Also the soliders that were attacking Alina and the other grisha are called druskelle they are part of the Fjerdan military (Fjerda is north of Ravka). The druskelle are trained to hunt and kill grisha or kidnap them so they can stand trial and be burned at the stake

To answer your question about how Inej went from brothel to Batman; inej grew up in a travelling circus troupe, where she was an acrobat and knife-thrower, before she was kidnapped and trafficked to Ketterdam and sold as a prostitute. Kaz met her at the brothel where he was conducting some non-seggs business with Heleen, the madam. She snuck up on him to beg for a place in the gang, which impressed him given he prides himself on his observation skills so generally knows if he’s being followed. It’s alluded to in the first episode where he’s quoted that he “only invests in extraordinary abilities” or some such. It’s not a big reveal or anything in the books, so I hope it doesn’t count as a spoiler 🤷🏻♀️
If you want to know about the magic system, here's a summary: Three orders of magic, and different color robes for each RED: Corporalki, control human and animal bodies to heal, harm, or change. BLUE: Etherealki. Summon wind, fire, water. Very rarely, a summoner can summon the darkness or the light. They wear black, in that case. PURPLE: Materialki, or fabrikators. Can manipulate different materials or alchemic properties to create or tear apart.

The ring doesn't have any special thing to it , the reason why Alina's powers were oppressed the first time she was tested was because she was already in pain , she had cut her hands , pain or any type of injury will make you display your abilities . The second time she was tested Kirigan (an amplifier ) was touching her shoulders when she was tested again , so she was unable to oppress her abilities because Kirigan is an amplifier and she has barely any control over her powers.

It's cool you're not for killing people, whoever they are, except in extreme cases like protecting yourself and such but I'm not sure how useful it is to send them in prison for the rest of their lives ^^'. Like, might as well just kill them, since they're pretty much useless to society. I mean it's not pratically viable since we'd be using resources 'food, water and such" all for nothing. Emprisonment is about punishing and trying to rehabilitate someone to live in society normally. I mean, I guess depending on the crime said person would be constantly (or for a certain amount of time) under surveilliance and/or be forbidden to be close to specific person for exemple but yeah I think it'd be better to rehabilitate as much as possible :)
