Fountain pens are a really cheap, instant high reward hobby. My step father has dumped thousands into stuff like salt water aquariums, racing go-karts, and R/C airplanes. All of which are really cool hobbies, but you need almost a whole house to dedicate to these hobbies, and a bank account to match. Fountain pens, my hobby. @@NightMind0fountain pens are always cheap. My cheapest fountain pen is about 1000 dollars only. It's a bit pricey but I use it only for practising homework from school.

Merry Christmas Teoh! I just got the Duke 209 as my first fountain pen on your recommendation and I have to tell you that It's an awesome pen. I know you find yours slippery, but I find it really comfortable to hold. Mine came with the fude nib and a medium nib, so I have the best of both worlds. Thank you for helping us newbies find the right pen through your experience. Keep it up!
Teoh Yi Chie mine is the silver one, but I used an Iwata chrome plated airbrush for many years as an illustrator, so I think that's why the metal finish on the Duke doesn't bother me. But, like I said, this is my first fountain pen an really have no other one to compare it with. Thanks again for your videos, they are very informative and helpful to us noobs.
Shaffer =6.89 Walmart = Shaffer script. fountain pen ..they also have refill cartilages.I found a quill pen (bird feather ) in my shoe box of pens ... Plus a lot of stick type wooden quill pens . I can certainly see the advantage in being able to use different colors in fountain pens .. Thank you so much for sharing !!!
Out of your video, I have the Lamy Vista, the Ahab, the Platinum Preppy and the Hero/Parker 51 clone with the hooded nib (clearly I have a problem). Sadly, the Ahab has been nothing but trouble; tinkering with it has proven pointless. (My favorite for sketching is the relatively slim Hero/Parker 51 clone, though the Lamy is also wonderful. The Preppy works extremely well and and because it's astonishingly cheap, I wouldn't have to cry if I lost it.) Thanks so much for all your informative videos. The "how-to" videos are interesting, but mostly I like the glimpse of your sketchbooks and paintings. And Merry Christmas.
I have the Noodler "Heart of Darkness" ink which is supposed to be bulletproof, but when sketch with it -- even after letting it dry a day or two -- it still bleeds when I apply a wash. Do you suffer this problem with their plain black ink? I'm about to order some Platinum carbon ink so I can keep using my fountain pens.
@Teoh Yi Chie Yesterday I went and bought a fountain pen! I looked at Cross, Parker and Waterman. For the same price, and for what I think is better build quality, I bought a Waterman, for only 28 Euros including medium nib. I didn't get the converter because I think for traveling it's inconvenient to have to carry the ink bottle too, of course also it can break, etc. I bought some ink cartridges instead. It's a beautiful pen, and it's a Waterman. :) They did not carry Pelikan, so I couldn't look at the m200, and also they did have LAMY and I tried a few of those. They were my second choice. The guy told me nobody is buying fountain pens anymore.
Yeah, thank you for the informative video. I already own a Lady, TWSBI, and an Ahab but I have an unidentified pen that was a gift. All the markings are oriental, my granddaughter translates it to a pen for financials. It has a very fine nib which is hooded and marked much like the Hero you showed, maybe Hero is the manufacturer. Again thank you for your videos.

Another awesome and informative video! Thanks so much, this is going to be very helpful since I'm looking to buy my second fountain pen. Happy Holidays!
This was very helpful thanks! I ended up buying the disposable pen Pilot Varsity is that the same as the VPen? I like it but it seems scratchy compared to the Signo Gelstick (another of your recommendations) that I also purchased.
Great video, wanted to try using fountain pen instead of drafting pen for my artwork and your video has been really helpful in trying to choose a budget one, and explain the difference in the type of nibs and ink cartridges! :)
It is very easily done. A touch of silicon grease on the threads and the body will hold a good volume of ink. I've had no problems with leaking. I like this pen very much.

Hi Teoh! Thanks for the amazing video as always. I have a doubt, is it necessary to buy a converter for pens that come without one? Can't we simply fill up the body using a dropper?
You have to get some rubber O-ring to prevent the ink from leaking. My main concern is ink leaking. Anyway, ink converters aren't expensive. You can find them on eBay at good prices.
When you were using the twsbi pen did it ever leak? I'm thinking of getting the eco but I usually just carry a pen in my jeans pocket and I'm worried if I did so the the twsbi the filling mechanism would turn and cause the ink to leak out.
