Hello everyone. With summer basically here, the garden and yard is getting out of control. Roxane put her skills to work to make things look a lot better. Today was the BIG day for David. He still needed my help. So work was put on HOLD once again haha. I needed to ride his bike to the DMV in order for him to take his test. Wyatt go to go somewhere he has been waiting to go for a while. It was a productive day all around. Thank you all for being here, we appreciate you! Enjoy!

You moved out of the desert so you could have grass and trees. It only makes sense that you would have grass around your garden.
My favorite smell is the very first cut grass of spring!
Cattle panel on each side of your tomato bed and just run sticks through does a great job holding up your tomatoes.

I could sit in a garden for hours.
I'm glad Wyatt likes to read instead of having his nose stuck on some social media site.
I've got nephews and nieces that grew up on social media.
They don't even know how to properly throw a ball or even want to.
When I was a kid, my siblings and I were never in the house during the summer except to eat and sleep. It was hard to get us to come in when it was raining.
I think you made a good choice going country in Arkansas. 😊

Rox I love your garden with the grass, it fits your homestead vibe. In England this is how a lot of our gardens look, raised beds with grass growing around them and country cottage flower beds. Your greenhouse is amazing.

grass is cooler for barefeet in the garden :D also helps keep the overall temps cooler then rocks would. Plus, much more cost-effective to implement/maintain long-term.
Also if not using chemicals on it can be used as mulch to keep the temp down some on your plants
grass helps prevent erosion
Suggestions space out planting start early few and middle few and at end plant few when time plant the plant

Rox U need a cheese cloth to cover your plants to keep out the squash bugs!!
Replant the squash and zucchini. They are fast growers, and squash bugs aren't as bad this late in the season. I'm on my 2nd planting of bush beans right now.

I have lived in the UK for almost 40 years now, and never thought I’d say this, but we could do with less rain and more sun! It was nice seeing you spending time with Wyatt. You should do it more often. Just wondering if you got rid of Bruce? I haven't seen him around for a long time. I see the other big dogs wandering around, but not Bruce. Does he have to stay in the dog pen full time? Glad David passed his test. Now Anthony has a riding buddy. Lower your blades and you won't have to cut as often. The garden looks awesome. The sunflowers are great, my favorite.
Have you tried sprinkling red pepper around your zucchini plants and sprinkle flour on your zucchini.
You have to get a card! While Wyatt is looking around, go to the garden section & landscaping section. I used to get tons of books in the winter, for ideas. It will also get you more familiar with different varieties. There are also a lot of flower books that are mainly lush pictures to drool over.
A squirt bottle half water half or so Dawn Liquid soap,should protect your plants.

Last year was my first year having a garden and I had the same problem with squash bugs last year. We grew sugar pie pumpkins and I lost 4 of the 6 plants. I fought for their lives! 😂🤣 This year we are going to try planting zucchini in July and covering them with netting until they bloom and see how it goes. I haven’t seen a squash bug in the garden yet but I know that could change! Our garden space is small so I don’t have enough space to plant sacrificial plants.

In my younger years sometimes 4 of us would ride together and have a great time for a day.
Maybe next year you should try growing the zucchini/squash in the green house. I feel like you would have less bugs in there.
I agree grass feels good on our feet...good job and yah I see you had a basket on it collecting the grass clippings you can feed the rabbits and chickens with it , Did yah plan on doing that .

Sunflowers are good on the grill, italian dressing and grill face down. Medium size is best, comes out like white corn. Delicious.
I failed dmv twice. Had my learners 2 years and rode all the time still failed the test. Took the Harley course and was the only one to pass with 100% 😂 small bikes they put you on help a bunch lol

Hey Ant, the shelter behind Dave early in the vid, where you got the bike, is something like what you and C’mon mountain need for your caravans tractor and equipment, even as a workshop. Rox your garden is coming along nicely. It’s great to see Dave on 2 wheels, a riding buddy and you both get along so well, some good ride vids coming up? By the way Dave needs some matt head gel to reduce light reflection from his solar panel, where the hair should be, to stop the flash glare when his photo is taken, lol.

I use the local library on line. I read or listen to books on my iPad. I used to go to the library at least once a week. Brought home 15 to 20 books at a time. But that all stopped when a few years ago we got bedbugs from library books! All it takes is one impregnated female! We got rid of about 1/3 of every thing we owned! Check with your local pest control companies and find out if your library has a bedbug problem. Our libraries here in Tucson have them! They hide in the bindings!

I think y'all work too much and don't have enough fun,but hey that's just me. Start living a little,you've been busy for three years. Out of everyone you are set up the best to just let life happen. Do a project every once in a while,that's alright. Daily chores and off to the lake,or go for a bike ride. Life's too short to work from sun-up to sun down. Take care,have fun and God Bless!!!❤😊
I think Wyatt is a great kid. Does he like all kinds of books fiction and nonfiction, History, Science, Westerns??
A trick I use for tomato harvest. I cut the core out, then put bags of them in the freezer. Then when I’m ready to can, I pull them out. Skins slip right off. No steaming to split them. That way too, I’m not forced to preserve everything at once. I’m able to do some winter canning

Rox, here in Dayton, I can go online and see what book, audiobooks, ebooks, music cd's, and DVDs they have. If they are checked out, I can reserve them, and they email me when they have been returned. Also, you can download an ebook and have like 12 days to return it and never leave home! The older I have gotten, next month 74, I tend to fall asleep reading a regular book, but can last hours with an audiobook! Enjoy! ❤❤

Im not sure if it's been mentioned, but companion planting helps with bug control. I have mint planted with my zucchini. I've had no squash bugs. Also one part water one part vinegar seems to work well as a bug repellent. I try to stay away from pesticides.
Wildflowers would be beautiful planted between your garden and Gary and Mel’s house.
Roma's are for canning and you want them to come in all together. I have 12 plants loaded. Good luck. Looks great 👍.

Hey one thing i did was to plant my sunflowers in a pvc pipe about 6 inches high. Keeps the weed eater off them. You could protect some of them by splitting a piece of pipe so you can get get it around the stems. Hold them together with a hose clamp.❤❤❤ we all lose plants.😢
And I must compliment you on your garden!! It is doing very well and will hopefully provide you with many vegetables and fruit!

Have you tried planting marigolds or lemon grass to deter bugs from your garden plants? Letting garlic go to seed or flower helps as well😊

I love your garden. I’m growing my garden in raised beds this year. The grass in Texas is brutal on a garden. I haven’t had a problem with squash bugs. I sprinkled some Cheyenne pepper in the garden so maybe that’s why. The winner of my garden is a pumpkin patch. My granddaughter put three pumpkins in the garden last November. It went from being a little thing to a monster that is climbing the fence. It also has some tiny pumpkins. I also have a tomato garden and have harvested from it three times. Your homestead is looking great 👍.

Rox get you a long propane ligter and when you see the but hit them with the flame and the eggs we did it that way and it helped a lot

The garden looks awesome!! Are you concerned about cross pollination on the tomato plants? I used to have to put the different varieties in different areas of the yard to prevent it.
