If you love them right, and raise them right, chickens are usually super nice! Some don’t like being held or pet, but that just depends on the chicken’s personality. You know they love you, or at least recognize you as the caretaker if they follow you around.
This is why “45 minute” chicken chores take me THREE HOURS. They each want attention, after I feed and play with them they still follow me around and try to trip me. @@anon9033 It's because the chickens are left in the open in the morning, right? You should house them in a pen, also called a coop, with minimal light. Of course a pen should be big enough to walk in to get eggs and is insulated against the elements, especially the cold, by lining it with sound deadening material such as 2 inch thick polystyrene. It helps keep the temperature constant in all season. The pen floor should always be one and half/two feet above ground to limit the risk of foxes and other predators from breaking in. If you're in an area without foxes you should still build this type of pen for the purpose of allowing under the floor ventilation and keep vermin such as rats at bay. It has to be big enough for you to walk in to collect eggs and clean the inside. A 3 by 3 cubic meters is minimum for 10 chickens, 4 by 4 meters for 20 chickens, etc. The nesting boxes should be placed 2-3 feet high inside the pen and or chest level if you're standing outside to be able to lift a small hatch or door from outside to collect the eggs. Each hatch or door should be directly behind each egg laying nest. I prefer doors that are 12 by 12 but 10 by 10 would also do. It's best if each door lifts/swings upward when opened to collect the eggs because when you lift the doors the polystyrene panel glued on the doors also comes out with it. The doors can be left open in summer for airing the pen. Or, you can simply skip this process of adding these snall hatches if the climate is harsh. Less openings means less wind draft comes in. Inside the pen place non slippery horizontal timber poles for the bird to roost high off the floor about 3 feet and 2 feet apart so that they roost in groups. The birds often press themselves close together during cold nights. The reason why these poles have too be definitely horizontal is for the benefit of the birds getting a sound sleep without getting leg cramp from trying to stay upright while asleep. Leg cramps usually make the bird change position and orientation to relieve or ease leg muscle tiredness or cramp. You need to watch the birds with a camera at night to see the difference on their behaviour in getting a good sleep or constantly turning and tossing in circles. Also, wood pens are good and natural but, all birds, including chicken are subjected to live infestation, especially red lice in chicken. These lice, if not treated properly, will infest the entire pen and turning it red with millions of them within a week. The live in and around wood cracks and fissures. Treatment with a proven chemical liquid spray should be done at first sight of the infestation noticed on the chicken that seem to be preening and picking their feathers in discomfort. Sheet metal pens cannot hold an infestation long because in summer, the sun bakes the metal pen and cooks whatever lice clink on it, thus they stay away from very hot area while the chickens are strutting their stuff in the open yard. Spraying the entire metal pen should do the trick. As for the lice already on the chicken, make sure they have an earth bath of sand, soft soil and wood ash blended it. To keep the bath dry in winter, place a roof above it wider than the bath so that angled rain water does not wet the bath. This is for winter when chickens still want an occasional bath. @@trudysmith1503 It isn't just about babying them, you have to spend a lot of time with them (4-8 hours of just pure cuddle and hangout time a day) and you can't be afraid to use punishment, like give her a bop on the beak if she atatcks (not play attacks, but like aggressive attacks), or grab her feet and hold them in place on the ground if she is clawing out you aggressively. Let her eat treats out of your hand, that helps a lot too.
The video was posted 6 years ago. I hope your chickens are still blessed with you. You are such a kind and loving young lady. And your chickens are cute ❤ Well done 👍
Thank you so much! We still have chickens, though all from this video have passed away. Tillie, our brown Ameraucana, died last spring at 10 years old. I now have a rooster who's an indoor pet
I have two pet chicken buds. They are so sweet. They love attention and snuggles. If I don’t spend enough time with them they knock on the back door and I let them in for awhile for snuggles. They come right in and sit on my lap. I feed them good food and built them a heated high rise coop that they love. If they get scared they come and knock on the door. Their names are chickpea and cilantro.
Wow! Loved this video so much! You have such a strong bond with them, they must trust you a lot! As you said in your description, many owners' chickens see them as pets. It was so nice to see someone love them like family!
This is adorable!. Thanks for sharing! It makes me go down memory lane when I was a young girl and all the chickens at my grandparents' barn were my pets. And they all had names, too :)
This reminds me. My mom is a vet and a few years ago a woman brought in one of her pet show hens, Gladys, because a dog had attacked her and she needed her bum stitched back together. She was AWESOME and so tame and quite pretty and such! :D
I have 3 chicken and I have no idea, why, but every time, I'm going out to sit on my chair, they jump behind me and all of them start grooming. Every single time they see me, they start grooming, so funny, i love them :)

earlysda either way I'm a muslim so I don't believe that any human being no matter how pure of soul could ever be compared to The Creator. it doesn't get any more blasphemous than that, and any individual that feels the need to equate any living creature that has ever walked this earth to The Most High must have very little faith indeed or blind faith which is worse and more dangerous than having none at all. not even anything our minds can conjure up can even be remotely worthy of His image. are you so insecure that you need to convince yourself that tangible proof of flesh and blood is the only way you are able to believe in God? that's weak.
THANKYOU for making your videos of the LOVE BETWEEN YOU AND THE FIVE BEAUTIES! It gives people something to learn AND it makes people like myself SMILE for awhile!! 💜
Adorable! I agree, chickens are THE best pets, I have 2 Orpingtons (Phoebe and Piper), a Black Rock (Cara) and a Bluebellle (Tilda), they are all super tame like yours and I love them!
How wonderful. I have 10 pet hens & a rooster of which I adore all of them. I get and receive so much joy from my chickens. They live a bless life and they are my pets. Also I and my twin sister became vegetarian when we were 14 years old and in January 2020 we'll be 61. Chickens provide so much love, thanks for sharing.
I remember my very first clutch of 8 and they were the best pets I’ve ever had. Taught me a lot about life and gave me a chance to enter animals into a fair. Some of the best creatures to have ❤️
Love your video, so awesome to see them on grass enjoying life instead of being locked in a small cage all it’s life. Absolutely a treat to watch, thank you so much for loving those chickens, your special 😊
I had a neighbor once who had chickens all kinds of chickens... But she let them roam around the yard like you do... However one by one the hawk got them all eventually... That was the saddest that could happen... They were caged at night somehow the raccoons got in I won't tell you the rest of that story... And you have chickens you really need to have them sheltered... Yes it is nice to let them roam but you need to keep good watch of them if they roam... Thank you for sharing you're just wonderful and loving to your animals God bless you
Awww, such a cute video! I can tell that you love your chickens very much and also that you spend a lot of time with them. They really do make nice pets. I had two pet chickens when I was a kid, even before I had pet cats. One was a white leghorn rooster named Tilly (yeah, funny name for a male, huh), who had really long spurs on his legs. My mom was afraid that he'd jab me with them, but he never hurt me. I even let him stand on top of my head, and I think I still have a picture somewhere of that. I don't know what kind my pet Biddy (hen) was, but she was a pretty tan color with her feathers outlined in white, very pretty. They both let me carry them all over the place in my grandparents' yard for years. It looks like you get as much enjoyment from your chickens as I did from mine. Thank you for posting this video; it brought back a lot of good memories. I can tell that you're a very sweet person.
I raised 5 pet chickens with my aunt a couple years ago, and despite giving the same attention to all of them, only 2 of them ended up taking to us... but one of them was hilarious and social. I'm impressed that you seem to have gained the trust of all of them. Unfortunately, as poultry seem to do, 3 of the chickens died randomly, and the final 2 were attacked by a roaming coyote :(
KimbayesStephenno95 There seem to be numerous diseases chickens are susceptible to, which show no obvious symptoms, that just take them overnight. There's really just nothing one can do to prevent it, besides isolating them in an indoor environment.
Awwww how sweet!! Love that your so affectionate to them. Theres not alot of people like you anymore so thats so cool to see how loving you are to them. Ive had chickens my whole life just as pets and they really are awesome pets they can be very affectionate animals. Your an awesome person!
About the chickens hopping on your back, my mom (who grew up on a farm) told me that chicks like to hop on their mom's back. So maybe they think of you are their mom.
Adorable girl and chickens. Such a great example of being kind. The world would be better if we could clone her and spread the kindness. Chickens are soooo cute.
This brings me back to my childhood when I used to have 3 pet chickens, they came running when I sing them a certain song. they are all white and I used my mom's food colouring to colour their feather. :)
I used to clean and shower them because sometimes they sit on their own poo and stains on the bottom, (I live in the tropics weather is always hot around 30C most times), then I just pour food colouring mixed with water on them while their feather is still wet. If you do this when they are dry, colour liquid won't even get into the feather.
I had a chicken pet. He (I believe was a "he") accidentally fell from a chicket truck! So I addopted him (He was lucky enough to scape!! I couldn't let him die). He lived only 1 year, had a heart attack because of his previous feeding with hormones. Your pets are sooo lucky :)
If he was a heavy cornish cross breed he died of heart attack because of genetics. Their hearts never keep up with the big bodies. 2 year life span usualy.
The Ameracauna, Tillie, is really reminding me of a hen I had a few months ago, named Caramel. She looked exactly the same, did the same cuddle thing (always coming for a hug), was extremely friendly, and I got her from someone else who found her in a garage and thought she was mine (I was apparently famous for raising chickens in the neighborhood, even though they're not exactly allowed in the part of Arizona where I live). Extremely odd.
They all look so happy and friendly :) I used to have 7 and I miss them a lot. Hawk was my favorite, she'd let me carry her around under my arm like a Chihuahua and she would tear down the driveway to come meet me when I got back from work.
That's so sweet. You're very good with your chickens. I have a rescue rooster that's almost two, and he always demands me to pick the clumped dirt off of his beak. He'll hold his head still, and when I'm done he'll just walk around me clucking, lol. His name's Gallus.
I felt more relaxed when you said you are vegetarian...that means they are your lovely pets and friends..keep spreading this message of pure kinda love..bless you..
Yes , I love chickens . Two reasons, they are loving . They literally run to you when you get home and do a little dance . They can sleep upside down on your hand , and most importantly chase people they don’t like , and attack them. It’s sooo funny watching your wife run across the window because the chicken is chasing her . LoL 😂
You're awesome. They remind me of cats with their independence but also with the desire to be affectionate. I would love to have little chicken friends someday. :)
My grandson has always wanted a chicken baby to raise and love basically and I worried if the chick would return his affections. This video is a fabulous reminder that animals respond to love and kindness! Does anyone remember the autistic boy about 5 who bonded with 2 chickens! It was amazing because they helped him!
Why wouldn't I adore watching this animal shows .I tell you why . When i was a little girl I was race with farm animals ,i am very old but still feel them surround me .believe me animals are smart according to the species they are and also, they individually understand your command. I also want to thank you for being so gentle with animals they know and sense the respect, the tenderness, and the understanding that you have, and generate from within .thank you again and God will always bless you.
Oh, please please, take this advice. Those trees you have as a barrier won't work against foxes and raccoons. I learned that the hard way. My baby Plymouth Rock was ripped apart one day. I got so angry. Your babies look beautiful. Best of luck! :D
+Russian Kid I already have taken your advice! Haha, there's a fence all the way around our yard behind the trees. Though that doesn't stop the raccoons/opossums. Unfortunately, they still get into our yard at night. Thankfully, none of our girls have been lost due to the predators, though one was brutally attacked.
+5hensandahowardbird well, that's nice to hear. I have about 50 of these little ones, with 7 roosters, so it's a handful. I'm attached to all of them, and they are like my best friends. Hawks and the neighbors dogs are the only threats to my babies, but their are coyotes, opposums, and even some Black bears where I live in, yet we have never had to chase one out of the yard. I am only 12 years old, too, so it doesn't make it any easier when I see a chicken I was holding and kissing the day before ripped apart on the ground because a hawk got it when I was in school.
having seen fishes showing emotions like love,i'm trying to be open minded here. help me out. do chickens really have emotions like attachement, love ect or do they just rush at you because they expect food?
+Chris Samba I rescued a bantam hen once....and the following morning it snuck into the house and waited outside my bedroom door (even though food was right next to where I left it). I can't speak for all animals here, but in my case the chicken I had was very emotional and communicative.
+Chris Samba It's a righteous and difficult path + its hard on the human body since we are omnivores....but I think even cutting back on meat and making sure it was humanely raised would be a start.
Lol i'm kidding but i'm the kind of person who won't eat a type of animal if he's had a friendship with it.i don't eat rabbit cause i had one as a kid.i don't wanna be friends with a chicken or a pig one day because i love to eat them Yeah that part sounds doable
+xristo702 Yes exactly. The factory farms and the way billions of animals are killed every year is such a curse on humanity. Humanely raised. A HUGE scaleback on how much meat we eat, and proper respect of the Earth is in order.

YEEEESsss a fellow chicken dork! They are the most kindest creatures when they are raised correctly.
They are the most tastiest creature
I have a chicken I raised and babied and she’s mean. What’s the correct way?
@jigga jaw a well raised chicken doesn't do that, same as how well raised dogs don't growl or bite or resource guard.
@@5hensandahowardbird do they live like 10 years and up? I think I want to pet one.
You are living my actual dream bless your life and your chickens they are beautiful creatures.
Dnt eat them ever
How Sweet is that!
I definitley like to own one as a pet.
@@mackenzierynebagtong8549, I would raise those Velociraptor Chickens! 🐔🐓🐣🐤🐥🦖
*I love all your pet chickens!*
What a sweet girl💖 Your lil chickens are very cute💖
LOL Those have to be some of the tamest chickens I've seen. They don't even kick their feet when you pick them up.
OpiateX their just like any other animal. if you treat them kind, youll gain their trust.
Hahaha I did not think that the chickens could be so affectionate, they are really cute!
Wow! Loved this video so much! You have such a strong bond with them, they must trust you a lot! As you said in your description, many owners' chickens see them as pets. It was so nice to see someone love them like family!
Imagine this kind young lady as a mom...such love and tenderness.
It's like the inside of your sweater is a safe haven for them 😭😭

You know, chickens.
I have 3 chicken and I have no idea, why, but every time, I'm going out to sit on my chair, they jump behind me and all of them start grooming. Every single time they see me, they start grooming, so funny, i love them :)
You are darling. Love the chickens! They're so cute they don't like the rain lol.
I'm a vegetarian and suffice to say, I love to see chickens being loved

Me too
You and your very special, beautiful friends are so loving and unique! !! Take good care cause they are precious, a job well done on raising loving pets!!!
Basically you have a pet dinosaur
smukase Chickens are chickens. They have nothing to do with dinosaurs, except that they were all created by Jesus Christ around 6,000 years ago.
earlysda obvious troll is obvious :)
smukase Thank you for the warning.
earlysda either way I'm a muslim so I don't believe that any human being no matter how pure of soul could ever be compared to The Creator. it doesn't get any more blasphemous than that, and any individual that feels the need to equate any living creature that has ever walked this earth to The Most High must have very little faith indeed or blind faith which is worse and more dangerous than having none at all. not even anything our minds can conjure up can even be remotely worthy of His image. are you so insecure that you need to convince yourself that tangible proof of flesh and blood is the only way you are able to believe in God? that's weak.
smukase May I pray to Jesus for you?
Cute little lady and beautiful chickens. A very pleasant video to watch.
Cute girl,cute chickens,happy Family.God bless.
THIS SHOWS THE LOVING SOULS OF HUMAN BEINGS
THANKYOU for making your videos of the LOVE BETWEEN YOU AND THE FIVE BEAUTIES!
It gives people something to learn AND it makes people like myself SMILE for awhile!! 💜
Adorable! I agree, chickens are THE best pets, I have 2 Orpingtons (Phoebe and Piper), a Black Rock (Cara) and a Bluebellle (Tilda), they are all super tame like yours and I love them!
Thanks for sharing this lovely video! Soo much love

I saw a chicken at cedar point and it was just walking around it was so funny and cute, everyone was petting it
I remember my very first clutch of 8 and they were the best pets I’ve ever had. Taught me a lot about life and gave me a chance to enter animals into a fair. Some of the best creatures to have ❤️
Such a beautiful and bright smile!! My little 4 yr old daughter wants chickens. After watching your lovely video I will be telling her Yes.
I wish I had pets like this. They would make me happy...
uploader - thank you for sharing this lovely clip with the rest of us! your chickens are adorable and they look so healthy and happy! :)
Love your video, so awesome to see them on grass enjoying life instead of being locked in a small cage all it’s life. Absolutely a treat to watch, thank you so much for loving those chickens, your special 😊
And the army of angry Modern Day T-Rexes come greet their owner!
They are so cute, I love how the one just loved to snuggle up in your arms lol
I love chickens as a pet their so cute
I raised 5 pet chickens with my aunt a couple years ago, and despite giving the same attention to all of them, only 2 of them ended up taking to us... but one of them was hilarious and social. I'm impressed that you seem to have gained the trust of all of them.
Unfortunately, as poultry seem to do, 3 of the chickens died randomly, and the final 2 were attacked by a roaming coyote :(
Same here, three of my chickens died and one got stolen :(
KimbayesStephenno95 There seem to be numerous diseases chickens are susceptible to, which show no obvious symptoms, that just take them overnight. There's really just nothing one can do to prevent it, besides isolating them in an indoor environment.
+KimbayesStephenno95 I ... ugh I ate your chickens ....I'm sorry
They’re so cute! I love chickens!
Probably. Just as they like to be held close and smothered. Like chicks under the hen.
Cyrus Lupercal Exactly! Or how they like hiding in your hair like under a mother hen or in a nest.
We bought some chicks some time ago and I can confirm that lmao
Awesome girl with awesome chickens 😁💓
true that!
I’m getting my chickens in the spring, I’m soooo excited!
Sweetie, your chickens are so adorable. Perhaps you don't know how cute a adorable you too are!😊.
I had pet chickens & they were super cute. Loved them

It's actually a golf ball, haha!
That's so cute,I love the noises chickens make. Critters are the coolest. God in. His infinite imagination and creativity!
I love when they make their little trilling sounds! My chickens are adorable. ❤️
Adorable girl and chickens. Such a great example of being kind. The world would be better if we could clone her and spread the kindness.
Chickens are soooo cute.
I find it very sweet of you to keep them as pets ❤️💜 i wish there were more people like you !
This brings me back to my childhood when I used to have 3 pet chickens, they came running when I sing them a certain song. they are all white and I used my mom's food colouring to colour their feather. :)
you can do that? it didnt hurt them? just wonderin
Wee Peng That's so delightful!! I love that you dyed your chickens when you gave them a bath.
5hensandahowardbird i'm so happy that you gave so much love to your chickens, they all look so healthy and fluffy.
Yeah i think i'm going to LOVE my chicken's!
Jaz M poor thing❤
If he was a heavy cornish cross breed he died of heart attack because of genetics. Their hearts never keep up with the big bodies. 2 year life span usualy.
JZ M How sad, but U gave Him a Good Life, + Freedom. He died Happy. God Bless Ur Sweetness.
Very sweet video! :) Your chickens are awesome!
They all look so happy and friendly :)
I used to have 7 and I miss them a lot.
So cute! 🐓🐓🐓🐓🐓
I felt more relaxed when you said you are vegetarian...that means they are your lovely pets and friends..keep spreading this message of pure kinda love..bless you..
Okay boomer
Yes , I love chickens . Two reasons, they are loving . They literally run to you when you get home and do a little dance . They can sleep upside down on your hand , and most importantly chase people they don’t like , and attack them. It’s sooo funny watching your wife run across the window because the chicken is chasing her . LoL 😂
Chickens are sweeter and smarter than people give them credit for.
You're awesome. They remind me of cats with their independence but also with the desire to be affectionate. I would love to have little chicken friends someday. :)
you really should! they are definately the best pets and you could be saving their lives!
I want a chicken
My grandson has always wanted a chicken baby to raise and love basically and I worried if the chick would return his affections. This video is a fabulous reminder that animals respond to love and kindness! Does anyone remember the autistic boy about 5 who bonded with 2 chickens! It was amazing because they helped him!
Those chicken look delicious......I mean sweet...damn...I mean adorable but in a deliciously sweet way.
lol
@mackjeez, u make me sick u know that? Chickens just like any other animal have feelings, emtions, personality, and a soul thank u very much!
+Battosai Jenkins THE FUCK IS A EMTIONS
Dustin Farmer
what?
dogs are delicious too mmm tasty
Why wouldn't I adore watching this animal shows .I tell you why . When i was a little girl I was race with farm animals ,i am very old but still feel them surround me .believe me animals are smart according to the species they are and also, they individually understand your command. I also want to thank you for being so gentle with animals they know and sense the respect, the tenderness, and the understanding that you have, and generate from within .thank you again and God will always bless you.
Very precious ladies you have. I so enjoy ours and I can see you love yours as well. ❤
Oh, please please, take this advice. Those trees you have as a barrier won't work against foxes and raccoons. I learned that the hard way. My baby Plymouth Rock was ripped apart one day. I got so angry. Your babies look beautiful. Best of luck! :D
I suggest making an actual fence from chicken wire.
+AgitatedChicken I lock them up every night too. We have 2 coops. Nothing bad happens to them at night, knocking on wood.
Too adorable. 😊
Nice smile!
having seen fishes showing emotions like love,i'm trying to be open minded here.
help me out.
do chickens really have emotions like attachement, love ect or do they just rush at you because they expect food?
+Chris Samba
I rescued a bantam hen once....and the following morning it snuck into the house and waited outside my bedroom door (even though food was right next to where I left it).
I can't speak for all animals here, but in my case the chicken I had was very emotional and communicative.
Wow.ok thank you .at this rate i'll end up as a vegeterian omg
+Chris Samba
It's a righteous and difficult path + its hard on the human body since we are omnivores....but I think even cutting back on meat and making sure it was humanely raised would be a start.
Lol i'm kidding but i'm the kind of person who won't eat a type of animal if he's had a friendship with it.i don't eat rabbit cause i had one as a kid.i don't wanna be friends with a chicken or a pig one day because i love to eat them
Yeah that part sounds doable
+xristo702
Yes exactly. The factory farms and the way billions of animals are killed every year is such a curse on humanity. Humanely raised. A HUGE scaleback on how much meat we eat, and proper respect of the Earth is in order.
Wouw, amazingly cool how the chickens are bond to this nice girl !
I love this animals. Chickens are sacred animals indeed.
