10 Things You'll Love About Ireland

- In this week's video, we'll share our favorite things about Ireland! We enjoyed every day of our 11 day trip there - from Irish food and beverage to live trad music to amazing history. We saw stunning scenery - the Cliffs of Moher, Connemara National Park, Mount Errigal, the Dark Hedges and more! We visited Sean's Bar - the oldest bar in the world - and walked through some of the great cities and towns - Dublin, Athlone, Galway, Sligo, Derry/Londonderry. We'll tell you the things we liked best, and share locations and activities we think you'll love as well.

Been there TWICE, (1978 and 2022), and I can't say anything bad about the country, the weather, the police or the people in general. The food is excellent. This last time, I had the full Irish breakfast and some kind of afternoon meal and was good for the day. I can say I am not a fan of Black and White Pudding. It wasn't bad, I am just not a fan.
I do recommend the National Leprechaun Museum in Dublin. It is a good bit of whimsy.

The black and white puddings were similar to some of the items my grandparents fed us when we were kids. We ate the puddings at almost every breakfast and some were better than others. @@thissecondhalfadventure Yes I try to pop over once or twice a year. I usually spend a few days in Derry to visit family and then head into Donegal for the scenery.

As you HINT AT, Irish people generally really like AMERICANS!!! (It's an historic thing, most Irish Natives have family members, aunts, uncles, sisters and brothers who emigrated to the USA/North America. This has been going on for hundreds of years and still does, indeed...) Because of this, Irish People feel a certain kinship with Americans. We also get so much US culture, music, TV, movies so we KIND OF think we know you already!!! It also FLATTERS US that you'd come to visit us!
Enjoying your videos very much! (Quite a lot of visitors to Ireland don't REALLY explore the country properly, and that's kind of understandable. However, you two have have gone slightly 'off the tourist track' and been to Sligo, Donegal and Derry... These places are where you'll REALLY discover a kind of unique 'IRISHNESS' that can be difficult to find in the bigger cities like Dublin, Cork, Limerick and even Galway...)

Thank you for your reply! I think that if exploring/discovering the South Irish Republic you've quite a few options? In terms of Ancient Irish History, the 'Glendalough' region of Co.Wicklow is worth a visit, famous for its Great Loch and its historic 1000 year-old still standing Round Tower and (now ruined) monastery and quite beautiful scenery. (Round Towers were designed as fortified places where monks and locals could 'hide out in' when VIKINGS RAIDED!!!! Which was often a 1000 years ago!!!)
The region of Co.Kerry is worth a visit too, the famous 'Ring Of Kerry' is iconic. (Beautiful scenery and mountains...) The small coastal town of Dingle in Co. Kerry has been described as one of the best places to visit in Ireland. (Quite 'touristy' but, in fairness, retaining a certain unique character.)
Cork City is famously The Republic's 'Second City' (Cork natives might argue that point!!!) and a VERY DIFFERENT city to Dublin! Cork people are a 'type' unto themselves, but very friendly and charming. That said, Cork City is a 'real' City and very cosmopolitan. (Worth a visit for the accent alone!!!) WEST CORK on the coast, particularly the small town of BALTIMORE, (raided and sacked by Barbary Pirates in 1631 when almost the entire population were taken to North Africa as slaves!) is worth exploring. (Other small towns in the area like Union Hall, to mention just one, are equally charming. Like Donegal, indeed, West Cork still maintains a unique 'IRISHNESS' that is slowly vanishing...) SOME OF THESE coastal places offer 'boat trips' to offshore islands but frankly there's not a lot to see... Just ROCKS in the ocean, really...) Though many people like to visit them!
None of these places are 'lesser known' of course, however half the fun of Exploring Ireland is to, yes, see some famous places/natural sites BUT ALSO to discover for yourself what exists JUST MINUTES outside these 'tourist attractions'? (One of the reasons I enjoy your videos is that you seem to do that!!!) The BEST DISCOVERIES and EXPERIENCES in Ireland always happen by accident rather than design! (Stop somewhere ordinary, a tiny village, go to the local pub and SOMEBODY will tell you their life story and ask about yours!) Engaging in conversation with Local People is the best way to find out about a 'unique experience'...
DRIVING in Munster, (South West Ireland) won't be any different to what you've already experienced.

@@thissecondhalfadventure Hi there☺️ Well to start I can never say enough about West Cork,it's truly magical. I was lucky enough to love in multiple parts over multiple times in my younger life and visited with friends as often as possible, I still do. There's too many places to mention, it really would require your own investigating online but you'll know what i mean as soon as you do, and you'll enjoy discovering all about it yourself. Cork is huge, West Cork is huge. It's along the Wild Atlantic Way which is perfect for ye're style of travelling🥰 To see it all would be an entire trip in itself☺️ Cork city is wonderful, my home. Full of the funniest, friendliest, most welcoming and warm people you'll ever meet and I mean that😍 But I highly recommend ye visit as much of West Cork as ye possibly can. If fairies are real, this is where they were created❤️ A truly wonderful, outstandingly beautiful, mysterious and magical place. Hope this helps and hope ye have a wonderful trip!! @tiddlywinks456. I think we enjoyed the slagging because we both were raised in families where slagging was almost a sport. Nothing degrading mind you. It kept us on our toes and a little more humble! 😂

Saint Valentine is buried in Dublin and Saint Patrick in Downpatrick, County Down.

I needed to find out more about St. Valentine. I read there were “remnants “ of him in Dublin but wasn’t sure what that meant. Also interesting that he is the Patron Saint of beekeepers. 😀

Ulster Irish is not a different accent of the English language, it’s a dialect of Gaeilge, the Irish language. What you might have encountered was a northern or Donegal accent. Yes, big Scottish influence or Ulster-Scots in County Antrim and east Donegal. There’s a accent continuum from Kerry (south) to the very north of Scotland with the ancient province of Ulster being a bridge between the two countries that’s true for English (the English of Ireland is called Hiberno-English) and for the two most common Gaelic languages (Irish, Scottish Gaelic, and Manx being the third). Jameson ginger and Guinness? You both obviously have good taste. Try the many local craft beers and Ireland’s amazing gins. Seán’s bar is authentically old, also Brazen Head in Dublin.

Hi, Co Clare is a beautiful county but the West coast gets all the hype and attention and gets promoted more by the tourist boards but the East Clare area exspically around Lough Derg lake is a beautiful stunning area which I would recommend you to explore, wonderful rolling hills and valleys and many lakes and fantastic food with many choices of restaurants or pub restaurants and great value. I hope this helps you in any way and hope you enjoy all your travels wherever you go
@@user-he8qk8ku8b 😀👍 You’re right! All the attention does go to the coast. Living in the middle of the U.S., we do have a lot of coastline around the Great Lakes with some beautiful hiking and vistas but Ireland has a dramatic coastline and history that draws us in!
We are always excited to get new location recommendations. We feel at home in smaller towns/villages . Another viewer mentioned Billina/Killaloe so we will be checking it out!
Soon we will be preparing for our trip back, and we will be transitioning to some American video locations that we think have an Irish connection and illustrate small town life in Indiana.

They are doubts about seans bar ,but if guinness were to chose a pub for the oldest in ireland for their own reasons it wouldn't be athlone all due respect to the fine people in athlone its not really a tourist draw.
With the dated relics in the pub and all the fact checking by Guinness, I’m sure the honor is legitimate. The staff at Sean’s were top notch! I must say Athlone looked like a lovely town with the River Shannon running through it. Thanks gallowglass for watching!! 😁👍🇺🇸🇮🇪
