Thanks for watching my latest build of this cosplay German tank😁 Expect more German tanks in my future videos.👍 I’m very pleased with the overall result and will learn from my mistakes you may have noticed :D
Hey great job on that tank. Since you're a brush painter I thought you should know a few things. First is that Tamiya acrylics are solvent based and water isn't really a good thinner for them. You might get better results with Tamiyas acrylic thinner, or my favorite Tamiya lacquer thinner. You did say in the video you dont like the smell of the thinners so in that case if you have them in your area you should definitely try Vallejo paints. They are water based acrylics and brush beautifully thinned with a little water.
Thank you. Happy to know, you think it came out great looking. I’m already aware of this information but I appreciate the feedback. My only regret is, I wish I had known this knowledge way back on my first kit lol.
@@Modkits131 oh it definitely did come out great looking. I've heard from others that have thinned Tamiya acrylics with water that it turns into a really weird consistency. Luckily it looks that didn't happen for you. Keep up the good work!
I have to say that I didn't know what to expect at the beginning of this video. After watching it, I was really surprised how this kit turned out. Very nicely done !
Great work Mr. Modkits. Your attention to detail is on point. Thank you for sharing your latest model. An intricate model. You made it seem effortless. Well done.
One point of critique : an East-German tank would only look this weathered after being out of service and stored for 10 years or more . Their tanks never saw combat, the only "battles" were exercices, after which no doubt they were thoroughly cleaned. Especially as they had to be in pristine condition for the many parades.
You achieved a very great result with your work on the T-55. A model build and painted, with much attention to the details. Top work! Best wishes, Joachim
Very good video and impressive looking result. Thanks for keeping it somewhat simple and not overwhelming me. Love to see this can be accomplished with just acrylics and brushes. Subscribed and will be watching more.
Thank you, yeah I just want to show people what you can do with just acrylics and brush painting. Also at an affordable budget, especially towards new comers to this hobby. 😁👍
Thank you. I was looking for someone who painted with acrylics and not laker or varnish. You make look good and not to hard. I'm going to paint my first model and hope it comes out ok
Using soap to lower surface tension for acrylics is genius instead of using oil paints and mineral spirits, does it work with vallejo acrylics too? I haven't got any tamiya ones.
Thanks for the videos. I only found your channel by searching for paint brushing models. I dont have an air spray. I got into modelling with the start of Covid lockdown.
You know for picking up this kit under $20 from hobby lobby (I also used a discount from their online QR code) this kit wasn’t as bad as I’d thought it would be. Despite some gaps on the fuel drums and difficulty applying on the fenders. It was still an overall fun and simple build. :-)
I built this model 1-2 years ago when i was a lot less experienced with models (i still an but not as much) and i messed it up a good bit so i pretty much turned it into one of those t55'ss on Zavod 311 from BF4 so i chewed it up with some of my tools and now im hand painting it, im planning on getting the tamiya basic airbrush set but i still want to try hand painting.
Nice! Yeah, that’s pretty much what I did with my 1/35 Tamiya Tiger II, added rust to it and called it finished lol. I hope you have some fun with hand painting your model. :-)
I just started this a few nights ago. Working on assembling the road wheels still. I used tamiya then set and oh man that was a pain in the ass trying to hold the sides of the hull straight while the glue set.
Built this thing around 11 months ago when i had been modeling for around 2-3 months im pretty new btw i got this kit again hoping it will look better this time as my first attempt was sub par to say the least
Hello, did you ever had experience applying varnish using the brush? I'm thinking about getting VMS varnish HD in satin to apply it over the model to blend in the decals nicer but i don't own an airbrush. I'm not sure how the varnish will apply with it, since i can only find videos of it being applied using an airbrush.
I would first make sure VMS varnish is capable of being applied with water/thinner. For example, I’ve tried using AK interactive’s flat varnish and it completely ruined one of my synthetic brushes. So be cautious. Tamiya, Citadel and Vallejo have been my go to varnishes for brush application as they can be thinned with just water.
@@Modkits131 Thank you very much for the info and quick reply. Unfortunately out of Satin varnishes only Vallejo has products selling locally in my country. As for VMS varnish i only found that it can be thinned out using VMS Airbrush Thinner 2.0 if the varnish got too dry. I will get both Vallejo and VMS to test them out.
So you're building up thing coats while wet, not drying between? How long do you wait after the base color is done to dry brush and do color modulation?
What you’re referring to is wet blending. Where you blend two paints while the previous one is still wet. I was doing the over brush technique where I have my paint thinned down and I remove the excess on a paper towel. With it being very similar to dry brushing I sweep the brush over large areas on top of the model, while ignoring the small highlight details. As you’re familiar with dry brushing. I roughly have to wait at least 10 to 20 minutes before the base is fully dry. Give it an hour to dry if you want to be sure. I hope this helps, sorry I couldn’t get to you earlier. :)
@@megatron8490 You can still use the same ratio, but in larger portions. Instead of drops you could use “parts” of paint to help have a better understanding of the average thinned ratio. Hope that makes sense. 😅
I recommend cleaning the model with dish soap and water, while scrubbing it with a brush. Then let it dry, in a dust protected area. I’m using Tamiya fine surface primer in a spray can.
Yes, just remember that it’s not as strong as the Tamiya primer because the Tamiya primer is like a car primer. But I also still like using the Vallejo primer as well. :)
@@Modkits131 Ok i am going to go to the hobby shop now, there is no fine tamiya primer but i will buy the vallejo one, should i take the black one or the white one? the main color of the tank is going to be something like beige, iraqi sand kinda, also there is an alternative, there are like vallejo canned primers is what do you think about that? to summarize, do i take the vallejo bottle primer or the vallejo spray primer and which color, thanks and sorry for being annoying :)
It's a real shame they don't allow any vertical elevation or movement of the gun on such a model - it's not a kit I ever plan to build, but if I had this 1/35 I'd want a bit more than a glue fixed gun, such as is possible with the Tamiya 1/35 Matilda for instance.
I built the Israeli version supplied in this kit but the problem is the kits details are way to thick. Like the headlight guards and other rails. You would make this a lot better by buying a eduard photo etch t-55 set to get rid of the ugly thick parts. I also replaced the machine guns with some legend productions guns and the miniart T-55 working tracks (which are worth the $12, cheap!) which reallly made it look much better
For how simple and low the sprue count is for an old kit like this. I’d say about a weekends build. For me it was just two days because of all my free time.
Also priming the model isn’t always necessary. I recommend you clean the model with soap and water with a brush and leave in the model kit box to let it dry overtime or anything else that will protect your model from oily fingers and dust. :-)
Hey modkits, i have another question, because i have a 1/35 tank, and there are large and flat surfaces, should i sand them, or should i put primer and then i dont have to sand it or how it goes?
The Primer should help reveal imperfections on the model that will easily let you sand. If some parts are obvious then go ahead and sand them before priming. :)
@@Modkits131 no no, i meant, because i heard somewhere i had to sand large flat surfaces before applying paint, so im asking is that needed if i put primer. :) thx
Looks great! If I were you, I would try to use less glue, because it eats the plastic and is noticeable after paint. Looking forward to your next project.
