I just listened to this through my Adam A77X's and I have to say, that Beyerdynamic just sounds like a record. It's smooth, forward, and larger than life. It just puts the vocal right where is supposed to be. The others sounded a bit lost by comparison, in my opinion. Thank you for your painstakingly detailed reviews!
I really enjoy these mic reviews. The best on UA-cam by far. If you can get your hands on a Sennheiser E935 it would be nice to compare it to the V7X among others. A lot of fakes E9xx though so be careful where you get it from.
Thanks Anton, great 'real life' comparison! V90r wins for me here, KMS105 sounds not that bad to me, either - my general experience with KMS105 is: while it might sound a little 'flat' / boring out of the box, it can take quite some post processing, which makes it rather versatile. Also, a transformer-based Pre can add some nice heft to it. And I'm sure this applies to V90r, too: it's such a shame it was discontinued by Beyerdynamics, I'd buy it right away...
@@AntonBrowne Thanks Anton, sadly it's not that easy any more to get one in good condition - I'm actually chasing a nice M500 since a while. ABBA used them a lot - great mic. I have a R121 which I sometimes put on vocals with nice results, but only with pop-screen and at least 8 inch distance - nothing for stage use...
Great review. If you aren’t yet tired of v7 and v7x work I would be interested in what an external foam windscreen would do to the sound. Perhaps a replacement screen for a Lewett would fit better than the ones designed for SM58
Would you say that the V90R is better than the M500? I'd like to get a Ribbon Microphone. My dad has a old M260 which is fantastic on my voice. But it's his not mine. And it is also a instrument mic more than vocal I believe. The V90R wasn't in production long and finding one has proven more difficult than a M500. Which would you prefer?
Sadly, I think I would go for the M500. I say sadly because one would hope that Beyerdynamic could copy and improve upon their earlier offering, but from the samples I have - 2 x V90r & 4 x M500, I feel the M500s have a slight lead. Sadly it's the same with my favourite M88s, the new one not as good.
@@AntonBrowne yeah that is a bit sad. I don't know why Beyer are doing this. But it seems to be a thing among all the legency brands (AKG, Beyer, Sennheiser, Shure, EV). Newer brands like Earthworks, Royer, Brauner and others. Who don't have the burden of legendary microphones weighing them down. And can innovate and experiment. Interesting that you say you're getting rid of your Icon Pro the same day I listed mine for sale. I have the SV33 and SR314 (love both), but I'm just not feeling the Icon Pro. You sound great on it to my ears, though. Why are you dumping it?
I bought dt 770. Terrible metallic harsh tin sounding headphones. Everybody recommends them besides few that I found out have similar opinion as me. Also how come mastered world hit songs sound bad in them with almost whistling piercey trebles and world famous singers having sibilants. Aren't mastered final songs supposed to sound immaculate on tracking monitoring headphones !? Another band wagons used by many because "everybody uses them" so ppl think they good without thinking twice

Actually, I think the M500 (older version of the V90r) is slightly better and quite easily available used. Make sure you get a good one, though.
