I've loved my Hornet ever since I got her. She isn't a ship that's not for everyone, but I've found that it's my favorite carrier that I've ever had. Glad you took another look at the ship to see how it really is :D
To be fair, most reviews I've read about her were unfavorable. Still, I was going to get her anyway for her history, and nothing I saw in the replays made me think otherwise: she has good plane regeneration, decent torps and AP bombers, and those B-25 can really mess up some ships depending on the deck plating. Sometimes I think reviewers just want to be contrarians...
The ap bombers are still very inconsistent, the torp bombers give damage comparable to kaga, and the B25s are absolute monsters provided it doesnt get shredded by flak in a double uptier. Horny is pretty ok tbh, it’s biggest fault besides the ap bombers are slow planes, but that’s just an american thing.

Not really. Hornet’s reserves are nowhere near kaga level, and kaga’s plane restore time is abysmal. While her torp bombers are T6, her AP bombers are stock lexington planes. Honestly I think hornet’s way less consistent than kaga, but is still a decent option unlike a few of the other premium T8 CVs (graf, saipan, and indomitable)
Glad you gave hornet another shot. She is certinly not a "OVERPOWERED" Premium, but she is fun. The torpedos are your main damage source, the AP bombs.....yeah their finicky as hell, you'll get a couple citadels out of them but don't expect much. THE B 25 MICHELS, are quite the SLEDGE HAMMER if you bomb something that has less then 43mms of deck armor. (god thats such a WIERD number) I remember bombing a Carrier perfectly with the B25s and i CHUNKED 1/3rd of their HP off in a single STRIKE.

Kaga is much worse against DDs, in my experience: Hornet can drop them with torps from much closer, plus the Mitchells are a lot more reliable than the Kaga's dive bombers, even though you have to wait for them.

tbh the things that gets on my nerve is that SBD dauntless does level bombing instead of dive bombing. I'm also hope that Hornet could get TBF avenger in the future.
I bought Chkalov and Hornet in a same time and even so I was worried about hornet, I bought it as a replacement for Enterprise in the matter of appearance... However surprisingly in the end I ejoy and deal more damage in Hornet than Chkalov even so I am actually, I would say experienced Soviet CV player and never touched the US ones..

Hornets planes are gimped around the b25 gimmick. Overall Kaga and Chkalov are still the 2 best cvs in T8. Edit: I said in game instead of t8. I didn't think about the cvs above.

Tbh. Hornet is quite insane when it comes to damage. One decent B25 bomb can literally deletes any ship HPs. Atleast 20K per 2 mins. Due to how WeeGee coding works. Means the B25 start the cooldown when you launched it. Not to mentioned 5 Torps per attack making her quite annoying to deal with. Oh and B25 is literally impossible to shot down if enemy Hornet have atleast 2 braincells.

I see enemy fuso. approace it from bow with bombers, got 2 ricochee the opposite side of ship. Trying it again this time from side, ricochee and non-pene. Trying it for 3rd time 30 degree angle from aft, got 2k pene and ricochee.

Have we not figured out by now that Carrier's have no place in warship battles. If you wanted to fly around like tinkerbell you can play war thunder. Hiding on maps edge spaming waves of garbage makes the game boring as faq
Got to say, I'm kind of with the KGV player in chat. 20k salvos that he can do nothing to prevent. He can't angle, he can't dodge (I'm not sure how anyone JustDodge(TM)'s that B25 flight) and he can't prevent the attack... He just has to sit there and take it, because WG need that 8% player base. The one tempting thing about Subs is that CV's have no counterplay to subs (yet) so they can potentially give CV players a taste of their own 'fun'.

Having started the carriers again, I have to ask what T8 CV is good? Started the Lexington 1-2 weeks ago and it has been a miserable experience on every level. I liked the carriers before the change.

I don't like the Hornet at all. The planes are way to slow and easy to kill,, and don't even do a lot of damage and the tactical squad is a plain joke. The fire bomby spread all over the place, being completely worthless. Not my kind of carrier
i prefer dropping straight more dmg, look dropping dipersion so cool... hornet dropping side hull less dmg and spend like 1k-8k rather this dropping straight more dmg around 12k - 24k

Also... the aspect of ship vs ship loses it's meaning. It can to a certain degree also be said about DDs, but they always go the risk of being spotted. Either by DD, radar or CVs. If so happens they can die in seconds. The CV-class only needs to park behind an island with no need to care about juking shells, angling the ships etc.
The only reason the game is going down hill is the ever increasing amount of 45% WR halfwits that insist on playing PVP game modes. CVs are not more toxic than HE spammers, island huggers or Petropavlosks.

I use my B-25s to decimate destroyers. knocked a Holland for 18.6k damage. It was so satisfying.
Shes still no Match for Kaga, Chkalov and all the other big dogs at T8

Idk what hornet you got, but mine dunks on anything with the ap bombers. Specially cruisers never had an over pen, one of the two a miss or a strike

Hornet feels like a tier 7 carrier than tier8, wg missed a chance in bringing back odd number cvs.
I‘m glad they did. so i can atleast have cv free games in a full t7 setup.
Hornet is great. Is she the best? No. But she is a top Teir 8 cv. Especially because you can half HP or nuke a dd 😄
