This is a great idea. It doesn't have to be about being the biggest event, whoever comes are the right people. We need more of this type of event all over. So many folks don't even know the makers in their local area.

Awesome idea, Kudos for coming up with the idea, Love the anonymity of it too. Gives everyone a chance to relax. If I may suggest, Inherently the end of August has usually been a good time for the weather following through into September. But with kids being back at school early September, It might be best to look at Mid to End of August. Just a thought.

This sounds like such a fabulous idea! Too bad I simply can't break away from work to come to any of these events. Joe, you could bring the event to Greece! I promise you'd have huge attendance from the Greek makers community! But seriously, a really great idea, hope it all goes well for you!
Ahh wish you could make it mate! There is a possibility to take ‘Maker Festival’ on tour so who knows we could come to Greece in the future

Somewhere around your neck of the woods would be perfect. I know it’s not central for Scotland but it is accessible by most modes of transport. The problem with a campsite is that they are not accessible to people who can’t walk. Even in dry weather scooters, wheelchair and mobility trikes are useless on grass though the latter is the best. Great idea Joe, I can see this one having a future.
Being as central as possible would be ideal but hopefully with decent transport links we could make the most of the beautiful areas we have in the UK. I want this to be accessible to all for sure. Id hate for anyone to feel left out in any way

Dazbogshift I’m thinking it would be a huge camp fire and crying about all that wood going up in smoke when I could make something out of it.

This is such a good idea Joe! We’d be there 100%. If Makers Central does happen next year then it could be a good idea to push this a little later so maybe August? Just so they aren’t so close together. Could also look at doing it over the bank holiday so people could stay until the Monday if they fancied? Just some ideas. Completely behind this 👍🏼

Definitely will be talking with Nick when I have a venue sorted. Best to have a decent gap between events so not all crammed at one end of the calendar and we spend the rest of the year with nothing to look forward to.

Great idea but I fall in to the 'i ain't camping camp' 😀 so a hotel, guest house, lodge, would be fine. Great thought and definitely summer time !

We were just saying Makers Central and the likes of, only happen once a year, and it isn't enough for you guys to get together....So Defo a good idea!
Ideal sites would be where car boot sales are held....farmers always renting the fields out mate. The festival vibe is Defo a good twist to finish up on a summers evening!
We definitely need more excuses for get togethers! Strip it all back and make it about the people there, should be a great weekend if all goes to plan.

Exactly, it will be a good contrast to makers central because I think we all felt we missed people and didn't get a chance to chat to everyone we wanted to etc. It's all about not excluding anyone!

Lol I’ve spoken to about 3-4 different people since Maker central each wanting to organise something like this separately.
Next time I speak to somebody who does, I’m going to give them a slap and tell them to talk to you.
To those who doubt you can pull this off on your own - well they are right maybe but I can tell you with some fervour that you won’t be alone; you have hundred of people who will help you (including myself) to make this work and it will be awesome! 😎
The more events the better I think! We all leave get togethers feeling down because of it being so long until the next one so the more we have the better 🙌
I know its a big undertaking but what ai have planned should be pretty straight forward. Emphasis on SHOULD! Haha its because of the amazing people in the community that Im confident about it. We could all be together in an empty room and it would still be amazing

Hi joe. Good idea. Was good to meet you at MC. I like your idea on this one. If you take a look at a show called “the Bushcraft show” in Derby. They have everything you need at that venue. Camping and fields etc. Let me know what you think. Cheers

This is exactly what Rich and I had in mind when we chatted with you last year, but we never got further than looking for a venue (some good ones near us btw) We had hoped to revive the idea for next year, but super stoked that you are running with this 😃 now we can really enjoy it instead of having to organise it 😂
Looking at comments its seems there is quite a few others planning events haha the more the merrier! Waiting a whole hear between get togethers isnt ideal. We all leave events feeling glum knowing the next one is so far away. The more events the better 🙌

Thanks mate! We have an amazing community filled with amazing people. There is no way Id want anyone to feel as if they cant attend. I myself would be unable to stay in a tent due to my condition so Other accommodation options is a must
I understand. Between my crutches and the wheelchair, I could stay in a tent, but it would make life difficult.

I'd figure 1-200 people, an actual campsite would be a struggle before next year. I've got contacts for portaloos/shower cubicles, if we can find someone with a large flat field with a water supply it would be a reasonably easy private event. The headache is funding it, as if we "sell" tickets it becomes a public event and we need security, h&s, insurance, bar licences etc. I've got contacts for those too but the costs start to mount up at that point. Feel free to give me a shout Joe this is firmly in my skill set.
Id hope it could happen in the summer of 2020 but if needs longer then of course If have to do that. I dont want to run it as an organised event even though it basically is. Nothing will be organised in terms of demosC stalls, food, drink ect. Its literally we’re going to be here, come along if you want. My plan to make sure its only us there is to agree with a site owner to use a code when booking. That way only those using the code can book. I really appreciate any and all help mate.

Hi great idea, I would definitely attend I would say that the Midlands would be good as it is central for everyone to travel perhaps you could get someone or a company to sponsor it. Nice to have a chat on the stand you was on 👍😀
Brilliant! Thanks Ray! Location is key, definitely needs to be easy to get to for everyone. As it stands I dont believe we need any cash upfront but if seems to be heading that way then I will see what people prefer. A sponsor is always possible

YES!...MC was totally about people and the maker community, this would be fantastic...definitely up for it...if I can help in any way let me know...location, somewhere central so easy to get to from all UK and good access to airports for our worldwide friends...I cant tell you how excited I am about this....
Brilliant!! Thanks mate! Location is definitely key. Ive touched base with a few sites already so will be whittling down those that are suitable and best placed geographically.
Being a motorcyclists... I would look at where they have their bike rallies... to see if there is one suitable... (I use to go to them all here in NZ) and some of them were at the showgrounds of smaller towns so you had access to to the village pub and shopping for supplies as well as having your hotels and camping for those that want camping...
Another idea is scot camps and village halls etc most usually have the room out the back to set up camp.
Just a thought...

Loving the sound of this joe... after makers central we were left feeling a bit empty, it is the people that make makers central not the stalls, that’s the beauty about your idea, bring the people together, we had a similar idea ourselves, if you need any help with anything then just give us a shout, the maker community can make this work surely...! 👍🏻😊
Exactly! Its the people that make these events what they are. So lets focus on them! All and any help is much appreciated mate! Im currently sorting a venue so thats the first task haha

Sounds like a great idea, the one thing that was missing from Makers Central was the ability to spend much time mingling with ther Makers, there was too much else to see.

A festival sounds fun! Have you considered that young Makers May be interested in attending?
The plan is to have it open to everyone. We have so many amazing young makers it would be great to have them attend with their families 🙌
Sounds like an awesome idea . I could speak to someone and have it running in conjunction with a music festival. The area is nice and flat and secluded. It also has a bar and would be an amazing event with well known bands . If you are interested I can talk to the organiser and pass your details on.

My thinking is we would need other accommodation options other than tents as we have a lot of people in the community who are unable to stay in a tent, myself included. Id really appreciate if you could pass on my details though as they may have an idea of how to sort that too

Quite a few people have been having the same talks haha I think it shows how much we all want it. The more events the better though. We currently leave these events feeling down because its so long to wait for the next one. The more get togethers going on the more we have to look forward to 🙌
Well up for this mate. We do some work for a farm owner local to me in Baston, Peterborough. She has a field she normally uses to host events like car shows etc. It is just land, no electricity hook ups, log cabins etc so would be camping in tents but I could have a word and put the idea over if your interested?
Thanks Dean! While a fully tented event would be great it would also exclude a lot of people so if I can Id like to find somewhere that can cater to more options of accommodation. I really appreciate the offer though. It really is invaluable to have people who know sites and locations first hand

As much as this sounds like a great idea I think you have massively underestimated the time, resources money and effort that will need to be put into something such as this, for demos, live music and fires you'll need licenses and it wont come cheap.
There isnt any way I could organise an event that has all of those things. Thats why Im not. There wont be any demos, stalls or live music organised. A lot of campsites thankfully allow for fires and are insured accordingly. If people want to bring something along its up to them. If someone brings a guitar to play and sing, its up to them. We all love getting together but until someone organises it, its unlikely to happen. So Im getting the wheel rolling.
