Hi Joe, thank you for posting this video and for your absolute sincerity. One of your many gifts that stand out is your ability to communicate with excellence in front of a camera, I have tried this and it extremely difficult but you have always made it look easy. I am a Christian and I will be praying for you Joe that God would give you successful outcomes in all your treatment. I have had 2 severe nervous breakdowns in my life so I know life can be tough sometimes. I love your positive attitude and the fact you struggle with these problems yet you can reach out to others to help them is a really lovely attribute of your character. You have also spent many years helping others by sharing your skills and discoveries with the world. I just want to say, thank you so much and I pray you will experience optimal health going forward. You are an inspiration!! I just wanted to add, I have lived in Scotland since age 5 but I was actually born in Birmingham!! I spent my early childhood there and had a Brummy accent like yours. They are memories I will never forget even though I was just a young child.😊
G’day Joe, mate you addressed your health issues with so much dignity & grace & I applaud you for absolute honesty. It seems as you’ve battled harder than most & still have a fight ahead but keep being resilient & pushing forwards to get you healthy. Cheers Sumo
Praying for you, bro. Fellow Crohn's sufferer here. After 2 laparotomies in 2yrs I at least have 1.6m of my small bowel (started with about 7m) and two thirds of my large bowel left. I'm lucky and every day is a gift. Day at a time dealing with this shyte. Keep the faith tho!!
Ahh I’m sorry to hear that mate! It’s a huge change going from 7m down to 1.6m! It’s got to have been a rough few years going through those ops. Hope you’re doing well now 🤞 I always think the bad days just make the good days even better. Got to keep pushing for those good days 💪
@@AverageJoesJoinery Absolutely! That feeling of driving home after being discharged from hospital... Nothing beats it! It's been a rough ride since my diagnosis in 2017 but God is good all the time. oh my gosh joe I had absolutely no idea, all I know is you are one fab guy! and a very talented woodworker! if there is ever anything I can help with, just give me a shout -millsy x
Thanks for the update Joe. I assumed that it was your health that was keeping you away. I had notice you saying that Birmingham Children’s Hospital was close to your heart and now I fully understand why. I also noticed that you have raised money for them. So with all this in mind, having spoken to you at Makers Central (magenta T-shirt), I came up with a way that between us we could raise some money for the hospital. Obviously I haven’t mentioned it before now because I knew your health was “not at its best”. So when you are ready, give me a shout and we’ll see what you think of my idea. Keep smiling and hopefully you’ll be doing cartwheels and backflips very soon. All the best, Steve.

Joe - well what can I say that others probably have already said, we all miss your content when it isn't here and I'm sure we all worry about you because there is an understanding that you have health problems. Good man for not liking the x-factor type of fawning about problems. Hi joe, Thanks for been so open about your health issues you have in your life . Hopefully you have better health in future. All the best with your channel
Hello from Chicago USA. I found your channel today via your review of the Triton planer and I was impressed enough to subscribe. I was expecting woodworking vids when I came across this. Anyway, thoughts and prayers coming your way and I hope we can progress together from average joe woodworkers to master craftsmen. I look forward to more content from you for many years to come.
For whatever things might be “wrong” with Joe, they pale into insignificance against the many, many things that’s “right” with him. From what we see of you, you’re a top fella.
An inspiring story Joe, and in no way a sob story, you're a brave man in both what you've gone through but also for sharing it, so thanks ! I came here having just caught up with the "Handmade" series you were in, a bit late to the party but subscribed now ! Wishing you well Joe !
Hi Joe, just watched your vid whilst in the Krankenhaus..and looking at the vid with the feed tube. I could not stand the smell/taste of plastic so when I had my second Op on the throat I opted for the peg in the stomach..it was much better as it was just plug and play whilst sleeping 😂. Clearly a great positive attitude, keep it up
Thanks mate! The feeding tubes are awful aren’t they 🤢 It’s the feeling like there is always something stuck in your throat that gets me 😂 I usually end up on a pic line. Never had the peg before. Hope you’re keeping well!
@@AverageJoesJoinery hi Joe, yes doing well. However, just back in hospital to complete the same biopsy as the results where not clear. But hey been doing this every three months now for three years. If you ever have to go through the Op again get them to show and discuss the peg option. Basically the tube is fitted to your tummy and when not in use you just unhook. I found it better.. But keep up the positive and take things day by day.. Remember the doc telling me that having Cancer sucks, but but if you got to pick one then throat cancer is the best one to have. Remember cooking and siting down for Xmas dinner in the first year. All the family sitting down to turkey etc and me…. Plug and play and saying to them all …, hope you choke on it lol 😂😂. Have a great one Joe
You are a truly beautiful human joe. I truly hope you do get on with the new job and everything works and great for you. All the very best from me to you mate👍
Mark, that’s incredibly kind of you to say ❤️ Thank you! The new job is going great thankfully. Will have to show some of the bits I’ve been up to at some point 😊
Joe, I bet all these amazing comments is making you cringe, but you deserve ALL the love and positivity! You’re such a talented person and more importantly than that, just a great guy. Thank you for sharing this so eloquently, and I know you don’t want the “aw I’m so sorry”, but it must be so tough on you, and you take it all in your stride incredibly. I’m sure any videos and projects you produce on the channel will be brilliant, just like they always are. 🙌 Big love mate ❤
It’s incredibly humbling mate! ❤️ This channel has got me through some incredibly tough times. I just people know how much it all means. Everyone has different stuff to deal with, just got to crack on with things and live life to the fullest. Looking forward to our next catch up 💪❤️
Hope everything turns out well, I got diagnosed with bowel disease when I was 43, turned my life upside down still a struggle but hopefully get my stoma reversed soon had it 2 years in a cple weeks. Keep positive look after your self, videos are just a bonus 👌
Sorry to hear you’ve been suffering too mate! Got to have been incredibly hard to have it impact you later in life. Will keep my fingers crossed your reversal can happen soon and goes well 🤞 ❤️
What's more worrying is that you need a coaster for that pint glass.... Thank you for the update, hope 2023 is an excellent year for you and your channel
All the best Joe. My partner has Crohn's & colitis they tried her on Humira and it ended up giving her crippling back pain and other strange side effects. It sounds like the success rate isnt that high with that one. In the end She had to have the whole lot removed and has a stoma bag now but it has changed her life completely thankfully. She's very much like you no fuss just gets on. So wishing you all the best!
Thanks Rich! 🙏❤️ Sorry to hear you’re partner has had to go through all that. So much harder when the meds designed help just make you worse. Glad to hear she’s doing much better now! 💪
Joe, you are so eloquent in telling your story - thank you for sharing. Offering to help others is so generous and heartfelt. Good luck with the battle 👍
Thanks Nigel! Thats very kind of you to say 🙏❤️ I know that tough times can feel like you’re on your own and even though others can’t waive a magic wand having someone to talk to or have a rant can make a big difference ❤️
Bro! I've been watching your videos since probably about 2015, always loved your videos and even more your cool personality. Wishing you the best with your health in 2023 from Florida USA.
What a great video Joe, Thankyou for sharing your story, I’m sure it was tough to do but i’m certain it will help support many with similar challenges. Wishing you a great 2023 👍👍👍
thanks for this, I hope those struggling will see this and it serve's to encourage them to seek help. Nice to highlight your issues and to mention those that helped rather than lay blame. Good luck young sir maybe we should all wear "pink" on a given day to show our support (it really is "pink" you know). Bless you for your openness
Thanks mate! Medicine and findings move on so quickly I think it’s inevitable for some things to have been done better. But at the time, it was the best they knew. Really appreciate all your support 🙏❤️ It’s still Magenta though 😉
Absolutely not a sob storie, you told it a such a great manner, class and respected. You're a good man, and im sorry there's so many struggles on the path.. hopefully with family and love around you (a good job helps too) you can stay the course and stay healthy. Fingers crossed you will get sorted. So much suffering but you came to be such a fantastic person. I wish you good health and strong spirit. All the best mate
Eyup Joe, you probably don't remember (or even remember me) but I remember having a conversation with you about your health a few years ago. Great to see you still at it and staying strong! You look great, keep your chin up and look forward to seeing more of you mate 👍👍👍
Honest and genuine Joe, the day to day of life limiting conditions is tough and relentless and often invisible to others. I am sorry for the pain you endure and wish you well for 2023. Courage and compassion in action my friend
Thanks mate! 🙏❤️ We really struggle to open about our stumbling blocks in life. While no one can often help with things, simply getting them off your chest can make a huge difference. Knowing that you can talk to like minded people will hopefully be of help 💪

Great video Joe, very brave of you to divulge the details of your medical issues. Of course we knew there was something wrong as you have eluded to in the past. It’s great that you do as much as you can when you are feeling better. Don’t forget that we’re you UA-cam family. If there’s anything that you want or need give us a shout out. I do sympathise as I have an autoimmune condition, Relapsing Polychondritis , I have to take Methotrexate, which is a immune suppressant. It’s very rate, as you say you have to get on with it. Take care Joe.
Really appreciate that, Jerry! Thank you 🙏❤️ Making videos and interacting with you all has got me through some incredibly tough times. I can’t thank you enough!
Hey buddy, just come across your channel today and been going through your videos. You have a real skill in presentation of information, very enjoyable to watch. I think your personality resonates through and can tell you are a good bloke with a big heart. I guess given you haven't made videos for a while now you are going through an episode with your health as you described. Just wanted to say that I hope you get back on your feet soon. All the best, a new subscriber.
My niece's have both been under Birmingham children's hospital, they've been great for them. Thanks for the video Joe. I always enjoy your videos and projects, regardless of how often they come out. Keep on keeping on mate.
Thanks mate 🙏❤️ Birmingham Children’s Hospital do amazing work! I was always humbled to see how kids going through incredible hardships just get on with things. Truly inspiring
This is 100 the right way to do this kind of video. I know this was hard to do but thank you for your courage and strength to make this video. We love you and pray that your new meds help a ton.
I feel you Joe. Had an inkling it might be something like that. My son has suffered from Crohn's and colitis since he was 6 so I know the amazing work and effort the children's hospitals put in (was Bristol for us). Like you he soldiers on and just deals with the flare ups as they come. They certainly knock you off your feet when your having a bad one so all kudos to you. People in the public eye like yourself really help other sufferers and are beacon of "if they can do it, so can I". You're an inspiration so keep it going! And thank you for letting us into what is a very personal and private affliction. Shout out to your parents too, it's not great to spend that much time in hospital with one of your children.
Thanks mate! That really means a lot 🙏❤️ I’m sorry to hear your Son is going through it too! It certainly gives you a different perspective on things. There are certainly a lot of down days but they just make the good days even better. Just got to keep pushing for those good days ❤️
There's another UA-camr that I follow suffering from the same thing. Jeff Geerling. He's just had major surgery and talks from his hospital bed. You both have my sympathy.
Thanks mate! 🙏❤️ I’ll have to check out his channel! It can be really helpful hearing how other people are getting on and coping with what life throws their way
I always knew you were a badass, but I didn't know just how much of a badass you are! Thanks for sharing! Means a lot! Your attitude, positive outlook and care for others are truly inspiring to see. Best wishes! Hope the new medication will do wonders for you ❤
Sounds like it's been a rough journey for you, I just wanted to say, I have ME, POTS, and some other stuff, and seeing you on Handmade inspired me to get my first set of chisels and pick up a hobby I've always thought looked interesting. Hope things go well with the new treatment
Sorry to hear you’ve got all that to deal with Alistair! I hope you’re able to manage it all 💪 It means the world to know I helped inspire you to get into the hobby. It’s a medication in itself haha great to get your mind off things 🙏❤️
@@AverageJoesJoinery as you said in the video, we all have to play the hand we're dealt. I'm still pretty rubbish at getting my cuts at the right angles and knowing how the wood will react, but hopefully with a lot more practice I'll be making things for around the house in no time. Before I got ME I was a software engineer and when I was stuck on a really hard problem that didn't seem to make sense I'd think to myself "why didn't I become a carpenter or something, where you can see your problems and touch them". How the tables have turned 🤣
That sort of thing is always a headache when you first start but it will be second nature in no time 💪 It just shows that there is always stumbling blocks to be found, big difference when it’s something you enjoy though 👌

Thats incredibly kind of you to say mate, thank you! 🙏❤️
Sorry to hear your situation Joe. I wish you all the best in the future. Keep up the good work my friend
Thanks Phil! 🙏❤️ That really means a lot mate
Great video Joe, all the best! ❤️
Thanks mate! 🙏❤️
I wish you all the best in the future Joe. You have the gift of being a great bloke.
Thank you.
Thanks Andy! 🙏❤️ Thats very kind of you to say mate
Great video Joe. Hope you get this in a more manageable position soon enough. Take care bud!
Fingers crossed haha Thanks mate! 🙏❤️ I really appreciate it
An inspiring story Joe, and in no way a sob story, you're a brave man in both what you've gone through but also for sharing it, so thanks !
@@AverageJoesJoinery only saying what I see joe. I’m so glad it’s going good mate.
Look forward to seeing any of the stuff you put up😊👍
Joe, I bet all these amazing comments is making you cringe, but you deserve ALL the love and positivity!

Lmao 🤣 I know! It’s on my list. Gonna make a mini drip tray coaster haha Happy New Year mate! 🙏❤️
@@AverageJoesJoinery thanks Joe, and yourself take care and I wish you all the best health possible!

Thanks Nigel! Thats very kind of you to say 🙏❤️ I know that tough times can feel like you’re on your own and even though others can’t waive a magic wand having someone to talk to or have a rant can make a big difference ❤️

Thanks Graham! It feels like a real weight off 🙏❤️ Hopefully it can be help to other that are struggling too. There is light at the end of the tunnel
thanks for this, I hope those struggling will see this and it serve's to encourage them to seek help.

Honest and genuine Joe, the day to day of life limiting conditions is tough and relentless and often invisible to others. I am sorry for the pain you endure and wish you well for 2023. Courage and compassion in action my friend

You are a breath of fresh air Jo. Wishing you well. Such a warm thing to offer is a listening ear. Total respect for you.
Thanks mate! 🙏❤️ We really struggle to open about our stumbling blocks in life. While no one can often help with things, simply getting them off your chest can make a huge difference. Knowing that you can talk to like minded people will hopefully be of help 💪
Joe, what a beautiful elegantly articulated video. Brilliantly put together video and you continue to inspire everyday mate. Wishing you all the best health for 2023, the compact mirror project sounds exciting!
Thanks mate! I really appreciate your support 🙏❤️ Hope you had a great new year!!

What a great outlook you have Joe, your an inspiration. Loving your videos.
Thanks Max! That really means a lot 🙏❤️
I'm amazed how cherpy you are, I have friends with chrones so know how painful and debilitating it can be, you have such a great outlook, keep doing the videos when you can :-)
Thanks mate! 🙏❤️ I just think, when things are beyond our control we just have to crack on with things. The bad days just make the good days even better

Hey Joe, thought this was probably the best comments section to wish you well, so I hope you're able to get up an at em soon 💪
This is 100 the right way to do this kind of video. I know this was hard to do but thank you for your courage and strength to make this video. We love you and pray that your new meds help a ton.
Thanks Caleb! That really means a lot 🙏❤️ It feels like a weight off to be honest.
Best wishes Joe
Thanks mate! 🙏❤️
Happy new year mate, all the best buddy
Happy New Year mate! 🙏❤️ Thanks you!
mate, all the best and take it easy
Thanks mate! 🙏❤️
There's another UA-camr that I follow suffering from the same thing. Jeff Geerling. He's just had major surgery and talks from his hospital bed. You both have my sympathy.
Thanks mate! 🙏❤️ I’ll have to check out his channel! It can be really helpful hearing how other people are getting on and coping with what life throws their way
Take care, buddy.

That sort of thing is always a headache when you first start but it will be second nature in no time 💪
It just shows that there is always stumbling blocks to be found, big difference when it’s something you enjoy though 👌
Get better!
Thanks Jim! 🙏❤️
Your a strong man Joe!
