    I did this today and thanks to Sean's video it was a breeze. What I would add is @1:50 mark he describes having and issue. First of all the plug that pushes down you do not need to unclip if you dont want/have to. It goes to a sensor around the back of the engine and is no issue. I also had an issue this time with injector six electrical connector. After the harness was up in the front and still attached to the last plug I move the harness back to as close to the original position and grabbed it from the passenger side of the engine and used my thumbs to push down GENTLY on the fuel rail and it came off. There is a protective cover on the last throttle body that also has a clip that the harness is hooked on. This prevents you from pulling the harness up at that end(6) unless you know where the clip is and how to unhook the harness. Thanks again to Sean for taking the time to post these great videos!

    I found a swivel head in my garage and got the bolt off but cant actually pull the rail up. Skipping that im trying to get the harness off of the injectors and of course you skipped that... sigh.

    sean at 2:18, that vacuum line is connected to the rail but what is that little piece of hose connected to back there?

    If the hex bolts on the fuel rails are missing can that cause a vacuum leak? Or lean bank 1 and 2 running lean?

    Thank you for all of your videos, they have been extremely helpful with getting my M3 working top notch for the track. Quick question, do you have any tips for getting the rear 10mm bolt back in when you are putting everything back together? In the past I used some poster putty but I may be missing something.

    Would you recommend doing this for a non dedicated track car? At what point is it a good idea to get this done and what signs will the car be showing? I'm in the process of sending an oil sample to Blackstone and if it comes back with rod bearings issues I'd like to get everything under the hood done at once.

    • @SeanS54
      @SeanS54  6 років тому

      I recommend doing this if you have close to 100K miles. Also if you have a rough idle, poor performance, or poor MPG. I think cleaning the injectors at least once for the life of the car is good maintenance.

    Hey man, I got a report from blackstone labs stating that my fuel dilution was at 4% when it should be below 2%. I think I’m gonna send my i injectors in to get tested. Quick question, your video says dont forget the o rings when reinstalling the injectors. Do you need to get new o rings or reuse the old ones? Tha ns

    What does the small hose on the back of the air line go to? Mine is completely missing and I’m lost on that one 😅

    hey Sean, hopefully you see this.
    I was performing this on my supercharged E46 M3 I just purchased and discovered that little small hose on the end of the rail for the PCV system is gone. I dug my hand around, couldnt find it behind the motor, any idea what it is called and where it goes so I can find it?
    Thanks

    please, please let me know how you unconnect the injector from the black wiring harness clip without actually taking off the wiring harness. I see the metal clip that surrounds the clip but can't figure out how to unplug the injector from the connector.

    • @SeanS54
      @SeanS54  6 років тому

      The injector can be unplugged from the connector with a little prying force, or what I did was use a very small flat head screw driver to slightly move the clip from it's groove, then wiggle out the injector.

    Nice video. Thanks. I like the attention to detail. My e46 m3's oil smells a bit like fuel (I noticed it when looking into the engine through the oil fill cap). It's not overwhelming but noticeable. I read that having fuel in the oil is not good (because it reduces the lubrication) so I looked up possible causes. Apparently leaking fuel injectors are one of the common suspects - which led me to this video. My car's startup is always strong but sometimes I have a few moments of rough idle after startup, other than that I don't have any leaking-fuel-injector symptoms (rough idle, smoke or smell of gas in the exhaust, rough idle). Do you think the fuel injector analysis can diagnose the leaking that causes the fuel smell in the engine oil? Or, do you think I'm on the wrong track completely? Anyhow, great video and I'm looking forward to more. Very helpful.

    • @SeanS54
      @SeanS54  6 років тому

      Thanks for watching! When you send your injectors out, they will test it and clean it, and let you know if there's a leaking injector. Before you do that, I recommend doing a $30 oil analysis to see how much fuel is actually in your oil. Here's a DIY: ua-cam.com/video/20qWdTEbcX8/v-deo.html

      I've been getting rough starts on my E46 M3 as well. Sometimes it won't start unless I turn the key back to off and try again, then it starts strong. Runs and idles just fine. In the last year I've replaced the fuel filter, fuel pressure regulator, fuel pump just last week as well as the relay (which is in the trunk above the battery behind the carpet) and just replaced my spark plugs and coil packs, all that cuz the car actually stalled and wouldn't start. The rough starts have improved, but it's still there. I know how to troubleshoot, but also I'm about to drive cross country and figured new stuff is good. May get my injectors tested as I have no idea what else could be causing this.

      @@seanmiller8701 curious if you went ahead with the injector cleaning? I have all the exact same symptoms as you and have done everything you have done so far short of coils and wires and relay. I'm going to pull injectors tomorrow and get them sent in but I'm at the end of my list of things to try soon to fix this issue. Also have a heavy gas smell from exhaust but I am also catless, however I feel the smell is too gassy even for not having cats. Which took me to this video.

    • @seanmiller8701
      @seanmiller8701 5 років тому

      @@johnhanson2410 I haven't had them checked. I need to though. I also am pretty sure they're leaking as my oil level went up a bit and does slightly smell like fuel. (There's no sign of coolant in the oil). It's also my only car so pulling the injectors and sending them off isn't much of an option. I'll probably just buy new ones eventually. I just got to Florida 2 months ago, cross country trip went smooth, and fast, no issues, just the starting hesitation.

    It's probably a good idea to replace the 12x vacuum line o-rings as well, PN: 13417830384. I replaced mine recently (at 143k), and several looked like square-cut brake piston seals when I pulled them off. :-/

    • @SeanS54
      @SeanS54  6 років тому

      I took it off for the time being. Unlike my 335i twin turbo, the catch can on this car really only caught water vapors and no oil. The factory oil separator does a really good job. The OCC is still sitting in my garage so I may decide to put it back in in the future.

    This is not a video that will teach people to check and clean injectors DIY style. You took your injectors out and then had them sent off somewhere to have the work done. That is not DIY. You did remove them yourself -- I'll give you that, but your title says, Fuel Injectors DIY, Testing & Cleaning. Your title should be Fuel Injectors DIY, removal so you can mail them in to be tested. Had that been your title I would have known not to watch.

      you could have easily skipped ahead through the DIY uninstall part if the cleaning part was all that you were interested in, to easily ascertain that this video did not actually contain the DIY to cleaning and testing it.
