Please tell me that Im not the only person learning this for the sake of it. (and also the fact if I meet a deaf person, Ill be able to talk to them straight away instead of having to learn at the time I meet them)
Me to! I've always wanted to learn it because It's Such a nice Language And I Really want to be a sign language Teacher for deaf Children and Adults and For people to learn. I asked my Teacher Once if we could learn Sign language instead of Japanese And she said no
my first kinda wake up call to learn this was i was working at praties (Tasmanian baked potato fast food sorta place) and a deaf customer came in, i was serving him and as i didn't/ don't know auslan the only was i was able to take his order was to get him to point to the menu (one of the menus on a piece of paper obviously) it worked but it made me feel like i was letting my fellow aussies down by not knowing it
I think I can now say "Hello my name is Hannah " I'm 14 and trying to learn sign language because I just want to know how to say simple things if I ever meet s deaf person
Please do more Auslan videos Abbey, you're an awesome teacher. I have been trying to learn Auslan through youtube and yours is the first which gives some hints around the "viewer" perspective of signing (ie: turn your hand this way so they can see what you're doing). Thanks for making it a bit easier.
My Nephew was born deaf last year and is having a cochlear implant next the next few weeks. I'm wanting to learn sign language and found your videos to be so helpful. I've been watching them constantly. Thank you. :)
This is so cool!! I've always wanted to learn sign language, but when I worked with deaf actors they were the most nicest and sweetest people I've met. And I wanted to learn ASL so I'd be able to talk to them, also I want to do nursing so just in case. I wanted to learn stuff in advance😄 this was super helpful thankyou!!!💖
Hopefully a course coordinator raised it with you but in your first year try and make this one of your electives. We don't get many choices in health sciences but this is one I was annoyed wasn't offered at my campus. It is useful and we do need to know it if we want to treat everyone with the same respect.
Thank you so much for making this, I’m autistic and sometimes have trouble speaking and so I’m trying to teach myself and hopefully my family sign language so I don’t have to write my feelings down
I'm so loving all of you guys taking the time to teach AUSLAN.. Im just a beginner but I love it so much.. I'm hoping that it will make a bridge between me, deaf people & an awesome friendship!??
I'm going to travel around Australia soon with my 6 year old. I'll be home schooling him and this is what I've chosen as the language we are going to learn. So I'll be learning it right alongside him. Abbey, your videos are going to be our starting point. Thankyou
I have done BSL for 10 years and it is exactly the same as Australian Sign Language. And just to let you know there is another sign which is for the letter Y which is yellow and you do the same.
I am learning this because i sometimes go non-verbal, i have self diagnosed autism and are too scared to ask my mum to go to the doctors to get a diagnosis
Hey Abbey, thank you for your videos! I've just started watching and learning, so I have a question. Is it important which hand you use for signing the alphabet for specific letters. Say, pointing to left or right thumb for A?
I have been taught using the opposite hands, (by a friend in school back in the day) is that a problem? Eg for vowels I use my right pointer finger to my left hand etc etc. Also in general does it matter if you change hands (like if you are a leftie?)
I've been wanting to learn sign for a while now as my son's best friends parents are deaf and 2 beautiful ladies at our local Coles across from the school are deaf too, I think it should be mandatory in schools to at least have charts up with basic signs of alphabet and to learn basics so they can communicate. Making it my goal to learn as much as I can so I can hopefully make that change at our school :) thanks for the video girls, also why does it change in different states and is it by alot or just a little bit?
You should use your dominant hand. So if you are right handed you would be using your right hand to point at fingers on your left hand and vice-versa :)
Hi! Quick question- do you do the alphabet with your dominant hand, or do you do them so that the person facing you can see the letters (like c is the right way aroudn for the person opposite you?)
I choose to learn sing language I already know one handed from pics I can say anything in one handed And I’m only 11 I learnt it when I was 9 and I’ve loved it ever since I even try to teach my best friend because she has a great relationship with her grandmother and she is deaf and it’s just awesome noing that I helped her I really want to help a lot more people and I want to learn two handed sing language because some deaf people that don’t know one handed. Remember I’m only 11 old and have a pashon to help people learn so they can talk to deaf people. 🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🤪🤪
does it matter which hand you use to do each part? like when i sign a do i have to get my left index finger to point to my right thumb, or can i do it the other way around? are all auslan signs mirror image-able?
Are we seeing this backwards? (The posters in the background are backwards) And does it make a difference which hand you use for the signs that only use one hand?
Well done. Shame you don’t know how to pronounce the last letter of our alphabet. 😳🤔😕👎🏼 The Americans are changing our English too much as it is. Mispronouncing the letter ‘ZED’ is unforgivable. But I’ll forgive you this time. 😁😁😁
Coronavirus boredom is making me learn this rn.. lets get ittt!

But what a cool and positive thing to do with your time. Abbey is an awesome teacher, too.

My Nephew was born deaf last year and is having a cochlear implant next the next few weeks. I'm wanting to learn sign language and found your videos to be so helpful. I've been watching them constantly. Thank you. :)

6 yr after, and still relevant. Thank you.
I want to learn, 1. My brigade leader is deaf, 2. I am autistic, and switch between verbal and non-verbal, and want some way to communicate.
Please keep making videos :) loving how you teach

does it matter what hands you use? or is each sign reversible if that makes sense? thank you
Finally know how to say “Hello, my name is Taylah.” Thank you ^^
do you have to use the same hands, or can you switch it around if youre left handed ?

You should use your dominant hand, all the signs can be done either way :)

Do i need to flip this video to be in my perspective or does it not matter which hands u sign with?
what cute lady, nice way of explaintion
i reckon chantelle does a remake of count on me
I was taught to sign the letter 'y' with your pointer finger on the front of your palm, not the back of the hand. Does it matter which way I do it?
Waimania yeah do it in the way she did
Kind thanks Abbey😎
I Love it since I wanted to learn sigh Language now here it is wow..
I learn the alphabet but with signing with my left hand 😂 does it matter ?
doing "V" is pretty much peace on your hand
Hello
Great you sign language nice
There are times when you're doing opposite hands to each other, which is the correct one to use or does it nit matter
You should use your dominant hand. So if you are right handed you would be using your right hand to point at fingers on your left hand and vice-versa :)
Hey i wanted to know do you have to use a specific hand for each letter or does it not matter?
please make more.
Hi! Quick question- do you do the alphabet with your dominant hand, or do you do them so that the person facing you can see the letters (like c is the right way aroudn for the person opposite you?)
Good show ladies
This helped me thanks

No it dose not mater
Your dominant hand does the action ones and your non-dominant hands helps.
Amy Macdonald what do you mean by action ones? sorry im really dumb
@@gl-iu5rj you're not dumb. Signs where you need to move or signs with only one hand, you use the hand you write with.
Amy Macdonald oh i see, thank you so much. so for the letter A, do i use my left thumb and place my right index finger on it? or the other way around?
Are we seeing this backwards? (The posters in the background are backwards)
And does it make a difference which hand you use for the signs that only use one hand?
The K is really cute!
Hi can you send me. Any deaf students college in Australia addressed. Because my cousin want to study
Huh its so cool to me that other sign languages use both hands to sign the alphabet when american sign only needs 1 hand
good job that is correct
i use the same ending as you !
How many sign languages there is in English??
i just learned my name in AUSLAN i'm proud of myself
I’m so dumb, I have trouble telling. Is this video flipped or.. Does it matter which hand you do it with?
A to H: 1:05 - 1:21
I to P: 1:22 - 1:58
Does this channel teach Auslan sign language?
That’s what this video is
seems you are both left handed
Is the sign for T the same as the sign for Toilet?
Toilet is a double touch - which is a short hand way. You could always finger spell it if there is confusion.
Nice
I only know American Sign Language it’s much easier
Nice
Cool
Excuse my native but I wonder they are different
I agree
Hello my name is Mikayla
Oh dear, your video is not showing you as we would see you, you are back to front L and R side is opposite.
U did the sign 4 toilet when u did T maybe that’s just in Victoria
I think toilet you touch it to.your hand twice, not the once - so like T T.
Amy Macdonald ahhhhh ok I was taught once but that was a very long time ago
@@catherinekamoen6685 I'm trying to learn it now 🤣 We do it for the kids at the school I teach at so it's been so fun and I want to learn more!
I know ABC in sign I used 2 know A LOT more but don’t use it in every day life so forgotten a lot I’d love 2 learn n b fluent

F on top of fingers, N on palm. How is it wrong?
Well done. Shame you don’t know how to pronounce the last letter of our alphabet. 😳🤔😕👎🏼
