There is an enormous church standing in the middle of Koln, Germany and when I found myself standing in sheer awe of it's size and grandeur this was the tune that immediately popped into my head. Sure, it wasn't Strasbourg but hey, close enough for me. If i am ever fortunate enough to go to Europe again Strasbourg, Austria is on my list of places to visit, particularly any cathedral within it's environs.
I just took a stroll through the cathedral. I gazed up at it's lofty rafters and felt the coolness of the stone against my palms, my nose sensed the fragrance of the ages wafting through the mighty doors. Outside I skipped through the spring flowers and heard blackbirds sing. Perhaps I was watched by those that lay entombed all around me.
Stepping out of a Sacred Place is always strange. I remember I stepped out and was trampled by the sound of cars, crowds, and a guy sitting in front of the Church playing the hang drum.
technically 5 as it transitions between major and minor. The "2nd" note in that arpeggio hops between the natural and the sharp depending on the key of the section. But because the other 3 notes are the same, it really gives an effect that it is the same 4 notes.
I love Focus and this period from 1970-75. Incl. Mother Focus. A bit sad they didn't last longer. But everytime I hear them it's Garden of Eden.. from Denmark - Peter Thomsen.
you can still see them - i am in england and will be seeing them next week in Cardiff. The 5th time in the last 5 years. Still great. Two of them are members from there heyday
This is from The Witcher video games. There are tons of these, and you'll find more than youever could imagine! One of my favorites to get you started! Listen to it all the way through,. it will be heaven to your ears! ua-cam.com/video/rYX8pnRscoY/v-deo.html
I don't know which came first, and I don't care, but does this remind anyone else of the music of Michel Legrand, for example the soundtrack of 'The Go-Between'? Both wonderful and we are all so lucky to have lived to hear both. Or maybe that's just me :)
Positively one of the most beautiful pieces of music I have ever heard. Thank you, Thijs Van Leer. Thanks also to Jan, Bert & David.

I used to whistle this while walking across campus. 34 years ago. Thanks for the memory.
did you manage to whistle the whistle solo too?
Yes! Back in those days I was much better at whistling.
Were you delivering milk?
Me too!!!!!
Me too but 40 years ago
Masterpiece from the great prog rock band...missing those instrumental concept albums...the clock was ticking differently back then...

When you're in Europe next time.
There is one like the one in Köln in Milan and in Barcelona too.
Strasbourg(France), Salzburg(Austria)
I deliberately stopped of on an interrail trip and played this at 8.30 on my Bluetooth speaker outside the cathedral. Sublime experience.
Masterpiece that never lost anything as time passed.
This song should be from the book "the fall of the house of Usher! Drama, beauty, suspense, harmony! It has it all! What a treat for the ears!
Check out "Tales of Mystery and Imagination" by Alan Parsons Project if you are interested in their interpretation of Edgar Allen Poe.
@@ElCampeador99 I have the CD. I love it!
This album was one of the first I ever bought. I still listen to it quite often.
I bought it too. After Focus, I was hooked!
Essa música é muito linda. Uma das minhas favoritas do Focus. 😍👍
Absolutely beautiful. A highly original and underestimated band. Love it.
Gracias Focus
Sexually excited?
I visited the Strasbourg Cathedral in June 1980 because of this song.
So evocative and powerful. Focus were unique. Absolutely superb.
Such a beautiful and atmospheric piece of music. Strasbourg Cathedral is an awe inspiring building, like a huge medieval space rocket.

Paul, I think you may apreciate what is the human condition.
Stepping out of a Sacred Place is always strange. I remember I stepped out and was trampled by the sound of cars, crowds, and a guy sitting in front of the Church playing the hang drum.
The real Cathedral de Strasbourg is really a masterpiece of cathedral-building, with that sole spire....
This tune is what Europe sounds like to me.
3:36 - 4:12 just 4 notes, pure bliss.

I’ll take your word for it, and stand corrected. Bottom line: it’s beauty is it’s simplicity.
@@jonhd7952 I completely agree! I just now read and realize it sounded arrogant it wasn't my intention. But you have great taste to be here.
This part of the song must have been a great inspiration for Pat Metheny.

Fantastique
A beautiful place and a beautiful song.
Bobby It sure is Booby I mean Bobby.
I felt as if I was magically transported to this beautiful cathedral. Masterfully arranged and a testament to the creativity and versatility of Focus.
Great album this, great band, was lucky to see Focus live at Hammersmith Odeon back in the late 70's or early 80's

This is from a time past, there will never be anything else like it. Unless you have Focus' "Moving Waves" album.

Well spotted! Both beautiful music! ❤
I'm sorry it took me eight years to reply, but you're so correct. Bach - Michel Legrand - Focus. It doesn't matter... it's all beautiful!
Arguably the finest thing they ever wrote..
