I love hens. I don't know why the rest of the world doesn't seem to care about chickens. They are beautiful, sweet, sensitive animals and deserve better than factory farming and battery cages. Your birds are lovely.
when Igot some chickens I inadvertedly got two cornish crosses, (did not know what they were at the time)and four astralorps, all same ages, by the 10 week they cornish crosses were four times bigger than my astralorps. I was amazed at the growth rate. no sterioids not gmo, just crossbreeding got this bird, well I was getting attached to them but I notice they couldnt get around much and were bullying my four astralorps. one seemd to not be able to handle the heat, well I decided due to their big size, summer coming on, they could hardly walk and their life spans before having heart attacks and broken legs was 14 weeks, so I and hubby who had experience with killing chickens killed them and we put the inthe freezer. I had no desire to do this, but no one would take them except a amish farm more than a hour away, I felt bad they were strictly to be pets. I tried the humane society too, so they would of had to kill them too, no way around it, so now I am being extra careful what chickens I buy. at least the meat will repay me the expense of how much they ate, they were literally eating like they were starving all the timeI put them on pasture, they ate grasses and treats I gave them fruit, etc. seems like chickens are all you can eat foodies.
Adorable hens!!!! I just adopted a white one today. She's still kind of scared, but I'm petting her and giving her lots of love. I hope soon she'll lose her fear and will jump on my shoulder just like yours do! Thanks for being an angel to your feathered babies!

Wonderful video. I have 8 n 1 took sick so I brought her in the house n set up a roost next to our bed so I could monitor her thru night. Poor thing was too weak to walk far but made her way out of box n onto bed n would lay between my wife n I all night. She didn't eat for 4 days so she didn't poop either. Every night I put her in box n every night she ended up btwn us just like a spoiled dog. By day 5 anti biotics she started eating n pooping again so out she went. Hens r Great pets.
I agree. If you got to know them, they are sweet, docile little things that love to be pet and cuddled. I feed them tasty treats such as cheerios and tomatoes. I raise four and I love them to pieces.
They are great! This video reminds me the picture when a hen sat on my father's head while my father was reading newspaper. When you treat them well, they would reward you.

But They were great to raise super friendly would recommend them to anyone who wanted them as companion pets. Your 2 girls are great looking!
The sound of contented free-range hens is very soothing to listen to, as a boy I used to dig over parts of the ground were the hens were kept and they would follow me in a crowd after the worms and grubs.

I had a pet barred rock who single handedly obliterated the ticks in our yard... as well as the tomatoes. She too had a habit of coming to the door, but not to come in; she knew she got dibs on surplus noodles.

For the person beloww who didnt know what to feed i have raised chickens from incubator on up besides thier normal scratch feed and cracked corn from feedstore mine love cornbread 25cent ramen noodles cooked cooled chopped up a little watermellon bananas human table scraps chopped up nothing too salty or spicy
How much noise can you expect from 2 hens? If I were to get 2 Hens and make them a coop in my small backyard, do you think they would pester the neighbors with noises? The coop would probably be about 40 feet from their house.

yeah mine will only eat tomatos and cooked corn cobs besides their pellet mix. Not sure what else to try them on.. I just cant get them tame yet! they're 5 months olds..
@lucozaderable yeah I have them at my second house, where I was living before but now I go there on holiday. It's on countryside where my grandma lives. When I'm there I always feed them and by that, they become more friendly and trustful if you treat them right :). I think that's what makes them special :)
