So I am a diesel tech up here in Oregon. I have a small repair business in the north side of the state. I have rebuilt several 3406 cats. I can tell you that there is no hi pressure oil in the cylinder head on one. Only oil to go above the block is from the push tubes. It drains back down thru the head to the oil pan. That truck was missing on multiple cylinders and blowing coolant out the exhaust. I’m betting that you have a head gasket out between 2 cylinders or a broken liner. It’s quite possible with the color of the water in the radiator that the liners did get worm holes. Don’t ever ever ever run a Diesel engine with just water in it. The harmonics of the combustion paired with the surface tension of straight water will erode the metal on the engine. And some engines take very few miles gif this to happen. Notice that water will dome over the top of a glass but antifreeze won’t. It can’t hold the air pockets that will burst with combustion in a block and eat out the metal. Also if you look for an older Ford 8000 Canadian they had a whale belly frame on them that is like you are talking about. I know where there is one here in Oregon that has a 3208 cat and a 10 yard dump box on it. He might even be willing to let it go for cheap. Keep up the good work!

You are assuming that the failure was your fault, but there was also probably a reason the truck was parked. The previous owner probably overheated it at some point, causing the damage and the temperature gauge has probably been faulty for a while.

As long as you're having fun, and love what it is that you're doing, it's not really job the way I feel about, and I taught that to my sons too.
As soon as its no longer fun, and something that you truly enjoy, and it's getting to more stressful than anything else.
It's time to rethink what you're doing, and figure out if there's a way to get back to when it wasn't a heart attack pending, because life is too short to burn yourself out for the benefit of others with nothing left for yourself at the end.
Excellent content, and when you slow down you really do have a entertaining, and informative channel that compliments you as a person.
Head up shoulders back, keep your eyes firmly in the direction of your goals.
Make a comprehensive plan, and never change from the plan, slight modifications are expected, but never change the core of your plans.
By doing this, and not deviating from them, because someone else wants you to do more of what they want.
They're not interested in you or your plan, they're out for whatever you can do for them.
Walk away if it's not a mutual benefit for both parties, and then base that on the amount of effort each party is bringing to the agreement.

Cracked heads/engine blocks suck. I cracked my Mercruiser 350 on my 25’ power boat last winter (water intake got plugged so winterization didn’t get all the water out. Last winter was cold in Michigan. So, it’s for sale now, in good shape other than the engine and includes a nice trailer.
I love the storm chasing! I’ve been Skywarn certified for years and used to storm spot here in Michigan. It’s hard to see much with all the trees and the heavy rain. I traveled east through South Dakota once with tornadic storms chasing us all the way. Fun times!

Just buy a heavy haul double frame chassis. Semi truck chassis’ are heat treated and not really supposed to be welded on unless you know the proper procedure to heat treat the frame again. As my my father owned a shop that specialized in building big trucks for various uses but primarily the oilfield I’ve see more truck frames that were cracked out and completely compromised due to cutting, welding and drilling into the frame improperly. We were only one of two shops in the area that was certified to work on as well as stretch frames and there is a very specific technique to it in order to prevent failure thus preventing accidents.
The reason I suggested a heavy haul double frame is because I’ve seen them handle some crazy amounts of weight and it would work just fine for what you have in mind and it will be much safer. Good luck with your project though. Look forward to seeing it finished.
