  • Over the past few months, there’s been a lot of speculation over engine problems. And it seems like everyone has an opinion.
Especially after Jimmy Dale’s fresh 434 went down at War In The Woods.
I put a lot of speculation to rest and explain things in a way that hopefully everyone can understand. And show exactly what happened and why.

As an engine builder of over 30 years I figured one thing out. When shit blows up everyone always blames the engine builder. Successful racers work with their engine builders not against them. JS, I have mad respect for uncle Bob!

Wait I though it was the tuner’s fault, the engine guy thought it was always his fault, and the transmission guy always thinks it’s his fault, says a lot about the performance industry , most of the guys care, and want to learn how to overcome weak points, other industries tend to just point the finger at each other..

100%! Uncle Bob does incredible work, he puts his name on everything he does, nobody talks shit about an engine that kills it pass after pass, but let one thing go wrong and “the engine builder screwed something up!” Come on people.

Well said. Being in the car hobby for 25+ years as a 44 year old I have never been so insulted at these morons who know nothing about engines tell me they make more power than my LS1 or 327 sbc that I have build with pride in my driveway. It sickens me but everyone has seen Fast n Furious so naturally we all make 1000hp even if we never held a wrench 😅

I'm no mechanic nor driving at the moment, I comment on everything I see but never negative because over the year's of watching i realise just how many hours and hours it takes to do this racing and I feel so bad if testing goes well, seeing smiles all around only to break something on the first round...THE CAGE'S BUILT ARE 1000% NEEDED, WAR IN THE WOODS JUST GONE A DRIVER UNFORTUNATELY LOST CONTROL ON BUG END AND ENDED WAY INTO THE WOODS THEN HIT A BIG TREE...THANKFULLY THE DRIVER WAS SHOCKED BUT SHOWS HOW MUCH THE CAGE'S SURROUNDING THE DRIVERS SAVED HIS LIFE....

But what you need to understand is, That there's almost 3 generations of drivers that haven't ever driven a street car in there life with a carburetor. Let alone know where to even begin to tune on. Let alone tune one for racing. Google says 1990 was the last yr a carburetor was used on a new car in the United States. It doesn't matter what you use, Just have fun doing it.

I for one appreciate that you defend the engine builders and the like. As you say, once a piece leaves their control, they can’t prevent problems. Racing is a game of experimentation and pushing limits. When you either try something that doesn’t work, or you exceed the limits and discover the weaknesses, you learn from it. That’s how you improve. You’re not talking about going for lunch in the family sedan here, you’re leaning on equipment, HARD! I love watching your channel and following along to see your processes and how you show when things go south and why. You don’t hide things. Good on you! A lot of people tend to have a lot to say when they’ve never been down the track themselves, we run NHRA super stock and have been fighting issues with the motor dropping valves for almost a year and finally figured out it had nothing to do with nothing to do with the internals at all. The block was just wore out and would start to expand after it got hot after a few passes and you can assume where that would go… it’s just one of those freak thing that’s nobody’s fault that happens in racing.

One of your best videos I’ve watched of yours !! Everyone has something to say and have know idea of what we all do to these hot rods and the parts that we buy that we count on to be good and sometimes they’re junk. Great video.

One thing I continue to hear you and the Kids keep saying that's inaccurate is a LS is a Small Block Chevy Yall tend to refer to a LS as not being a Small Block Chevy. The LS is a Gen III or Gen IV Small Block Chevy. The Small Block you refer to mostly applies to the Gen I Small Block. Even the Gen V LT based engines in the 2014+ are Small Block Chevys.

As an engine builder, tuner, and shop owner I KNOW EXACTLY what you mean!!. I go 110% for every person i do work for and get treated like poo sometimes.
BTW, I spray around 425 on two plates on my car and done this same thing to mine. I did a huge wheelie and hit the rev limiter and knocked a pinky size hole in 1 piston ! Ahit sometimes happens on that good Ole N2O. But so fun when it works correctly!

@@Family_Ties_Racing 2018 I decided I needed to build the first fully water jacketed all billet engine that could utilize all the rock solid proven parts of the 481X! After 1 1/2 years of development I am proud to release the SMX engine.
This Engine uses all of the 481X common parts like valve train, cranks, sleeves, cams, lifters, intakes, gear drives, everything, all the readily available parts the ProMod guys use and have on hand. Rock solid, bulletproof and proven.

I'm 57 years old and a40 year mechanic with much experience in foreign and domestic in both side stock to super high performance horsepower. My temperament would not of sounded half as good as you sounded. And brother, I mean business. We'll fucking done on your behalf. Amen.
