- I'm dubbing the Snake Alley Crit as the Coolest Crit in the World. This crit goes up the Most Crooked Road in the World and is my favorite crit on the year. It's been a staple in my calendar since racing the junior category. Follow along to see how this years race played out.

USA riders are so used to nascar style crit racing that this becomes a technical course. This compared to racing in Europe is like a different sport. The content creations in the USA is just fantastic though and you can see that in the quality of this video and comments which is admirable.
Yup Europe is another level with all the road furniture and corners en small roads. 4 corner crits are so boring

Yup you have to be one of the first 5 or so people up the hill. Raced that back in the day on steel bikes with down tube friction shifters
2:03 you know this view makes me wonder, who was the first promoter back in the 70s or '80s that looked at this brick snake and thinks to himself, this would be a great place for a bike race 🙂.
Definitely the coolest crit out of all the ones I raced.
I raced it many years ago and I think the course was better back then. It was much shorter (without that long hot dog section at the top.. and also a shorter bottom section. So it was much more like a cyclocross race
It was so great to meet you! I was so nervous to say hi. This was really fun to watch from the sidelines and I hope to see you on the final day of ragbrai and at the snake next year!

Gotta throw some washers between your pedal the the crank so the backside doesn't catch. Had the same problem and that cured it. It might move your Q factor out slightly but worth it given the chances of catching that chain again. Seemed only to happen to me when I'm giving it the beans.
Great race! I've always wanted to try it after a buddy used to tell me all his old stories about racing there.

It was a rough race for me this year. Climbing 6th St. and then having to do the Snake really burnt a lot more matches than I had available. Still finished, but yikes.

The pass you mention that Tim Smith had a problem with, the one going into the snake...to me it appears he doesn't hold his line and drifts quite a bit to the right and you are forced to deviate from your line slightly and pass him. If anything it looks like he was the cause of that, not you.
watched this whole video while on the trainer this morning. i'm kinda wondering if i'm the only person that was exepcting the video to go to commercial when he stopped talking at 0:43. i can't be the only person. when the ad never came i was like "WHAT JUST HAPPENED?!?!?!?!!"

Great video and commentary. Tell us about your tire choice. It looks like your tire has a centre slick tread with a shallow pattern on the sides. Why’s you choose that?

Drew mentioned the location in the video - Burlington, Iowa. It's the end town for this year's RAGBRAI. Can't wait to experience Snake Eye Alley.

Oh I totally want to do this race eventually, and the other Quad Cities races. About an 8-hour drive, but one of these years I will do this race, even if I have to wait until I'm in the old guys 🙂.
The whole series are good races and this crit alone is worth a pretty significant drive. Go do the series next year.
Whoa…so a combo of the late 90’s/early 2000’s course (climb up a block b4 straight entry in to the snake) plus extending north past the top? Way way back it hung a right at the top of the Snake. Always fun watching these 1st person’ish!

What happened at nationals? And what gearing did you run? I understand you reasoning, but to me it seems like the kind of course where you would prefer two-by, so you never get under or over geared.
Oh, and the voice over voice is a bit annoying, but otherwise I really enjoyed the vid!! Subscribed :)
