Amazing, Brilliant, Awesome! ALL those adjectives! I'm building a model railroad, and needed a ledge to go around one of the mountains and could NOT figure out how to do it. Was going to Home Depot and pay 12 bucks for a gauge, did a You Tube search and there you were! Thank you so friggin' much!
Thank you! Unlike the one in Home Depot you can use it in any direction even if you need to gauge around non-flat surface, you just need to rap the cardboard around the surface and follow the pattern. it can be bent for odd surfaces but the one in Home Depot is rigid and can not ;-)
I have recently learned that before I go out and buy ANY tool I should search for a DIY solution first. There's almost always a way to save the hour drive (one way) to nearest store.
darkvader47 “fricking” is absolutely the correct adjective here. I used the same word in my comment and then saw yours. Haha. Beyond amazing, it’s FRICKING AMAZING.
Thanks so much for this post! Was just searching the web for an extra deep contour gauge, and so disappointed that apparently the deepest gauge available only goes up to 3.5" depth. Glad I checked YT for ideas. You've inspired me to build something extremely similar, if not exactly the same. You deserve a like!
When my dad and I needed to make fenders for a race car, we had to make sure both sides looked the same. We made a 3ft one with 1x4s and small dials. we bolted them down every have foot and it worked great. just something out there if you need something to a larger scale.
Yeah Sometimes you just need to be a bit creative and having fun to do the DIY. Isn't it better to be less and less consumer to save our only planet with lots of garbages. Thanks for your kind comments 🌹
Seems like its recirculating. They tried charging me $25 plus all sorts of shipping and taxes saying its "70-90% off" Amazon has some good ones for under $15 but this is a good DIY for that once every few months that I need it 😂
Hello friend I am from Brazil, so English is not my native language. I speak Portuguese. So I would initially like to apologize for possible typos in my comment. But I want to say that I think this idea very cool. Congratulations.
I bought it $1from Dollar-shop,,,, but this video is just to say that you can make your own tools with the regular stuff around you whenever you don't have access to a complete toolbox, beside if you have a curvature surface you can use this one with cardboard made, but surely not with the one that you buy with solid/ rigid body. Thank you for your comment
I don't care what kind of project you are doing or what your budget is, folks, IT IS NOT WORTH IT so skim $8, get a very good and reliable one on Amazon!
I didn't push anyone to make their own, it was just an idea, it seems not slick as the one on Amazon but believe it or not I have done my whole project with the one you saw on my video,, beside I tried to show that you can get the profile even with vertical surface unlike the one you buy is rigid hard with about 1 inches on each side, mine is way accurate.. also you can get a better profile on curvy surfacs,, after all it's built by cardboard.. Sometimes it's good to be creative somehow other than being a topical consumer and pile up our shelves with so many unwanted product which you may use once in a blue moon. Thank you very much for your comment, and thanks for watching ;-)
@@gig970 you are 100% correct and i was very wrong in my comment. It was a little mean...i have a sarcastic sense of humor. I love DIY and cosy cutting but for me projects like that never really work out long term due time and energy purchasing and then i try to reinvent the wheel and upgrade things...lol! Anywho sorry for the rant but i hope you have a happy holidays!
Brilliant! Now that's a contour gauge that's within my budget

Great invention but I got anxiety a little when you cut the cardboard directly on the wood floor! 😂
LOL yeah I get that a lot! Thanks 😊
yes me too :-), but dont worry next video will be how to fix the floor after cut contoured cardboards on it
Not only the wood floor but the table in the beginning of the video.
Me too lol!!
Made my eyes hurt!
Brilliant idea but WHY did you use an X-Acto blade to cut through cardboard directly on top of wood floors? why?
Simply fricking AMAZING!

Wonderful! I too was about to spend money on a manufactured profile guage, but not now!

This is genius, why didn’t anyone think of this before. Bravo my friend 👏
AWESOME! Thanks a bunch
Very very cool 😎 and what’s even cooler is opening the kitchen drawer and finding the skewers patiently waiting
I'm about to get up and walk into the kitchen. I hope I'm lucky today!
Couldn't get easier than that. Bravo!
This is genius
Thank you 👍
Amazing I love it! But what real DIY guy doesn’t want another tool in the box lol. Thanks for the great vid!
Amazing! I was thinking I'd have to make one with wood and skewers but this is genius 😆
So simple and clever. What a man.
Wow!!! This is genius 🙂.
Frickin excellent. Great job!
Genius! I'm doing tile now! I'm going to try this.
Thanks a lot, I am a big fan of DIY improvisation. I was going to buy 1, didn't think about making it ( which I usually do). Thanks again.

Wow really cool how you cut that big gouge into the wooden floor
Simple as contour gauge for measurement?
OMG...just when I was about to order one...thank you my friend
I was just about to spend over £20 on a large Contour Gauge on Amazon. Lol not anymore. Thanks
Same, I'm here because I just saw one and thought, maybe someone has a video on making one. :)
me to,thanks for video
It's brilliant due to its... simplicity!
simple & brilliant👍👍👍
I believe there is a pvc board that has slots for skewers(i dont recall the name for it )just like the cardboard you have used.
I think you meant plastic corrgated board, which I'm totally agree 💯
Finally affordable Cardboard added design! (CAD)
Brilliant! How did you think of this?
Very well thought out. Great idea!
Great!!! Thanks
Thank you, and just so you know, Amazon's sales of Contour gauges is decreasing because of this video. LOL
great job! but why didn't you cut the cardboard on a protected surface instead right into the floor?
LOL you are absolutely right! My bad
Ingenious!
Thank you for sharing x
wow! simple and cheap but enough for home use! thanks! :)
thanks a lot
Simple, clever, thank you.

Muy bueno!!! Excelente

Spend £10 on Amazon for a plastic tool or spend £1 for wooden skewers! Hmmm. I am gonna steal this project!
Muito top sua idéia amigo
obrigado amigo
👍👏 super merci 🙃
good
Clever.
I love it, but I feel like those skewers are probably gonna total to $15 and I can get a tool for that price.

I mean they are like 6 quid. But that's still cool.

Your floor has cut mark.
wood skewers and corugated cardboard! LOL!
LOL yeah!!
Dont scratch the floor
LOL☺️ That was the old hardwood floor which I was going to replace.
@@gig970 make a video when you take up the old floor
Why would you want to waste $10 on something you only used once a while.
Did anyone else CRINGE when they cut out the cardboard shape with a razor blade on a wooden floor? Dude!
LOL, I know! But I had planned to change that old hardwood anyway
Well it's easy to copy someone's brilliant idea for cheaper, I guess!
You can use a rock instead of a hammer.
Or just spend ten and much less effort and hell a less tacky
Thanks for your comments. I thought it could be an alternative to the $10 one which I have at home and it can't do the vertical sides.

cool but I think most people will just spend the $8 for a durable plastic one that will last forever.
A whole bunch of cheap mofos on here. Just buy the tool its only $20 buck and will save you the time to make this.
Thankyou❤
