The width and length dimensions are really pretty accurate to those provided in the original 70s technical notebook here: catacombs.space1999.net/cybermuseum/MATN/matn2001.html I got out my tape measure and the 4.64 cm length is exactly right when including the maximum width of the belt clip (at the top) and the 5.28 cm width is also correct at the widest part at the top 2/3 section of the unit. The height, however, is a bit different. The model measures 17.7 cm at the base (without visor) and 19.3 cm at the maximum point of the visor. The 18.02 cm listed in the technical notebook would only be the case if measured from the maximum visor to the bottom of the antenna with the silver cap removed Good luck on your model!
i watched it in the 90s when it got aired and felt in love with it ...i wish they would rebut that with a story like " the lost spacebase " since the moon moved away from earth. something like 2024 : the earth recoevered from the moonless issues and they go to find the base and they find it and they have have developed a way better technology ...maybe that could be the material for a total new series called space 2024 that happens on the same timeline but only 24 years later . if anyone of you movie makers read this : please bring my kids dreams back
as kid i thought that thing is real 🤣i wanted one myself until i found out thats a F ing prop in a movie ...yeah you can laugh too 🤣but i truely thought ok the movie is a movie but they talk with that thing in a movie oo man what a dumbass was i Lol
That is amazing! I loved this show when I was young. I built a commlock and stun gun from _LEGO_ with my imagination applying the decals. Liked and subscribed. I’m going to find the stun gun build now! Thank you!
you can put a arduino in it and have a real screen by using the very movie clips which you can run via a botton .... and you have enough room to include a arduino and a real screen i guess
Another fantastic build! You are an artist! I too have been a lifelong fan of the show since it debuted back in 1975. I was only 13 when it premiered. I bought the eagle model kit and built my own spine booster unit out of parts from extra eagle kits. Although it was not exactly accurate, it was close. Unfortunately, I do not have any photos and I lost the model (along with a few other treasures) when my family moved across the country. I was fortunate enough to meet Martin Landau, Nick Tate, and the guy that played Kono(his name escapes me at the moment) when I attended a Space:1999 convention in Ohio back in 1979. They were all great! Anyway, thanks for all the amazing builds. You are an inspiration! Take care and keep them coming.
Thank you for such a wonderful and kind comment! It really means a lot coming from another lifelong fan!! I'm sorry to hear about the loss of your customized eagle, but it sounds awesome and the memories are still rich. That convention would have been amazing since it was so close to when the show was produced--yet more priceless memories you have there =)) Take care.
Congratulations on your commlock! Really well done... Congratulations on your ability and patience to have such a great result. I'm a lifelong Space:1999 fan and I perfectly remember when, in 1976, I watched Space:1999 and I was fascinated by the commlock. It was the most desired object of us all. More than the laser gun... Thank you for the 3 videos on Space:1999 commlock. Ciao!
Sony smart watch 3 pops out of the watch case and fits perfectly in the Comlock, it's android and connects to a smartphone and can play clips. It has no sound though, but you can put a tiny bluetooth speaker in the case with it and hook it up to the network, totally cheap and cheerful, with the adition of a bluetooth mic you can use it as a phone. Push it further by adding a tiny camera you can use it for facetime.
Ali express and wish have watch tv s for $3 . In 1975 i made a comlock out of wood and card and plastic and glue and paint. I had magazine and books with photo reference . I made it white and black buttons
Looks amazing! A real credit to all your work on it! I just ordered one of these and was wondering what colour you used for the commlock body? It looks highly accurate.
Thank you for taking the time to comment and your kind words. You can get all the paint formulas in the detailed version of this build. The main body colour is here: ua-cam.com/video/U-tj-BbK8Rs/v-deo.html. I'm glad you ordered the kit and I hope that you enjoy putting it together! All the best.
Thank you for your comment! I pinned a comment where I provide all the measured dimensions so just refresh and it should be near the top of comments. As you swapped from aluminium to chrome on the button and base, what are your thoughts on using Alclad polished aluminium? It would be just as reflective as the chrome, but would have an aluminium shade.
@@ArcticModeler Thanks for the speedy reply. I plan to start on this model within a week, so have been watching videos like yours to get as many tips as possible on how to upgrade the kit. I think you did a superb job on your comlock.
Some recent time challenges due to changing life circumstance. I'll be back to the bench down the road. Thanks for watching and checking in. It means a lot that you liked the content =). Take care.
Very nice. I'm modeling one of these, what are the overall dimensions. I can find a lot of images but no sizes?

@@ArcticModeler Very nice, thanks. if you have the time, what are the dimensions of the "TV" screen? Thanks.
The clear screen from the kit is exactly 31 mm x 28 mm with slightly rounded corners.
I watched the Space 1999 in 1975 back when i'm still 11 years old. I missed the show very much.
Me too! Take care!!

I just ordered this and received it like 5 hours ago. Can't wait to assemble it. Now if only I could find as affordable Varians Sonic Energizer.
Awesome, all the best on your build and your fantastic journey to find that energizer! 😁

Hi Michael, this sounds pretty awesome and so creative! And it looks like the charge port on the back would even allow for steady power. Perfect!!

In the show they used a small portable tv for the close ups
They sure did! And hid the power and video cables that came out the bottom with camera angles :)
Thank you for sharing Shannon! Take care.
I see you didn't reproduce the nightmare keypad
There were sure some keypad gems!! catacombs.space1999.net/main/cguide/umcomlock.html
