There’s more original song writing in this 15 set gig than most bands could hope to achieve over a catalogue of 100+ songs. And the scary thing is perhaps their greatest work never saw live performances. Can you imagine this show with the added delight of live versions of That’s Really Super, Supergirl, Dear God, Mayor of Simpleton, Peter Pumkinhead, Across the Antheap, Easter Theatre and on and on
God, they're so fucking good. Andy is such an electric performer. You can't tell his brain just isn't into it. To a casual observer he's having a great time. Too bad, but thank goodness for video recordings.
Hope that audience, realises how lucky they were to have witnessed this ? They got to see something in 82 that us in the uk never did. Watching this makes me realise wot i was so geared up for and missed out on. Gutted 😩
@@vanishing_girl The Beatles, Steely Dan, King's X, Sevendust, It Bites, The Movies, Kevin Gilbert, Nik Kershaw, ZZ Top and XTC. You see, very old fashioned
Just to echo a couple of other comments on here, I saw them at Blackpool with about 150 others. Despite some obvious bemusement at how few of us were there, the level of performance and energy was exceptional; really great live band.
I went to see Black Grape when I lived in Hamburg where this was filmed and there was about 25 people there. Shaun Ryder comes on takes one look at the crowd and goes, "I've seen worse." Me and my girlfriend were in the middle of where the audience were supposed to be with no one near us. Afterwards my girlfriend said to me, "That guy kept staring at me" (Bez)
I know it's not quite the same but Terry is still playing with ExTC - with Andy Partridge's blessing. The set is 22 of XTC's classic songs. I saw them at the 100 Club last week and they were excellent
Saw them in New Orleans during the Black Sea tour in a little club called Ole Man River's. I was blown away how good they were. Still love listening to them.
This is AMAZING. I guess I never realized the energy they brought live, given their later and great years. How I wish I could see the timeline where they played their later music live, with a live interpretation and energy on those great tunes. Would never want to lose the studio versions, but long to see the evolution of their live interpretations...

Dangerous band for a young musician to get into - as I was 20 years ago. If they couldn't truly break through then what chance do you have? XTC are a lesson in futility. I fucking love them, but most punters don't know they are one of the best.
'Most punters' don't know they existed. I know people in the UK pop music industry who made or broke bands on a whim - know-nothings with money and influence. The classical world would have given them the respect they deserved if that had been their genre.
Well put. I have so many friends that like the same music as me and could never get into XTC. I used to listen to the albums at night with earphones for hours. Such good records.
Not they're best song ! There are better tracks on Blacksea, alone . This and Towers of London, are the weakest tracks on the album . But thats not to say they are bad songs .
Great video, but why is Andy's microphone so damned loud? Typical sound man that thinks the "lead" singer's microphone is somehow more important that the microphones of other band members when they also sing a song.
Saw them in Hollywood '79 with Wall of Voodoo opening for them, spectacular! Then in 80 excited for them only to be turned away as Andy got stage fright, we all were so bummed I continue to listen to them 40 yrs later and after Led Zeppelin, my favorite all time band!!!!

I'd give anything for a true live performance of Train Running Low On Soul Coal.

I love this earlier (more like mid career) stuff.
We are so fortunate this was captured!
This is fantastic. What a great band they were, with that awesome guitar sound. I love Mummer and English Settlement.

Terry Chambers is/was amazing , hell the whole band are great would have been great to see them live
hopefully they'll reunite

reunion ! now !
Saw the Black Sea US tour in Minneapolis in Nov. 1980 as they opened for The Police.
Nice. Lucky fucker
The Drums & Wires/ Black Sea/English Settlement middle-period is unassailable.
They float my ethereal boat. I am from New Orleans as well, but I was 17 and didn't have wheels, and this show was not advertised much.
Love XTC. One of the greatest bands ever! So sorry, that I could never see them live!
i seen them twice. man, i'm lucky for that. great band
@@darrballl Lucky one!
Very little footage of XTC live from English Settlement album onward, so this is treat.. especially Runaways, Snowman.. Ball and Chain.
that's because this was their last tour, they became a studio band after this
@@MagellanOfBass Sure I knew that, but thanks.
Great show, the high energy early XTC, with songs from English Settlement, a classic as soon as I heard it. Thanks for the upload !

My new-old favourite band!
Hell yeah!
It's great to see and hear a live version of Snowman. I love that song.
This, to me, shows that stage fright is the worst enemy of uber performers. It's SUCH A GOOD GIG ! A.P. You and your team are genious's !
He does seem to be overly manic and probably compensation for stage fright, or feeling of inadequacy.

Guuuuaaaauuuuu. Esta banda era simplemente genial. A 38 años de este concierto suena genial. Un grupo excelente en todos los sentidos. ¡¡Asombroso!!!
That is truly max effort on the drum kit
Saw them once at Colchester Uni. An exceptionally good live band.
Brilliant
1 month before Andy went off the rails in Paris.
A bit of distance warms the heart
thank you very much Egidio! One of my favourite bands, and the one the most underrated !
What a amazing group ❤

Who would start the concert with arguably their best song? So much energy. Beautiful
All of their songs are pretty much their best song. An embarrassment of riches, so to speak.

Superb!
Masters of misdirection. Two songs in one
In 1980, XTC toured with The Police. I was just imagining these songs with Stewart Copeland. Would’ve been brilliant.
Is there a higher res version of this anywhere...???
This is 1982. I would say this is as good as as it gets.

That's the sound man's error. He should've lowered him in the mix when he's not singing lead.
