that might be because the BD45 lacks Profile 2.0 (no lan socket) - if you can locate its bigger brother the BD65, this is the SAME unit but has ethernet socket on the rear. Also you can get 'enhanced firmware' for which does the following:- -makes unit region free on both sides -disabled the prohibit mechanism (so you can actually skip the warning messages and such which usually you can't) -unlocks all the extras the BD85 has (they're in the 65 but disabled) -disables a certain watermark that appears on some discs.
I have the BD-60 and have similar issues. It plays all DVD's, some blu-ray discs work, some won't read at all, and some will play but half way through will start skipping around and freeze up. Its very frustrating. I've tried to update the firmware with no positive result. I've been looking into a new player, 4k next because I'm done with panasonic players.
I have a question, I have downloaded the firmware file and extracted it and burned it to a cd-r, and the file size was accurate as well, but when the Panasonic dmp-bd70v reads it, it will say e disc instead of updating, which I’m guessing means error disc. Why?
I'm not sure to be honest...it's been a long time since I first did it, but I do remember I had to burn it to disc 3 times for it to eventually read it. May just be the discs your using.
@@TheRetroStuffGuy Actually I ended up going to my friends’ house to use ethernet for the firmware update, since my router does not have LAN. The updated firmware made the player noticeably better. Thanks, though.

I found that if you put in a DVD and get to the movie menu, then eject the DVD, insert the Blue Ray disk that didn’t work, it now plays….

Can you not install via lan socket and internet?
I no longer have this unit, but from memory I don't believe this particular model had a LAN slot. I have seen them on other variations.
Why don’t you remove this video? It states the obvious and didn’t fix the issue.
