I really appreciate this video and the term meta era didn't really show up until stuff like the Sonic Boom TV show and Forces became a thing and back before those games were even a thing Sonic was on a consistent and good track record with games like Colors and Generations in the early 2010s. I don't use the term dark age or Meta because they feel more like insulting terms to use when people talk about games like Shadow, 06, Boom, and Forces. You don't really see a divide in era talk when it comes to other franchises like Zelda, Mario, Kirby, or even Mega Man for that matter. The Sonic fanbases is so toxic and divided that they don't know how to think. I still enjoy Sonic as a franchise but it's difficult to talk about with this mindset. Good video and I love your content
The problem with complaining about Fandoms, I have never heard about half of these fans. Never heard of anyone praising Sonic and the Secret Rings, never heard of anyone refer to the 2010s Sonic as "the Meta era". It all depends on how online you are, and how you interact with other (annoying) people. Hell, it might be only one or two people you've seen say those things, but its enough for you to think there's chunks of the fanbase who think like that. My advice, don't look at Twitter comments as much and use discord less, and only interact with the normal Sonic fans. A rare breed these days, but they're out there. Would love to see more longer essays like this from you 😀
