesrusso6739

@@DKAlarmgridSupport yes, it is vista 20p. The second and third partitions show just the 1XX zones, zone 99 and then also zone 1 (fire).
I assumed that if no zones setup for P2,P3 it wouldn’t show up, but I guess I was wrong.
