I was born and raised in Chicago, but after working 12 years in the financial Industry regulating the futures and options markets at the CME/CBOT I decided to pursue my passion fishing professional tournaments and left my full time corporate job. At that point, I moved to Junction City, WI with my wife Sara and two boys Hank and Duke. I've been fishing professionally since 2011 and full-time since 2015. I've qualified for seven MLF Championships and won over a half million in tournament winnings at the professional level. - Спорт
Matt, since I retired I’ve watched all your videos and learned more from you than the other thousands! This spring I caught 4 smallys 5lb or better in 5 days on a 4 inch watermelon Pit Boss on a wobble head jig. Water was dirty from wind so also dipped in garlic chartreuse spike it. Thanks, and good luck whatever you do next year.
Glad to help
Another interesting and informative video. I've had good luck with the 3 inch Pit Boss on the Ozark rig and as a trailer on skirted jigs. Your vids are the best
Good stuff!
The pit boss is top 3 punch bait for me! I wish retailers would carry more sizes! I never see the smaller sizes, and it drives me crazy trying my best to support the local shops.
It’s a good one
Thanks for letting me know about the Pit Boss, I did really well on nice sized largemouths on deeper weed line edges fishing it Texas rigged with a 3/16 tungsten weight. Also did really well with a Neko rigged Berkeley Max Scent General.
It’s a winner!
I finally gave the Ozark rig a try this weekend. I was using it with a Trick Worm. While I loved the action it gave the bait on the fall, I was disappointed with how often the head of the weight would get wedged and caught on wood. Where a Texas rig would just slide over a branch, the Ozark rig would get caught. It wasn't that hard to pop it off when this happened, but I found it annoying enough that I don't know if I'll be fishing it around wood much again.
You probably didn’t have enough worm over the head of the hook. You need to make sure the plastic is tight to the bait keeper and there is no gap
Love the pit boss!! I did well with smallmouths on the Yamamoto Yamatanuki 2.5 in green pumpkin, and watermelon red fleck.
Sounds great!
Matt, The BPS Stick-O six inch rigged: t-rig weightless, neko and BEST of all the Ozark Rig. The Ozark Rig caught good numbers and most of my biggest LM bass up to 8lbs. Cold water in spring was a sp jerkbait (Jackall Rerange 110 sp and Pointer 100 sp). NE-KS & NW-MO area.
Giant! Love this!
I've caught the vast majority of bass this year on a NED rig. I use both a 1/6 and 1/10 mushroom jig head with a 2.75" Zoom Coppertreuse Finesse TRD. It seems to work in almost any water or weather condition.
This 👆🏾 Had to go finesse all year, even on the big ones. I don't understand what's happening 🤷🏽♂
Solid!
Congrats on selling your boat! Mama will be happy this winter.
Yep
I caught a few key smallies with the 3" as a finesse jig trailer
It’s a great jig trailer!
OSP Do-Live beaver on a free rig and a 2.8 Keitech on a 1/8 ounce guppy head were my most consistent producers. Honorable mention to a blade bait when the water was cold.
Good choice
1/4 oz swim jig with a 3" Berkley Chigger Craw was my biggest producer this year. I fish lots of natural lakes and it's just killer in the weeds.
Good one!
I’ve had strange success with a wacky rigged Zoom U tail. I’ve caught bass and bluegill on it very well and it has been a truly awesome bait to use. Moccasin blue and chartreuse pepper are the best two I’ve tried but the runner up is the Zoom/powebait 4inch curly tail. It just flat out produces fish. Light Texas rig or on a jighead seems to be the best way to use it for me. Though I do use it as a mini swimming worm too!
Good stuff
Thanks for the continued info. Really making my fishing better. Are you going to come out with the ozark rig in 2/0? What about the weedless tush.
We have a 2/0 Ozark rig. You can get them at TW. We are currently sold out on the website
Got to get me some of those pit bosses I have different ones in my tackle but none of those thanks Matt 👍🏻
You bet
I just caught a PB large mouth (19 plus inches and some girth) with a Core Tackle Hover Rig with a Paca Chunk Sr. on it - this has been my most productive set-up this year - thank you for all the fishing tips, tackle choices and videos ! I might give the Pit Boss a try (awesome that you get to fish with your family !)
Big one!!!
Love the pit boss!!
Me too!
I wasn't able to get out as much this season but when we did the X Zone Ned Zone 3" worked and just today I caught a 3 pound smallie on a 3" X Zone tube in a green pumpkin main body with clearish tentacles with purple flake. I love tubes and have been using for decades and I am loving the X Zone tubes. They last a good long time yet soft enough with lots of salt so the smallies hang on much longer then others I have tried. Will be looking to get the 2.5" Stealth tubes when they go on sale eventually.
Thanks for sharing
Thanks Matt, you always keep it real.
You bet
Pitboss is a winner for me also. greenpumpkin 4" on a 3/8 chatterbait evo brought at least 50 decent bass in the boat for me, inclmy 2 PB smallies this August.
Thanks for sharing!
Great video Matt, good info 👍 thanks. I miss the Havoc pit boss
You and me both!
Best part is going smaller. for all lure designera..."Mr.Mojo Rising!" I'm having fun with tiny silicone minnows. they have the body weight. We need a tiny Ozark Rig. 90 degree jig hook
I like that idea!
I picked up some 3inch green pumpkin pit bosses on sale at Dicks in Kentucky on Saturday on the way back to Tennessee from Ohio. I wouldn't have ever tried those if not for your videos. Thanks Matt 😊
They are so good!
I also caught 90% of all my fish this year on the R I Beaver ! 4,20 !
Very cool
My go to was flipping a jig or swimming a jig in or near grass lines. If the water clarity was 1 to 3 feet I did have a pit boss as a trailer. Green pumpkin or June bug were my two favorite colors.
Thanks!
My go plastic this season has been the Strike King Rage Tail Crawl. The way you use those Berkleys has been the way I did also with these. From Texas Rig to trailers to your Ozark rigs and your Swim Jigs. Guilty Pleasure and Shadilack are my favs. I like to tell folks I am going to go “Shadalack” some bass.
Good stuff
My go to bait is usually a Texas rigged Yum Dinger, much cheaper than the Senko. I liked your season review of baits but on the flip side do you ever review your season and say "I need to throw this or that more next year?" I sometimes get too locked in on 1 or 2 particular baits. Maybe a video?
Yep I’ll be doing more of these
2 mainstays in my arsenal and have caught a lot of Bass for me is the Ned rig , color : Meat Dog by Z Man, and Ribbon tailed worm by Yum. Color: Tequila Sunrise texas rig.
Good ones
I will have to check out these Berkley Pitt Boss baits and congratulations on selling your boat!! Thanks Matt for sharing this with us!!
Thanks!
i go through packs of these like crazy, after you texas rig with them cut a little off and it makes for a good trailer haha junebug works really well for me or the watermelon red
Thanks for sharing
I forget the name but your Core Tackle swim jig was on fire for me this weekend. I thought the day trip was a tough bite only catching 10-12 a day but apparently everyone else was getting skunked or only a couple each day.
Caddo Lake Tx side
Good stuff! I love the swim jig!
Strike King Swim Jig paired with a SK Rage Tail Menace in Moon Juice color was my big catcher this year. Also, a drop shot rig with a Zoom 4" finesse worm.
Solid!
The Pit Boss was my go to bait Texas rigged flipping lay downs or weeds. My first tournament this year finished 3rd flipping a Pit Boss on a hoover rig in the weeds. Oh yea the hoover rig was from Core Tackle. Need to try it on the Ozark Rig next. Thanks for your advice Matt
Great pairing!
1/4 and 3/8 jig with zoom super chunk jr. black/ blue, green pumpkin, and mixed combo of the two. 99 percent of the time all year long.
Awesome
Hey Matt was wondering what rods you like to use for throwing a jig, or bait like pit boss
MHX NMB-874
Thank you Matt . I am learning stage.
Sounds good
Caught a lot of fish on the rubber dice and the new Reins Umbrella Wire creature bait this year.
I have been messing around with new OSP HP fish . Unique little swim bait. You should give it a look, I think it is going to catch a lot of smallies for me next year.
Very cool!
Another way to fish the pitboss is to rig it weightless on a ewg hook and if you reel fast enough it becomes a mini finesse buzzbait.
Yep!
3/8oz Picasso skirted jig with a Berkley max scent creature hawg in gp. Mississippi River fish couldn’t resist!
Awesome
my bass fishing spirit guides are saying to say "Hi" to Rob from Bass Mafia. I see it as a good "posse". 🤑🎣🦅🎣
I have no idea what you are talking about
@@MattStefanFishing lol! 😂 Good for you.
You need your own color pit boss. Ikes got one skeet had some big hes gone now. So there's a place for you to have your own custom. Blend of color. What would it be?
I’d love to do that… I’ll have to think about color
It’s seems in Quebec ( Canada 🇨🇦) that i can’t get my hands on the 3 inch size , ordering from usa cost so much in transport , it’s ridiculous!
I've rigged in backwards after the head tore and seem to catch more that way.
Very cool
Love the pot boss on
A swim jig!
Awesome
🍺Thanks Matt🤠.
You bet!
Is that the 5” on the ozark rig??
I sure enjoy your fishing knowledge and also appreciate the tips you give I really haven't fished The Pit Boss much but I do have some somewhere and all the tackle I have I'm like yourself a taco Junkie I have boxes on top of boxes of thousands of dollars worth of fishing stuff
Give it a try
I tell you what I use the Ozark rig with a bull flat and man. I did really well this summer
That’s a good combo!
Zoom Z-Craw is my jam, also like the Pit Boss
Good ones!
The 3” is money.
Texas rig or as a trailer on a 1/4 or 3/8 jig.
Yep
Was it the 3in pit boss or 4in?
Both
Punching a pit boss is right up there with the D bomb
Good ones
Swimming Worm and a Swim Jig caught the most fish for me this year.
Good picks!
One of my favorites as well.
It’s so good
Thanks Matt General wacky and a day saver was a pittboss on a shacky heag
Awesome
Not so much what I’ve caught, but what I have lost.
I have lost over 20 chatters to Pike . I have to use leaders with my Jacks , won’t loose those too
much $$$$$$
Noooo
@@MattStefanFishing What is happening is
These white pail people who kill every fish but pike.
Crappy have become extinct
1/16th owner football ultra head with the 4.25 max scent flat worm. Absolute cheat code.
Nice!
Couldn't agree more. Used the 1/16th owner football ultra finesse head with either Berkley Hit worm or Zman Fatty Z and slammed Largemouth all year. Caught a 5.25# largie in early July this way during a weeknight league (WI) ended up winning Big Bass yr. end Pot. I had primarily used 1/8 oz, but went lighter this year and it was a difference maker!
Thanks.
You're welcome
No best bait. 2024 sucked! Bank or offshore hard to get patterns. It can all change in the blink of an eye. I am glad to be watching your videos. Thx
I’m glad your watching my channel
Tried to join your channel however the join button didn’t work I’ll try later. Disregard I was able to join.
Awesome! Welcome aboard!
Now go catch a big northern musky this year. It’s getting game time and make a video 👊
Great bait but I get so many that come warped in the package.
Really?
@@MattStefanFishing yeah I think it was around the time they changed it over to the max scent. I think there was a few problems with that first batch.
Whats your favorite colors
Green pumpkin and black and blue
BPT update?
I got kicked out still
Congrats on selling the boat. Hope the next boat is awesome.
Thanks!
If you had to state your preferred style of Tournament Fishing? It would be?!
Man i love both formats. I’d like to do catch weigh release on a 5 fish format
👍👍👍👍👍
Thanks for watching
Wobble head.
Good one
