I believe that much of the magic of Super Mario is influenced by Star World, which has as much influence on the history of Dinosaur Land as on the history of Super Mario RPG. According to the Japanese Shogakukan guide to the Yoshi game, Star World played a pivotal role in the history of Yoshi's Island. Five shooting stars (implied as Star Road) came from the Star World's light one night, and one of them dropped the upper half of a fossilized egg into the lower half inhabited by contemporary monsters, resulting in Yoshi's hatching. These events also resulted in the resurrection of other dinosaurs, and the islands came to be known as Dinosaur Land. Considering that these shooting stars had this effect in Dinosaur Land, I do not doubt that the same has occurred in other places in the world, thus making it more magical. It's just a shame that Nintendo didn't know how to take advantage of this potential for Mario games
