I getcha! There are definitely other people who try this on virgin hair but the fact is, I can’t unbleach my hair and I am a regular overtone user as well so not much I can do on that front ☺️ but I will say that at my level of brunette [the entire top portion of my hair] you achieve a suite hint of purple that catches the light.

I have a lighter brown hair but the overtone is impressive. It does take fairly direct light for the color to pop with it but even the rose gold for Brown hair completely changed my hair color to a nice strawberry blond color. I have noticed that using it since I died my hair a dark blue at one point it loses the vibrant shades much quicker now so I think the darker the starting hair color the more often you'll need to refresh it
The thing I tell people about Overtone is: how well the product works depends on how you're using it, and what you expect from it. Refreshing colored hair is literally what the product was created for, so it's brilliant for that. If you have lighter hair and want to temporarily test out a funky color without doing any damage, it's awesome for that. If you're expecting a salon quality dye job in a tub... you're going to be disappointed, especially if you have dark hair. I have short light brown (level 5-ish) hair. It took two applications to get really impressive color, and I had to leave it in WAY longer than the directions say (says 15 mins, did 40) Also, Purple for Brown is a very red-toned purple, so just be aware of that. I enjoyed using it, but managing expectations is hugely important with this product. And also... because it's a conditioner, it does wash out much faster than dye and you're gonna mess up some towels every time you shower. I just use white towels and bleach them in the washer.

I think it looks so pretty! I also think it'll fade to a really beautiful color, especially since you have the more red toned purple underneath that plumish, blue toned purple. Purples definitely suit you!
I am preparing to use purple for brown hair... I was using Rose Gold for Brown hair, but that has faded and grown out. My natural color is a dark brown, but at age 70 I have a lot of white and gray especially in front. The Rose Gold gave me bright pink streaks on the white hair. So I am hoping for lilac or lavendar streaks from the Purple for Brown Hair. I might even post a photo if it turns out well...

Thanks. I’m sitting currently with a cap on my head and the product on. I have salt and pepper hair at the roots and blond highlights and brown lowlights that have grown out. Figured there is no harm trying it to see what it will do.
I’m happy to find this. My hair is dyed dark brown (to cover the “wisdom sparkles”. Looking for hair colors dark blue and purple that will show up but not overly vibrant and don’t want to bleach. Just scouring UA-cam and google to plan before I do it.
As I said in the video though my hair is bleached underneath. Without lightening first it will definitely be more of a tint/something you see in the light!
Your hair looks great before and after! My hair is super long, so I use it on damp hair which gives me 3 uses per tub! It still gives me insanely bright hair, I like to put it up on a shower cap for an hour or so.
I have found that longer then 15 minutes works better Purple for brown and an hour (on dry hair) is what I needed But I started w natural untreated medium brown hair

Thank you for stating you can use this on clean hair, I am so used to having dirty hair when it comes to coloring so you don't get that dryness.
Yes, dirty hair is usually for when you’re bleaching or using developer since it’s so stripping, the oils help protect your scalp but for semi permanent, it needs to grip onto clean hair 🤓 glad I could give you some tips and I’m sure it’ll come out awesome!

I use the daily conditioner as a co-wash since my scalp is naturally dry and doesn’t get that oily. In that way, the daily conditioner does keep my hair shiny.

You should also consider a merlot color if you like both red and purple, like a purply red color, you can make it with overtone too, you can get the purple color and then red and mix them.
Love your hair color! I recently dyed my hair a violet/purple shade (similar to the ends of your hair at the beginning of the video). I love the color and would love to keep it from fading. However, I realize this treatment changes the color entirely to a deep purple. So I am wondering do you have any recommendations for maintaining a color similar to what you have at the start of the video rather than changing it entirely.? Any help would be deeply appreciated! :)

@@catherinejones6925 6-8 washes depending on what else you're using. (color safe vs non-color safe products). sun exposure, heat exposure, chlorine, and other factors can affect your color as well.

Hmmm I would get 2 just in case because I consistently used an entire jar if I was doing my whole head with OT. Another alternative is doing Arctic Fox Purple Rain which is half the price, and then using overtone when you wash your hair to keep the color vibrant.

Interesting! I think it would depend on your current hair color. Because if you already have dark brown hair I don't think you should mix-- the brown will probably overtake the formula.
After filming the video was your hair dying her hands whenever you touched it or your neck just by touching it or did the purple stay in your hair not transferring to your hands or neck
It's semi permanent and how long it lasts depends on sooo many factors (using color safe shampoo, exposure to sun, exposure to chlorine, exposure to heat, how often you wash your hair) but generally about 6-12 washes.

MmMMMMmmmmm so the conditioner doesn't deposit as much pigment as the deep treatment. In theory you COULD but I'd be afraid that it wouldn't come out even because the conditioner is really only for a boost.

i love it! i got purple highlights about 2 months ago and I have been using KERACOLOR Color + Clenditioner to try to mantain the color but I feel like it's got to a point where my hair doesnt pick up that much color anymore but I do not want to go to the salon yet lol, I also have natural dark brown hair (almost black) so do you recommend this product to help me tint my highlights without getting into my dark hair too much? thanks much!
Yes this would probably do really well for your highlight but it will give your darker hair a subtle tint like it did mine. Overall it sort of deepened my natural brown hair for a deeper look!
I actually love AF Purple Rain! There are definitely some differences in the tone though, and I felt like this tinted more of my natural hair than AF does when I use it.
I’m purple rain right now and I have Uber think dark nearly black hair! I bleached first and used less then 2 oz of purple rain mixed equal with conditioner!!!! My hair is perfectly dark purple and it’s been almost 3 weeks and it still smells like grape!!!

Super interested in getting this when it comes out! I use the regular extreme purple mixed with some pink on my hair and I have highlights in my hair so it shows up more so in those areas but it even shows up on my natural hair (which is like this weird in-between blonde and brown color) but my roots are growing out and I really just want something that shows up at least a little on my roots to better blend where my roots are with where my highlights start so I feel like this color will be better for that...hopefully

This is a semi permanent, so you want to shampoo it before hand with something clarifying (not a moisturizing shampoo, nothing with ingredients that end in “-cone”) and do NOT condition it. Dry it without any styling products and then put this in. Then after letting it sit, rinse it out on its own-- don't add anything else to the hair. it's a conditioner so you don't need to add anything else to soften it! Good luck!
I can’t see anything on your natural brown. Sorry. But it colored your pre-colored hair nicely. I have dark brown hair and am about 15% gray and bought the Extreme Purple. Didn’t try it yet, it just arrived. I didn’t realize the Vibrant Purple for brown hair was a different formulation for brunettes! I’m still going to try the one I have. It will at least make the gray look cool, I hope. Thanks for the heads up on the tub! I have super short hair so I’ll rinse it in the sink-don’t want to scrub the tub! Does the daily conditioner stain your hands and tub too? Thanks!
Great! A little washed out in the tub today, but no staining. It looks really good in my dark hair. She didn't have to lift it bc I already had highlights. I bought some keracolor as that was cheap at my local Sally's.

But lady at professional hair salon, said it would take me months to get it to pale blonde. And it would be an expensive process. So I decided to change to a darkish purple color.
Hey Leah! So yes, those of us with dark hair do have to lighten to get any color to show. And she's 100% correct in terms of the process to get to pale blonde, especially if you dont want your hair to melt off!!! Luckily you don't need to lift TOO much to get purple to show up. Maybe about a mid-light brown. I would still recommend going the salon route for lightening because they can do it best without damaging the hair, that's what I did. I would get it lightened at the salon and then go home and put purple in by myself!
Hi, thanks for this. I think in a different video you showed the vibrant? Do you know how the for brown compares to the extreme? Or if diluted how it compares to the pastel? I am super-warm toned and probably wouldn't look good in something too blue, but love the idea of trying some purple in my hair... So far from overtone the colors that seem to look best on me are the rose golds and the pastel orange!
The Extreme is a bit more cool toned than the "for brown hair" version. A little more neon vs. deep and plummy if that makes sense. I didn't dilute any of them so I wouldn't be able to compare to the pastel.
I would use a permanent color and then maintain with overtone after you swim. If you only use overtone it will slip out of your hair with chlorine because it’s semi permanent
Aw thank you! It can be a blessing and a curse. In the summer it’s hot and I always get headaches from pony tails, but on the other hand I have a lot of options and it looks great in braids 😝
The color is absolutely beautiful. My only issue is how expensive it is, but like you said purple is a really good color because as it “fades” it just looks like a different shade of purple.
I had a very similar situation to you--botched dye job turned my hair magenta instead of purple. I went ahead and got overtone purple for brown hair and applied it, and while it did tone down a lot of the magenta, the purple is still very pink. Any tips?
So I also turned to Overtone after a botched dye job. And while it's initial application was definitely better than the alternative, my purple didnt come out this dark and rish. It honestly looks more like your hair before you used the Overtone. And between the deep applications my purple looks almost fuchsia even though I'm using the daily conditioner in ever shower. Any tips?
It prob depends on what shade you were putting it over, and which purple you used. I used Vibrant Purple over rose gold once and it didn't turn out as vibrant. Is there an option to strip the color and then use the deep conditioner?
How long does it stay before it washes out to the original color? And does it look natural if your hair was originally natural? Can you switch colors every couple months?
It's semi permanent so it will wash out in about 4-6 washes depending on the products I use (using the purple daily conditioner keeps it longer). As far as if it looks natural if your hair is a natural color, if your hair is the color of MY natural hair (the dark brown) it will be more of a tint. I did my hair burgundy with Lime Crime's Unicorn Hair Dye in chocolate cherry. It was okay. Bled and rubbed off on EVERYTHING! I was pink for a week on my back and ears. It was awful. I'm gonna try Overtone next. Might do red, maybe purple. Not sure

I think the color looks really good. Does it still bleed whenever u wash you hair next? I had tried plunky color and it stained my towels every time i got it wet for next two weeks. Did that happen with overtone?
It does bleed each time you wash your hair, but I never found it to stain towels except when I was swimming in pool water (since the chlorine strips a lot of color) but never after showering.
I also have purple balayage. My friend tried overtone for rose gold and it helped define the color more! Happy to hear that from her and seeing your video for verification that it Indeed does work! Besides using the overtone, what do you use for shampoo? And with the shampoo do you wash with cold water or do you just go with warm? My hair is naturally curly and more of a darker brown and it’s been pretty dry, so I’m trying to get a handle on the best products I can.

@@TheSefora84 I guess it just depends on how light your hair is! You can see the level of fading at the beginning of where my hair was at, that's typically the color I'd color over consistently.
If you only want to do the tips, I don't see why you'd have to separate the hair strands individually? maybe I'm misunderstanding. I would just take the color and work it through your ends.

Yes- for darker hair it’s going to be more of a hint that catches sunlight. If you’re a light/medium brown though, you’ll get a more obvious effect.

I would definitely get your hair bleached by a professional and then you can do the fun colors at home. That way you don't get damage!
If you do this to unbleached hair, it won't do much, she had bleached/colored hair, that's why the bottom is sos purple and the top is not.

The deep treatment definitely gives more moisture and shine. The daily conditioner definitely moisturizes but not as much.

You should also consider a merlot color if you like both red and purple, like a purply red color, you can make it with overtone too, you can get the purple color and then red and mix them.
Love your hair color! I recently dyed my hair a violet/purple shade (similar to the ends of your hair at the beginning of the video). I love the color and would love to keep it from fading. However, I realize this treatment changes the color entirely to a deep purple. So I am wondering do you have any recommendations for maintaining a color similar to what you have at the start of the video rather than changing it entirely.? Any help would be deeply appreciated! :)
If it's in the same color family you can mix it with conditioner & make it lighter. But just an FYI it bleeds everywhere.

@@catherinejones6925 6-8 washes depending on what else you're using. (color safe vs non-color safe products). sun exposure, heat exposure, chlorine, and other factors can affect your color as well.
I just dyed my hair blue and it wasn't nearly as dark as I wanted, so I got the overtone in blue. Got it in my hair now. Here's hoping it evens out!!

Hmmm I would get 2 just in case because I consistently used an entire jar if I was doing my whole head with OT. Another alternative is doing Arctic Fox Purple Rain which is half the price, and then using overtone when you wash your hair to keep the color vibrant.

Interesting! I think it would depend on your current hair color. Because if you already have dark brown hair I don't think you should mix-- the brown will probably overtake the formula.
After filming the video was your hair dying her hands whenever you touched it or your neck just by touching it or did the purple stay in your hair not transferring to your hands or neck
for the first few days but after the next time I wash it, not so much.
But what is the wash out like? How does it fade? How long does it last?
It's semi permanent and how long it lasts depends on sooo many factors (using color safe shampoo, exposure to sun, exposure to chlorine, exposure to heat, how often you wash your hair) but generally about 6-12 washes.

MmMMMMmmmmm so the conditioner doesn't deposit as much pigment as the deep treatment. In theory you COULD but I'd be afraid that it wouldn't come out even because the conditioner is really only for a boost.

Always color safe if you want to maintain it! Otherwise it will wash out pretty quickly.

Yes this would probably do really well for your highlight but it will give your darker hair a subtle tint like it did mine. Overall it sort of deepened my natural brown hair for a deeper look!
couldn't you get the same effect if you soaked all the hair in Arctic Fox Purple Rain dye? :/

Def with less product and minimal upkeep. I die for Purple Rain, I've used it for over a year, I don't need to retouch it for months.
I actually love AF Purple Rain! There are definitely some differences in the tone though, and I felt like this tinted more of my natural hair than AF does when I use it.
I’m purple rain right now and I have Uber think dark nearly black hair! I bleached first and used less then 2 oz of purple rain mixed equal with conditioner!!!! My hair is perfectly dark purple and it’s been almost 3 weeks and it still smells like grape!!!

For sure! The daily conditioner is more of a maintenance product where the treatment is what puts the most color in :)
Super interested in getting this when it comes out! I use the regular extreme purple mixed with some pink on my hair and I have highlights in my hair so it shows up more so in those areas but it even shows up on my natural hair (which is like this weird in-between blonde and brown color) but my roots are growing out and I really just want something that shows up at least a little on my roots to better blend where my roots are with where my highlights start so I feel like this color will be better for that...hopefully

This is a semi permanent, so you want to shampoo it before hand with something clarifying (not a moisturizing shampoo, nothing with ingredients that end in “-cone”) and do NOT condition it. Dry it without any styling products and then put this in. Then after letting it sit, rinse it out on its own-- don't add anything else to the hair. it's a conditioner so you don't need to add anything else to soften it! Good luck!

It was faded out Arctic Fox Purple Rain. Probably about 2 months of letting it fade...
I can’t see anything on your natural brown. Sorry. But it colored your pre-colored hair nicely. I have dark brown hair and am about 15% gray and bought the Extreme Purple. Didn’t try it yet, it just arrived. I didn’t realize the Vibrant Purple for brown hair was a different formulation for brunettes! I’m still going to try the one I have. It will at least make the gray look cool, I hope. Thanks for the heads up on the tub! I have super short hair so I’ll rinse it in the sink-don’t want to scrub the tub! Does the daily conditioner stain your hands and tub too? Thanks!

Great! A little washed out in the tub today, but no staining. It looks really good in my dark hair. She didn't have to lift it bc I already had highlights. I bought some keracolor as that was cheap at my local Sally's.

I LOVE the color of your hair 😍 idk if you'll see this comment but I have dark hair. So questions on what I should do for bleaching because my hairs black and not brown. I'm doingnow. But lady at professional hair salon, said it would take me months to get it to pale blonde. And it would be an expensive process. So I decided to change to a darkish purple color.
Hey Leah! So yes, those of us with dark hair do have to lighten to get any color to show. And she's 100% correct in terms of the process to get to pale blonde, especially if you dont want your hair to melt off!!! Luckily you don't need to lift TOO much to get purple to show up. Maybe about a mid-light brown. I would still recommend going the salon route for lightening because they can do it best without damaging the hair, that's what I did. I would get it lightened at the salon and then go home and put purple in by myself!

Hi, thanks for this. I think in a different video you showed the vibrant? Do you know how the for brown compares to the extreme? Or if diluted how it compares to the pastel? I am super-warm toned and probably wouldn't look good in something too blue, but love the idea of trying some purple in my hair... So far from overtone the colors that seem to look best on me are the rose golds and the pastel orange!
The Extreme is a bit more cool toned than the "for brown hair" version. A little more neon vs. deep and plummy if that makes sense. I didn't dilute any of them so I wouldn't be able to compare to the pastel.
I swim 2x a week will overtone work with my hair. I haven't dyed it myself ever.
I would use a permanent color and then maintain with overtone after you swim. If you only use overtone it will slip out of your hair with chlorine because it’s semi permanent

Aw thank you! It can be a blessing and a curse. In the summer it’s hot and I always get headaches from pony tails, but on the other hand I have a lot of options and it looks great in braids 😝
The color is absolutely beautiful. My only issue is how expensive it is, but like you said purple is a really good color because as it “fades” it just looks like a different shade of purple.

I had a very similar situation to you--botched dye job turned my hair magenta instead of purple. I went ahead and got overtone purple for brown hair and applied it, and while it did tone down a lot of the magenta, the purple is still very pink. Any tips?

So I also turned to Overtone after a botched dye job. And while it's initial application was definitely better than the alternative, my purple didnt come out this dark and rish. It honestly looks more like your hair before you used the Overtone. And between the deep applications my purple looks almost fuchsia even though I'm using the daily conditioner in ever shower. Any tips?
It prob depends on what shade you were putting it over, and which purple you used. I used Vibrant Purple over rose gold once and it didn't turn out as vibrant. Is there an option to strip the color and then use the deep conditioner?
How long does it stay before it washes out to the original color? And does it look natural if your hair was originally natural? Can you switch colors every couple months?
It's semi permanent so it will wash out in about 4-6 washes depending on the products I use (using the purple daily conditioner keeps it longer). As far as if it looks natural if your hair is a natural color, if your hair is the color of MY natural hair (the dark brown) it will be more of a tint. I did my hair burgundy with Lime Crime's Unicorn Hair Dye in chocolate cherry. It was okay. Bled and rubbed off on EVERYTHING! I was pink for a week on my back and ears. It was awful. I'm gonna try Overtone next. Might do red, maybe purple. Not sure

I think the color looks really good. Does it still bleed whenever u wash you hair next? I had tried plunky color and it stained my towels every time i got it wet for next two weeks. Did that happen with overtone?
It does bleed each time you wash your hair, but I never found it to stain towels except when I was swimming in pool water (since the chlorine strips a lot of color) but never after showering.
with that said, it WILL stain your shower each time.

I also have purple balayage. My friend tried overtone for rose gold and it helped define the color more! Happy to hear that from her and seeing your video for verification that it Indeed does work! Besides using the overtone, what do you use for shampoo? And with the shampoo do you wash with cold water or do you just go with warm? My hair is naturally curly and more of a darker brown and it’s been pretty dry, so I’m trying to get a handle on the best products I can.

It’s a pretty color over your other dyed hair but on your roots I don’t see anything much.

If you only want to do the tips, I don't see why you'd have to separate the hair strands individually? maybe I'm misunderstanding. I would just take the color and work it through your ends.

Slightly but not as much as the deep treatment. Bottom line though with the color that comes out of my hair when washing with shampoo + any of the overtone products, I need to bleach my tub after!

As long as you choose semi-permanent color, it will wash out. Semi-permanent coats the hair only it doesn't get into the follicle.
