The song is in Hebrew, lyrics from the Book of Psalms
    Transliteration and translation as follows
    Be Tseet Israel me Mizraim
    Beit Yaakov me Am Loez
When Israel came out of Egypt
The House of Jacob from among a people of a foreign tongue
    He harim rakedu ke eilim
    Gevaot ke bnei tson
The mountains would dance like rams
    The hills like small lambs
Ma lecha ha yam ki tanus
    Ha Yarden tisov le ahor
Why have you fled, oh sea?
Why has the river Jordan turned back on it's course
    Ve haita Yehuda le kodsho
    Israel memshelotav
And Judea was his holy refuge
    And Israel his dominion
Ha hofchi ha zur agam mayim
    Halamish le maayn mayim
Flint stone has been made into a lake of water
And the fire stone to a living spring
There is probably a more accurate translation, i'm not a religious man or a bible expert. It's all just of the top of my head. Amazing verses rendered into amazing music

The instrument played by ravid is a small version of the real instrument played by gnawa who are the slaves brought to Morocco from guinea Mali and Senegal.and probably was invented in Morocco by those slaves cuz we don’t find this instrument in those countries

    • @MacrobianNomad
      @MacrobianNomad 4 роки тому +10

You are correct, apart from the Guinea, Mali and Senegal part. Gnawi (or el-Kanawi in standard non-Maghrebi Arabic) is what those from Kano in modern day Northern Nigeria were called. This was the capital of the Hausa-Fulani empire, which had very close historical ties to the Moroccan Kingdom as well as a massive, religious (Malakite Muslim tradition), cultural (including Sufism influencing Gnawa music) and trade (look up origins of 'Moroccan Leather') exchange, thus making the Gnawa people not settled slaves either.

    • @anassus
      @anassus 4 роки тому +5

It is indeed a small version of the "hajhooj" ! the instrument described in this video.. since the style is the same I would think that the inspiration came from gnawa music (for the bass at least). Please people who read this comment, from other countries and other cultures, what do you think about these pentatonic melodies that we find everywhere in the world, why are they so similar ? if you have traditional music that sound the same, please share !

The guembri is a three-stringed bass instrument that originated in Algeria & Morocco and is commonly used in traditional Gnawa music. It is made from a hollowed-out log, usually from the tree called "thuja," and is covered with camel skin. The instrument is played with the fingers or with a plectrum and is often used to accompany Gnawa songs and rituals.
In addition to its musical significance, the guembri is also considered a spiritual instrument in Gnawa culture, with some practitioners believing that it possesses mystical powers that can be used to heal the sick and protect against evil spirits. The instrument is often played by Gnawa musicians during trance-like performances that are intended to bring about spiritual healing and enlightenment.
Overall, the guembri plays a central role in Gnawa music and culture and is a unique and important instrument in the musical landscape of Algeria & Morocco and the wider North African region.

What a Great Performance, a high-Voltage Vibe and a Madness Swing.. I Just love it...However, the Gnawa is unfortunately Moroccan and the music you are playing is original coming from the real Old Amazighi Music (not really berber) and because of the mixture of amazighi with africans, you see born the Sahel region, ranging from South of Morocco-algeria-Tunesia, Mali, Nigeria, Somalia, Sudan, Etheria...etc...Thank you for the sharing...
