Just got the green with the converter and waterproof ink. Did a few Christmas cards today and loved working with it. The thin and thick lines give it such a Painterly look.
In China we call it "美mei工gong笔pen" usually with cheap price,be used for hanzi clligraphy and sketch.I use it a lot, very suit for daily quick sketch and doodle.Nice rare review 😊
9:56 I do not know if the dad joke of "let's do a recap" while showing two re-capped pens was intentional, but I appreciate it. Thank you for your review, I just learned of the existance of this type of nib and your review was very informative, not just showing these two pens, but also how to use this type of nib. Thank you for your work! : )
This review gave me the info to buy a cheapo Sailor fude nib. Got the 55º for $11 on Amazon, and I am very happy with it. I'm taking it and a sketchbook on a trip to Eastern Europe next week. Thanks for the useful, helpful info.
Hi Teoh! thanks for the video. I just received my first one the blue version today. Tomorrow I will fill it and start experimenting with it. Let's see how it goes
Thank You, I always trust your reviews and I truly enjoy watching your videos, even though I don't enjoy drawing buildings, I enjoy watching you draw and I like your style of illustrating people on the street!
I just received a Sailor Fude De Mannen pen. Your review gave me a better understanding of the pen, its function and abilities. Thank you for your very informative video.
Greetings Teoh and thank you for another great video. Regarding the the tip causing a thin unwanted line, could you maybe just cut off a small part of the protruding plastic? I just bought a Sailor fude 55 and am waiting on delivery. Excited to try it out. Thank you. Cheers, Mark
I have both pens and I like the extra little line from the feed. I think you could probably file down that little corner...I love the uneven expressive lines they create. I am using speedball super black in them so I can use with watercolor. I bought a duke 209 and it doesn't work very well. Maybe I will clean is and try again...Thanks for the review..
I bought a Sailor Profit with fude nib because it was interesting. I’m not a sketch artist however so I might find an artist to give it to or sell it cheaply. At high angle it’s a fine or extra fine and low angle very broad just as you demonstrate. I’m trying to relearn to write very nicely again and then learn calligraphy. Fountain pens ✒️ have really grabbed my attention.
Hello, Teoh! Thank you for all your reviews. I’m planning to invest in a few of the products you spoke about and the way you explained, especially the inks as well - made my life much easier. Thank you 😊
Great review - thank you ! Wish I had seen this before purchasing the green pen , as the ink flow keeps cutting out and it is driving me nuts . lol ( I am using it for sketching )Thanks again - at least I know I am not doing anything wrong . Kind regards - Judi - Australia
I got the green one and this is my first fountain pen but I was wondering what happens if I don't use all the ink? And should I clean the ink that gets on the nib?
+Lt. Zeen If you have no intention of using the pen for weeks, you should drain out the ink (or pour back into the ink bottle) and clean the pen thoroughly. You can leave the ink on the nib, that can be easily cleaned.
Thank you for that. I usually use a dip pen or ordinary fineliner. I have bought the green one and the Sailor Profit, (which is shorter), for plein air drawing, after they were recommended to me. I wanted a proper nib pen without the risk of spilling ink in a public place 🙂 but I'm struggling to get thin lines, so have been using them upside-down, which works, but can't be the plan.. Otherwise, the ink flow is too slow for the speed I work at! I may try bending the nib into a new shape...
I tried the Duke 209, but it keeps running out of ink after a while of writing, and I have to turn the knob to force the ink to go down. anyone else have this problem?
Thanks for the review =) Exactly what I needed. I am still considering if I want to test theese or if I will choose a different fountain pen with a fude nib.
Fountain pens from Hero or Duke with fude nibs will be better because the nib is bent smoothly instead of the sharp angled bend you see with this Sailor pen
Hi Teoh! I used the two Sailor Fude De Mannen Fountain Pens for sketching drawings, however I am looking for bent fude nib pens that provide broader lines ideal for big sketches. Are there any pens besides from the Confucious pen which give thicker lines? many thanks!
+Nanda The thickest is from the Confucious pen but the ink flow ain't that good. Perhaps you want to make your own folded dip pen. ua-cam.com/video/CUXNebKnxYQ/v-deo.html
and I suppose a little Korean, Tibetan, Lao/Thai/Khmer, Burmese, Mongolian, Sanskrit.. the world is your oyster. I have recently enjoyed learning Arabic with my sailor pen and I also write in English, French and Welsh. I was learning Mandarin for a while because my brother married a woman from Tianjin, but I just can't stick to any one language!
Hi as a beginner just starting out with urban sketching. Can you please recommend a fountain pen for me. I love your tutorial videos. Greetings from Australia 🇦🇺 😊👍
They call it the Zoom nib. some retailers tailor the nibs, so for example, you can ask for a 1911 in Zoom or a pro gear in zoom instead of Fine, Medium. etc.
I am buying the green pen on Amazon. Does anyone know what number cartridges to purchase? I can't find any info. Will any Sailor cartridge will work. I appreciate any assistance!
What would you say is the best fude nib pen for the price? Ink flow is very important for me so I'd like to get a cheap fude fountain pen with good ink flow if possible
I like the Duke 209. With fude nibs, you do need to draw a bit slower when you want to create thick lines because those use a lot of ink. Check out this video comparison of different fude nibs. ua-cam.com/video/YtN1V8-YnZQ/v-deo.html
You definitely have to use it very INTENTIONALLY. It also depends on how comfortable you already feel with ink/fountain pen and whether you like being surprised by your supply. It’s not as complicated, but it’s not naturally under control
Thank you very much for this very clear and step by step review. Which would you recommend for new comers to sketching. Like which would be more useful for drawing very thin and a bit thicker lines, 40 degree nib?

I have literally been searching for this word in Chinese for nearly a week now. 谢谢!

Hey Teoh! I just got the blue one. I re-set the nib a bit higher so the feed doesn’t drag anymore. Love the pen! Thank you
+geckonia That's great 😀
As always, I enjoy your reviews. I find them very concise and helpful and I thank you for taking the time to explain each review in detail.
+TheDarDar1 Thanks 😁

I always check your reviews before purchasing anything! Thank you!
I do love these pens, bought them both specifically for drawing. They do give a nice variety of lines.
Cool, which would be more useful to use generally to sketch please?
Hi Teoh! thanks for the video. I just received my first one the blue version today. Tomorrow I will fill it and start experimenting with it. Let's see how it goes

Didn't know about them, really nice lines. I will look more into them and see where I can find them in my country.
I got the green one thanks to you. You are my favorite youtuber.
Thanks for this review. Even though it is 3 years old. I learn so kuch from you.
Thank you for this review. Been thinking of getting a nib like this but didn't know enough about them. Thanks to you I now know what to look for.

Filing down the corner is a great suggestion- thanks.
Again, thanks a lot Teoh ,this is what exactly I am looking for!

Very helpful review, Teoh. Thank you. Will get either the 44 deg or 55 deg.

Thanks Teoh for this great review. Love from France, Marjorie
Thanks :-)
THANKYOU for this review!!
These pens are a new interest for me.
And the information you gave us was good!
Great review - thank you ! Wish I had seen this before purchasing the green pen , as the ink flow keeps cutting out and it is driving me nuts . lol ( I am using it for sketching )Thanks again - at least I know I am not doing anything wrong . Kind regards - Judi - Australia
Check out the cheaper Duke 209 fountain pen with Fude nib. It is available on eBay.
I got the green one and this is my first fountain pen but I was wondering what happens if I don't use all the ink? And should I clean the ink that gets on the nib?

Hi Yi Chie, Can it be used as a eyedropper? Thanks

Thanks for the review of the Sailor fude nib pens. It was very informative.
Hi I changed the ink tube but the doesn't go throughout tip please write me what can I do
Just have the pen tip pointing down and wait for a while. Or shake it. Or get a Sailor ink convertor and push the ink out from the front.
Very nice video! What area of the world do you live? It sounds beautiful outside.

Try the Sailor Sript kalligraphi. they cost about € 29,00.
pilot parallel?
Very extensive review, thanks
Thanks ヾ(⌐■_■)ノ♪
Are all nibs interchangeable with different barrels (different companies)?
Different brands are not interchangeable
Are these pens more for drawing or writing? Thanks.
They are meant for Asian calligraphy, but of course you can use them for drawing as well.
Teoh Yi Chie hi! :) Asian calligraphy means? Chinese Japanese words?
and I suppose a little Korean, Tibetan, Lao/Thai/Khmer, Burmese, Mongolian, Sanskrit.. the world is your oyster. Hi as a beginner just starting out with urban sketching. Can you please recommend a fountain pen for me. I love your tutorial videos. Greetings from Australia 🇦🇺 😊👍
Lamy Safari, TWSBI are good.
Thank you very much for your guidance - very much appreciated 🙏
I have both of those. What is the Sailor pen that is top of the line? What pen do you prefer? Thanks.
They call it the Zoom nib. some retailers tailor the nibs, so for example, you can ask for a 1911 in Zoom or a pro gear in zoom instead of Fine, Medium. etc.
Very informative video. Just what I needed. Thanks so much
Your video is so extremely helpful. Thank you!!
How easy is it to clean the waterproof ink out of the pen and the filler ?
Not too difficult. But if you want more thorough cleaning you have to use ink cleaning liquid or ultrasonic cleaner.
Do you know if they have replacement cartridges for this pen that are permanent ink?
Does anyone know if you can eye dropper either of the sailor pens?
Most likely? These at least are all plastic, so as long as there are no holes in the body they should be safe. Get some silicone grease and put it on.
I am buying the green pen on Amazon. Does anyone know what number cartridges to purchase? I can't find any info. Will any Sailor cartridge will work. I appreciate any assistance!
Sailor cartridges are standard sizes.
Where do you usually get your fountain pens?
+PositivelyNice Either on Amazon or from eBay.
Good review. Tanks bro
What size ink cartridges do I by for that green pen ( I have that one). What is the best site to purchase them? I use these pens for artwork.
You can get the standard Sailor ink convertors and use refillable ink. They can be found online easily and at shops that sells fountain pens.
What is the best pen in fude ?
Try Duke 209 first. It's cheap. ua-cam.com/video/rJdDNvYa8_g/v-deo.html
Really helpful Thank you great drawing too !
Fude nib for beginner are good or very complicated ???
I don't think it's that complicated. No fix way of using it. Just use it however you like
You definitely have to use it very INTENTIONALLY. It also depends on how comfortable you already feel with ink/fountain pen and whether you like being surprised by your supply. It’s not as complicated, but it’s not naturally under control
Do you prefer this or the Duke 209 Teoh?
Duke 209 is smoother
@@teohyc Thank you
Thank you very much for this very clear and step by step review. Which would you recommend for new comers to sketching. Like which would be more useful for drawing very thin and a bit thicker lines, 40 degree nib?
Get the one that has less bend. Or get the Duke 209 fountain pen with fude nib which is smoother than the Sailor
Thank you!
Has anyone tried it for writing Chinese characters? I think of getting one for writing.
I guess these pens are not for writing :/
For writing Asian calligraphy.
