    I don't mind 1080p screens, I have the white OnePlus 6 and this screen is fantastic, I've never thought a phone needed anything over 1080p. I will take battery life over a 2k screen any day.

      Yup, I totally hear ya. for me, after using higher resolution displays for SO long, switching to the OP6 was a bit of an eye opener.

      DJW 1981 how many hours of screen on time do you usually get? Would you say It is at the level of p20 pro?

      DJW 1981 You might have never seen a Samsung display. Battery life isn’t a real issue everyone has electricity access. And every phone has fast charging

      Really, it's pretty hard to see more than 400 ppi. It's a mistake to call this a "1080p" screen without acknowledging it's also a 19:9 screen that's like 2.8" wide, and that the vertical res is like 2280. The resolution is plenty (except for VR, as Mike B pointed out, but since this doesn't support Daydream that's sort of a moot point).

    About the resolution.
    Do you really think going higher than 1080p is anything other than an unneeded marketing improvement? Most people still watch TV in 1080p (most channels are not even 1080p) on such a huge screen, do we really need that extra pixel density on such a small screen? I never felt the need for a higher res screen than 1080p on a phone, not even on my computer monitor. For me, it's just a waste of battery life (which is already a weakness of smartphones), and hardware power. I currently use the OnePlus 3 and it still performs great after 2 years, would it perform so great if it had a 2k screen resolution with the 2yr old hardware and new software? Not too sure about that.
    Even when I used a Galaxy S7 Edge for a few days, I switched to 1080p because the small difference it makes doesn't justify the power and battery life loss for me.
    Not saying it's good to say no to technological improvement, but I do think there are more important factors to improve in smartphones than pixel density. Several years had passed since the birth of the smartphone, and battery life is still crap in most devices. (Again: my OnePlus 3 does 1,5 days with heavy usage, many calls, much social media, some youtube, would it be able to do that with a 2k display?) That's something we should improve rather than having small displays with multiple times your TV's resolution killing battery life and future-proofing.

    So I've been used the OP6 and I don't get the speaker "complaints". I expected it to suck but from my experience it is loud and clear. Head and shoulders about other phones I've had. I compared it to others in store and Samsung wasn't any louder just had the extra speaker through the earpiece like. something I suspect the XDA group will add to the OP6 eventually. The LG G7 is the only meaningful speaker advancement I've seen with the chamber inside but that has other negative effects. I also don't get how ppl block the speaker. If you are going to 1 hand hold it, just flip it the other way so the speaker is facing away from your hand. How hard it that?
    As for the screen being 1080p. I don't care. Most ppl I know with S9 and other high res screen phones have it set to 1080p for the battery life. I can't tell a bit of difference on a phone anyway and could care less.
    I want OnePlus to give me a 4000mah battery first.

    • @ThatForeignBloke
      @ThatForeignBloke 6 років тому +1

      I have to agree with you. I was worried about the speaker from all the Tech-tubers but honestly I find it to be fine. Most of the time I use headphones anyway as I am in public places when consuming content on my phone. Same goes for the display. I was a little worried but to be honest I don't really see any major difference. In fact I think the display is good. Overall, I am very pleased with the OP6 and the only feature lacking for me it's the ability to automatically block anonymous calls. That feature was available on nearly all the phones I have owned previously.

    2k 4k displays are nothing but hype. Sony has made a 4k display on Xperia phone then who really uses it. Science study says human eye cannot really see the pixel difference in 4k. If one plus makes the same display again next year and say qhd on the box, ppl will love it. You might notice a slight difference in 60 80 inch televisions with real pixel peeping, but in 6 inch phone display!?? Come on!

    I don't understand the hate on 1080p displays. Remember those sharp retina displays that apple used, and still uses on the iPhone 8? I think that display is more than adequately sharp, and it only has 326 ppi. These 1080p displays have over 400 ppi, so I really don't see an issue here. I actually appreciate the fact that they drain less battery than the likes of Samsung's ridiculous 570 ppi panels on the S9.

      For the stereo speakers, I agree, it's still a phone, but a phone with a better sound than the other ones with their single bottom speaker (the G7 is the only exception though)
      And having stereo speakers still allows you to use headphones ;)

    I do agree with the display comment. 1080p at this size is fine if it's an LCD, but AMOLED needs higher ppi to hide the display structure. Switching from my iPhone 7 Plus to there OnePlus 6, the iPhone panel looks sharper.

    I changed my Huawei P10 Plus for a Oneplus 6, with respect to the resolution of the screen, in my P10 I always used it in FHD, so, the battery lasted much longer and the difference between resolutions was almost imperceptible.

    I actually think 1080p is the right call. It helps the performance and battery life more than it hurts the image quality, in my opinion. Remember, while it's 6.3", it's 19:9. The thing is pretty narrow and the res the long way is 2280, so the PPI is still over 400. It's basically retina resolution. Sacrificing performance and battery for a spec-sheet feature that most people can't see isn't smart design. This seems less like corner-cutting than smart, efficient design choices to me.

    Nice review! I have a Samsung S7 for a year and a half and I have to say I'm pretty pleased by this phone, is a great all rounder, great camera, wireless charging, is waterproof and also has a great display, battery life is decent. I thought about One plus for a long time but it doesn't seem to keep up with flagships phone, I mean the 1080p display, no wireless charging, no waterproof, camera not that good, many compromises to be made there, I will never settle with a One Plus 6 yet ;)

  • @streetspirit956
    @streetspirit956 6 років тому

    I hope they continue with a 1080p display. You simply don’t need a higher resolution on a screen that size. 1080p is crystal clear. A higher resolution is barely noticeable in terms of screen quality and just drains the battery quicker. I much prefer 1080p and a longer battery life.

      It's incredibly insulting, actually. As if being paid for sex is the dumbest choice of work anyone can make. You're just encouraging lame stereotypes and you really should stop. As if reeling in viewers (/money) with jokes like this isn't low. The best comedy is at nobody's expense, remember that.

    • @Alexander0189
      @Alexander0189 6 років тому

      Sam Flynn there's much worse things happening in the world than a simple comment like what Jared made in his video. Comedians for decades have been successful involving stereotypes about all different sorts of people. Just see the funny side and move on.

    • @samflynn97
      @samflynn97 6 років тому +4

      That depends on how you define success. I'm not claiming it always fails, I'm claiming that there's always a weight that comes with it. People doing worse things isn't an excuse for not working on bad habits. A single comment like this is less like to prevent someone from getting murdered, but it can make Jared be more careful about what he shares with millions of people which is worth the attempt, wouldn't you agree?

    I have a OP6. I think that 1080p is good enough for now, I think that the only way to notice it is putting the phone next to a S9+ or similar. It wouldn't put me off buying another phone next year if the rest of the package is as good. I think that OnePlus makes great value phones. There are always competitors offering similar features for the same price, but I still think it's one of the best values around.

  • @dragos-lucian
    @dragos-lucian 6 років тому

    The screen is really good but not as sharp as it should be. I can actually see the pixels if I look at it closely. For instance, while playing a video on UA-cam, if you look closely at the red bubble on the progress bar, you'll see that the edge of the bubble is really not smooth at all because of the lack of sharpness or the pixels are not small enough.
    BUT in day to day use, the screen is pretty good and considering that people will most likely not stare at it searching for defects, they'll be pleased with it.

  • @danielc4267
    @danielc4267 6 років тому

    I actually don't care much about having a 1440p display. It uses more battery and slows down performance. I can only spot the difference when I look really carefully.

    I'm going on my third week with the OP6 and I will say that this phone is impressive! Coming from a Nexus 6P it was time for an upgrade.
    The phone is super fast and I haven't had one problem with battery life. As far as the swipe gestures, it took me 3 days to get it down pack and been using it ever since.
    Speaker is a let down a little but I knew that going in when buying the phone and the screen is excellent to me probably the best 1080 screen on the market to be honest.
    No phone is perfect and I knew the flaws going in so I'm really happy with this phone and understand why One Plus has hardcore fans....

    Absolutely fine with 1080p screen. Been using 1080p mode on my S7E since day one. Higher res screen is the one detail that phones don't really need. Other being too thin.
    If I do switch phones, OnePlus 6 is currently looking like the main contender. Just not sure if the camera is actually better than the S7 from two years ago.

  • @brentsw3

    Got a silk white, love the phone to bits. Been a OP convert since the launch of the 3T. Must agree the 6 is missing some key features such as wireless charging, quad HD screen, stereo speakers and official IP rating but I think it's a compromise well worth it considering the price point. I appreciate the trade offs they've made IE would I be prepared to pay at extra $10 for an official IP rating? Not really. I'm happy with their claim that the phone would survive most mild encounters with h2o. In any event I try to avoid mixing electronics with moisture. Just call me old fashioned. Not really sure about the whole wireless charging debate. DASH is so quick and efficient and I consider wireless charging a complete gimmick. Maybe I just don't consider plugging in a charger as big of a inconvenience as some might. Dual speaker would come in handy but if it meant a price increase of say $20? Mmmmm.... Would I swap FHD screen and 6 hours of SOT for a QUAD HD screen and 4 hours SOT? Not so sure. The screen brightness, sharpness and vibrancy is as good as any QUAD HD I've seen. I would pay an extra $50 if it meant flagship beating camera optics though. But they'd need to guarantee it. I'm talking DxoMark 110, P20 Pro, PixelXL2 rivaling performance... Anyway nice review... keep it up... that's what she said...

    Well since all of the videos i watch are online and that 90% are not in 4K (I'm in Europe maybe it's different in the US) I don't see the use of a 4K display for now. So as long as 1080p will be the standard in youtube and internet in general OnePlus can stick to the 1080p in my opinion.

    I hate when reviewers say a product rivals another much more expensive product but dont say which ones. Especially reviewers who arent afraid to say poop, etc on camera.

    Don't care about the 1080p, I actually prefer. Saves battery and better performance. I honestly can't tell the difference. As long as they use a good 1080p panel I'm fine (:

    its much sensible to go with very good 1080p oled screen, than an inferior 2k one. so yes if Oneplus comes with a very good 1080p oled next year i would still buy it.

    I can tell you spent a great amount of time reading comments on other and your own review videos. You're videos are sarcastically funny since they tend to bitch slap the negative trolls out there before they even start to think of what to write on the comments section lol. Love it! So glad I subscribed to you 😉

    I use a 6 inch screen with 1080p and I think it's fine. Because it helps with battery life a lot.
    Great beard. For some reason, you reminds me more and more a French thief in a Hanna-Barbera cartoon. For some crazy reason (blame my childhood somehow, haha)

    I prefer the 6t, I know the removable of the headphone jack, huh? But at least T-Mobile handles it & works on the Verizon network! Plus 7hrs of screen on time, yes?

    Great review, Jared. Informative and funny!
    I personally don't mind 1080p resolution now or in the next gen OnePlus device, as long VR for consumers hasn't become the next big thing. I prefer battery life over more pixels.

    Hi there. I saw both of your videos regarding OP6 and Mate 10 Pro and it looks like you liked them a lot. Can you pick one of them, based on the fact that in my country right now, as a new phone, Mate 10 Pro is 640€ and OP6 is 570€? The difference is just 70€ which is not that much. Thank you very much for the help.

    The OP6's 2880 x 1920 is way better than the iPhone 7/8 Plus. And it's way cheaper. Also, Pixel XL 2 display has that horrible blue tint thing going on. So i think it's display is quite great.

  • @mentality1204

    1+ needs to step their display resolution up. 1080p in 2018 is really not acceptable.

    there are many phones like op6 with same specs etc. Oneplus is no longer special rly. The only reason one should consider to buy this phone is bcuz of custom roms support and rooting easy-ness(you can do it blindfolded)

    I use the gestures on the OnePlus 6 daily, they're really good actually.
    Also, I'm good with the 1080p display.
    Apple's been doing 750p since the iPhone 6, wonder why nobody gives a fuck to their poor decision.

    Still using 1080p PC screens. So 1080p on my phone is not important. I'd rather have better battery and performance in return
