A beautifully Rare Version of Luke Kelly Singing The Rare Auld Times.... So Many Thanks to June Without yourself I would never have come across these tracks xxx
I wonder if Luke Kelly would have ever thought I'd be listening to this tune and his brilliant voice on my phone in 32 degree heat in a Queensland summer. How things have changed. One of the best Kelly.....and old Ronnie in the background too.
Every time I listen to Luke I fall in love again. Born in 1941 Luke and I are from the church ⛪️ and the same generation. Thank you so much for sharing his music and the music of the Dubliners. Wish I had been able to hear them live ☘️☘️☘️💚💚💚🇨🇮🇨🇮🥰
Just heard this version of the great song and feel energised and I don't even mind going to work now I feel great and thanks kellyoneill you, ve just made my day again
I love these songs by the Dubliners so sad and moving. I was born in 68 but just discovered them a few years ago it's sad their nearly all gone but at least we have their music.
@@edelchaney8018For sure, while we live, we listen to his magical songs. He continue unreplaceble.. Luke and all Dubliners are immortals for us, my friend.
Was so lucky to see and meet The Dubliners on many occasions.. Luke was "and still is" my favourite Dubliner of all time.. "Well apart from my beautiful mam!" 😘
@@mariecarey8775 He also is my favorite Dubliner of all time. And you was so lucky to see and met them, especially, Luke. I consider him an immortal man. His voice makes me happy everyday.
I've loved folk music, especilaly Celtic folk, for 50 years or so, but not untuil recenlty did I discover the wonderful talent of Luke Kelly and the Dubliners. Thank you so much for sharing this. P.S. I'm a Yanl.
There are two types of Irish people, the Irish man that sits at the end of the bar in a pub in Boston ,Chicago, California, and across the world, he drowns his sorrows as he listens to the folk music of history and home,he reminiscing in false stories and fake politics. then there's the Irish man like Luke Kelly lived in England drank porter lived in hard times with nothing but the shirt on his back, tried his hand at acting and jazz music before finding his love of folk music, Luke was a smart man, an educated man,he had the opportunity of scholarship, however turned I'd down to return to his beloved ireland, in my view he revolutionised folk music and he's my idol of an Irish man, both Luke Kelly and the Dubliners shaped Irish folk music, and hopefully they will forever be heard across the world
I thought I was familiar with most of Luke's recordings until I discovered all the wonderful gems on here. Listening to his voice that touches your soul is giving so much pleasure. Thank you for all this, and the photos. Revisiting parts of my life through music, return most frequently to Luke's singing.
This is poetry of a high order. Musicianship of a high renown and the unique voice of the 1 and only Luke Kelly. A beautiful song about Dublin. And this from a culchie.
There is a video on UA-cam, Tom Petty, I don't remember what he was singing, but in the comments somebody said, you know you must be a badass, when you have Stevie Nicks for one of your backup singers. Same way here. RIP Luke and Ronnie but we can hear you, we can hear you, through the dark night, far away :-)

Luke kelly, the best singer of any genre of music that the universe produced.

Lovely this song is the best
Ring a ring a rosie as the lights declines
I remember Dublin city in the rare oul times
Raised on songs and stories, heroes of renown
The passing tales and glories, that once was Dublin town
The hallowed halls and houses, the haunting children's rhymes
That once was Dublin city, in the Rare Oul Times
Ring a ring a rosie as the lights declines
I remember Dublin city in the rare oul times
My name it is Sean Dempsey as Dublin as could be
Born hard and late in Pimlico in a house that ceased to be
My trade I was a cooper, lost out to redundancy
Like my house that fell to progress my trade's a memory
And I courted Peggy Dignan, as pretty as you please
A rogue and child of Mary, from the rebel liberties
I lost her to a student chap, with skin as black as coal
When he took her off to Birmingham, she took away my soul
Ring a ring a rosie as the lights declines
I remember Dublin city in the rare oul times
The years have made me bitter, the gargle dims me brain
'Cause Dublin keeps on changing and nothing seems the same
The Pillar and the Met have gone, the Royal long since pulled down
As the grey unyielding concrete makes a city of my Town
Ring a ring a rosie as the lights declines
I remember Dublin city in the rare oul times
Fare thee well sweet Anna Liffey, I can no longer stay
And watch the new glass cages, that spring up along the quay
My mind's too full of memories, to old to hear new chimes
I'm a part of what was Dublin, in the Rare Oul Times
Ring a ring a rosie as the lights declines
I remember Dublin city in the rare oul times
Ring a ring a rosie as the lights declines
I remember Dublin city in the rare oul times
