Great idea. I've lost several nice fish, this season, cause my bIt skid down and bunched up on the hook. I'll be doing these, during the off season. Also, just an idea. You could always start tying on the paper clip you spoke about, and then, once It's tied on, snip it to length. Less waste that way, and you have more length, initially, to work with.
Good tip. Look at you spinning that bobbin around and doing a whip finish knot with out a finisher...... You got some fly tying history in ya....or a buddy that fly fishes.
Watching you do that made me wonder how a small piece of heat shrink tubing would work . Have you tried that ? You would have to cut it on an angle to make the point but I bet it would work . I.ve got some I will give it try . Also I have been using 1/8" lead soldering wire for nail weights . I cut it on an angle to make the point and I can get hundreds of the from a single spool and have any size I want .
All great ideas! My only concern with shrink tubing is it’s width might tear the plastic bait. Give it a try and let us know how it goes. I’m open to trying anything.
It worked great. I used the 5/64” diameter tubing and only took seconds to do . Best way I found is pierce a 1/2” pc. through the outside about an 1/8” from the end and run the point on through . That 1/8” winds up being keeper point and it can be trimmed and is just soft enough not to tear the plastic so much but still hold well .
This is a great tip. You could also use a piece of shrink tubing that has one end cut on a sharp angle. Or use the shrink tubing in lieu of the wrap. Thanks for the awesome tips and content.
Matt, Thanks. I tried small diameter shrink tubes with glue incorporated and it works great as well. Faster and easier for those who do not have fly fishing kit. They also come in several colours.
Matt great tips as always.I just watched a video that Shaw Grigsby did swimming a worm Texas rigged, and he used a product that kept the worm from sliding down the hook using plastic discs and it also worked for other baits. The product is made by Rapid fishing solutions. Not a lot of money and it looks like it would work well. Looked real good for Drop shot, Wacky worm, swim baits, jig trailers and spinnerbait trailer hooks.
I’ve been doing this for a bit since I saw this video and it works great for making baits last and hook up ratio has increased, would you say this keeper is better than the bobber stop keeper you showed a few weeks ago or they perform the same in terms of hook up ratio? If the bobber stop performs the same or better I think I’d prefer that since it’s more subtle on the hook, I haven’t tried yet
Awesome stuff for ewg’s. I use the owner twist lock light for the same reason with soft plastics and have had a Yamamoto senko last for 6 fish. The twist lock does the same concept as this, but I’d say even better
Have you done it with a heavy fluorocarbon vs. the paperclip. I tried the Mustad Grip Pin hook years ago but it did tend to rip the plastic quite a bit with the metal keeper
Matt why don’t you talk them into making a fusion hook like that and market it under your name. I would buy that hook in a heart beat. I’ve been wondering for years why some hook company hasn’t come up with that yet. Great tip sir!
Awesome tip. Thanks.
You bet!
Great Tip. Thanks for sharing.
No problem!
Very cool and practical. Thank Matt
Thanks!
What a great idea
Thanks!
Now that is a great tip. I shared this video with a good friend, because he's a worm fisherman. I enjoy watching your video's.
Thanks for sharing!
Thanks Matt

Haha! I’ve been tying bass jigs, swim jigs, hairjigs, etc for a LONG time! I love it!
Do some videos on THAT if you would please!!! I have chickens and guinea fowl, and have been saving feathers and am ready to learn!
@@chickenmessiah Good idea!
Perfect! This solves a problem I've been having with one of my favorite rigs! Thanks!
Glad to help!
In the UK we have something called a float stop . Takes 2 seconds
Good suggestion!

@@MrIfish2much awesome! Thanks for sharing! Sounds like another good way to pit a keeper on
Thanks for the tip. Keep em coming!
Will do!

Great tip! Why dont manufactors do this? Strike king makes one.
Not sure
Great tip Matt! Awesome channel full of great info!
Thank you!
What kind of glue is that? You called it super glue I think as you were rubbing it in with your fingers?
Loctite super glue
Great idea! I’m going to tie a few of these today. Might even try red or chartreuse yellow thread for a little extra flash.
Great idea!

Yep I have used them in the past with some success. Thanks for sharing!
where do I get the bobbin?? is that what it's called? and that holder?
yep. any fly tying shop will have them
Matt, I'll definitely be giving that a try! Great little tip that will save a lot of agrivation on the water!
Thanks!
Great tip , you might also ad some weight if belly weight is needed...
Definitely!

this holds up better than the bobber stop but both work great!

Mustard makes the KVD drip pin EWG hooks with a bait keeper built in
Nice good to know!

Yep i have that works to. Really anything works as long as it sticks up a little and is not cumbersome
Do you have a prefered lb test flouro?
@@jessecornell8167 15 lb is my standard fluorocarbon on my baitcasters. For spinning its 8lb
Eagle Claw, Trokar and Mustad do. I don’t like their hooks and put my own on as well. Started with Heat Shrink and then to Heavy Mono b

Thanks! Believe me I’ll make sure to mention it to Berkley!
Why not just add a spring lock? VMC has a 20 pack for $3.50
I’m not a fan of spring locks much. I think they can interfere with Hooksets
@@MattStefanFishing Really? How so? Interested to hear your thoughts.
@@mikeadams4605 the spring lock closes the gap on the hook point distance which limits the bite room of the hook.
I will definitely be giving this a try.
Let me know what you think!
Instead of using a paper clip try using some 40~50lb Mono. You can pick up 200 yds of cheap Mono from Wally World for a couple of $
That works as well! Thanks for the tip
You are brave to literally rub the glue with your fingers. haha.
Haha!
