This looks awesome for working on flex cables, those really can't take a whole lot of thermal load nor a lot of friction.

just wondering if it would be a good idea to desolder any smd caps/resistors using this hot tweezer+braid/wick to suck up the solders? could u make a video showing if it works ? it would be very interesting for use in very tightly spaced components because hot air usually blow away nearby components.

Thermal dynamics for soldering explained and demonstrated very well here for those studying soldering techniques. A high end soldering station has to be used to replicate this demonstration. Soldering 0102 using fluid dynamics is totally fascinating, check it out. Great video, others shall find this useful. A BIG 👍 from me.

That explains why it is good to pre heat the pcb. That way, the soldering station wouldn't need to compensate so much

I’m a rank amateur and have a cheap set of tweezers but I can desolder with them using wick and the biggest set of tips. However, it’s definitely a case where "Flux is your friend."

Holy crapI Initially I was confused ... like, _Where the hell's the TIP !?? What's the wick getting the heat from??_
Until he explicitly said he's only holding the WICK with the tweezers ... and seriously, wow.

You can buy cheap hot tweezers on ali, ebay etc., and maybe use with a decent solder station clone if your model needs connecting to a solder station. Those cheap knockoff hot tweezers are not super precise and finely controlled tools, but that is perfectly ok because we're not using them for (de)soldering SMD components here. We're not even touching the board directly with the tweezers we are just heating up solder wick while having a gentle and controllable grip on it. Just remember to use additional flux. The flux inside the wick will burn off very quickly when gripping it with the tweezers, probably before you even have time to touch the wick to the PCB pads.
