I love that you were celebrating 100 subscribers, and now I'm watching and you're at 158k. This is a testament to how great of a teacher you are, and how helpful your content is. Thank you so much!
Wow...I just discovered this amazing channel. I'm learning so much! I was shocked when you said that you are celebrating your first 100 subs 🤯🥳 Really good content! Congrats!
Wow, in just 1 year you went from 100 subscribers to almost 84K! You were born for this! Thank you so much for creating these amazing videos. After two years of not touching my camera you’ve got me excited to pick up photography again. I’m learning so much!
You are a real inspiration and as a new amateur photographer, you have let me in to a bigger world of this amazing thing called photography. at around 8:40, even before you've taken the picture, it already looks a million. Btw. your 100 subs are now exactly 323.000 including yours truly. Keep inspiring us :-)
Celebrating 100 subscribers - watching this in 2021 with now 276,000 subscribers. I love this journey and am happy for your success Jonie! Congratulations! Thanks for all the great content!
Thank you so much for sharing this beautiful step by step. I love so much the last part with the slow motion shoot... that much that i am hungry right now. Thank you again!
I tried the adding height to your subject in order to make the other things blur in my latest picture on Instagram and totally loved the result. Thanks a lot
Ingenious presentation like all your videos; they are didactically and rhetorically perfect and I love your enthusiastic body language which is really sweet and has style! I am sure you will have over a million subscribers in no time. Keep up the good work.
So funny celebrating 100 subscribers and now, in May 2023, you're on 328k. Fantastic success, great videos that put the message across clearly. Best wishes for the next landmark - 500k?
I'm a little late to the game.... 100 subs?? Wow you've blown up in such a short time! (114k) Thanks for giving back to all of us aspiring food photographers!
Haha I bought several pieces of marble several years ago too and... I still lug them around occasionally. So beautiful. So impractical. Hilarious - I'm glad I'm not the only one who did that!!
finally invested in a real camera and tripod and this video (especially the end with the tiny stool) is really gonna help with my photos! So cool to see you go from 100 followers in this video to where you are now too!
Hi Nicole! I know, my brain's gonna explode with how quickly things are picking up! Thanks for being a part of the party here and stay tuned for more fun!
Wow celebrating 100 subscribers during filming, watching Nov 2019 sitting at 154k subscribers. Congrats on your channel growth its very well deserved your content is fantastic. Thanks for sharing all you have, we all appreciate it!!
Thank you for going through flat lay. Adding height to your subject makes the photo more interesting. You really do get me thinking more Joanie. Thank you....
Congratulations on reaching the big 100! I love how you provide techniques we can put into practice right away (the tip on apertures was a light bulb moment for me!). It's especially wonderful to be able to see your studio setup in action, too! Keep up the wonderful work, Joanie! Hitting subscribe now and looking forward to your future videos!
Thanks, Christina! And thank you so much for the kind words about my channel! Glad to know the tips are helpful. I've got a list going of video requests so definitely more coming soon! Cheers
So happy I stumbled on your channel, love your energy and simple teaching style. I find food styling and photography one of the most challenging genera that I cover. Looking forward to learning more!
Joanie, flat lays is when you LEAST need a big depth of field, because everything is on the same plane (considering the thickness of the knife and of the food, of course, but that’s not a lot). F/4 should be more than enough, and certainly not f/16 or more, because with such small aperture values, comes a high degree of diffraction, which makes the optical performance of your lens deteriorate. What would be interesting to discuss as techniques for when a deep depth of field IS required (hint: not flat lays), is focus stacking and tilt-shift lenses. I love both.
Loving your videos!! Crazy, I'm watching this now you have 88K basically a year later!! Congrats, I'm not surprised at all that your channel has grown, this is such good content!! Thank you : )
Just found your channel and love it! Can't stop watching! Love your energy and teaching style. So helpful as I start to dabble in shooting food. Thanks so much for sharing your knowledge.
I am getting slowly into the perks of food photography, being a nutritionist and recipes developer I wanna learn how to capture my creations.I am sooooo happy I found your channel.Came across this 100 subscribers video and look at your reaching up to 6000! amazing! and well deserved, you are very bubbly, approachable and fun. Thanks for posting!
Love your show! Great ideas presented very enjoyably. Useful hint about getting camera square to the surface, is to put a small flat mirror on the surface; if you can see the circle of the front of the lens centred in the frame, you are dead square. It doesn' t matter if the mirror is off to the side.....the only way that you can see the front of the lens centred in frame is if the camera is looking exactly squarely on! I loved your pomegranate shots! best wishes and keep shooting and filmimg!!
Joanie, I remember when you started out. I love the channel and am so happy to see that you are successful and blessed. Love the tips for food photography. Keep up the great work. Chef John
Cheers to youuu! This video makes me believe how consistent efforts reap good things in life, you were celebrating 100 sub and now look at you doing so well with your 229k sub, woww! And your content is really good. Glad I found this channel and got hooked to it.
I just recently found out this channel since I'm starting to do some photoshoots of my own, and oh my god... your tips on how to take photos are super informative! Would love to tag you soon in Instagram.
I've recently been getting into food photography myself so this was great! It's also amazing that you grew so quickly from 100 subs in this video in November to 11k in March, keep up the amazing work!
Tip: Manfrotto 055 with horizontal flat arm= $550 + $350 for head (In my country) Manfrotto 290 lite w/ 3 way head included = $260 Take the 290 and adjust legs for either narrow spread, or wide spread. Slide out the vertical arm. Re-insert the vertical arm upside down. Adjust 3 way head to 90 degrees. Style and compose your frame and lower it to the ground (This also makes getting higher angled lighting easier.) Position tripod over your set up. It requires more bobbing up and down, and positioning of fill cards etc, but if flat lays aren't your regular shot, it also saves you $640 (That's just in my currency) to use towards additional lenses, speed flash; back drops, props;soft box diffuser's etc. Manfrotto tripods are expensive, but back their price up with excellent quality. Even their lower price heads are sturdy and secure enough to hold the weight of a full frame camera without the slow, steady slide down that happens with lesser quality gaskets. C stands and extension arm tripods are great. I would recommend them if your main source of income is photography. If your a non professional, then go for a good quality tripod and adapt it and use the additional money for items that can expand the diversity of how you shoot.
Just found your channel tonight! Loving it! You're a great teacher! Would love a video on how to set-up the camera to your c-stand for a flat lay shoot. Please please please? Thanks Joanie!
What a lovely channel. So useful, so positive! Thanks for sharing. I have a dumb question:)) When you were shouting, you were looking how it looked in the camera, I guess you have rotating screen there or something like that, my Canon doesn't have it, any ideas how i can control shoots from above? Or I have to climb on the table to see whats going on:))))I know I'll be ashamed years later for asking this question lol
You bet! So happy to get to share! Side note, working on the area for the goats. I think we're still a year or so out until we add actual animals, but slowly but surely :)
Hey! Came across your content, love a lot of it. If I may I would like to give you a heads up! I work with a photographic company, and one thing [old rule] that people do is shoot beyond F11 on APS-C and F8 on Full Frame. When you do, the light behaves differently at smaller aperture openings (high F stop, such as 16/22) and diffraction sets in, which actually adds a general softness to the image. I totally suggest snapping at F11 or less for APS-C or F8 on Full Frame to avoid it. You'd be surprised how much softness it adds. Give it a whirl! Snap one at F5.6, then one at F22. You'll be shocked. Cheers! Thanks for the content!
The Bite Shot yeah! It’s just a small family owned company for equipment here in my province. If you check www.slrgear.com, they have graphs for lenses based on sensor sizes. Good way to know the sharpest part of your lens! (And when diffraction sets in). If you navigate to your lens, click the sensor size and then the chart, be closer to zero (neon pink), the sharper the image. The color sheet you see is actually your focal planes sharpness. Cheers! If it’s confusing I can always explain it to ya 👍🏻
Just Found out This Full of Skills food photography Channel😍 for which I've been looking for !!! Thank you so much Mam ! But i have a question can i shoot the same quality pictures just like as you do on my Canon 200d Mark ii??
Thanks for the idea o using a C stand as a camera stand. I was perusing craiglist.com and found two Mathews C Stands in great shape for a hundred dollars for both. The guy would not sell them individually. However, I have an RV and boat garage but, no longer have either a motor home or a boat. Thus I have space for just about any gear. I am sure that I can make use of both stands, These Mathew stands are super sturdy. I looked at some new off-brand stands at my local camera store and the Mathews stands beat them hands down for sturdiness. They seem like they could support a Volkswagen but, OTOH, are almost as heavy as the V.W.
I love that you were celebrating 100 subscribers, and now I'm watching and you're at 158k. This is a testament to how great of a teacher you are, and how helpful your content is. Thank you so much!

This is super useful even outside of food. Thanks for making fun videos.
100 subs and now you have 269k AND WELL DESERVED IT! thank you so much

I actually gasped out loud when you showed the pomegranate on the stool and the seeds were blurred! ♥️

That's awesome info to have!!! Good to know the specifics of how those ranges change more than just the depth of field. Which company!? So awesome!
