I'm a 19 year old electrician from London and for some reason I really enjoy these videos even though looking at me you'd never expect it. The videos are great 👍
It's always a little sad to leave the familiarity of a place, esp. if you liked some of the people. But you are off to a new chapter of your life and will surely enjoy it more than working long hours for a big law firm. Best wishes! :)
Oh this surprisingly made tear up haha. Just want to share - I was a first year associate when COVID hit so I felt so isolated and disassociated from my job. I stumbled upon your tiktok and in some maybe weird way, I felt like I was working with you whenever you shared your days. You really gave me a lot of comfort back then (and til now!) Though I’m no longer part of a law firm, this video made me sentimental about that time in my life. Maybe it wasnt really that bad haha. Anyway, wishing you all the best and will be rooting for you!
ahh i’m so glad that we could be pseudo coworkers! starting as an associate during COVID would have been so tough. some parts of law firm life are probably as bad as you remember, but there’s definitely reason to be sentimental about the people and journey, as well :) thank you for all of your support!
I'm so glad I found your channel. I'm a Finance student working toward my Masters/ CPA cert and then on to Law School. I want to work in Securities Law/ M&A. I'm so excited and blessed to be on this journey and it's nice that the UA-cam algorithm is helping to bring me into these circles of people in industry. Good luck to you in your new career!!!
Cece, I currently work as a litigation assistant in a medium size firm. I stumbled upon your shorts. Every now and then I would like to pursue writing, so I’m super encouraged and inspired by you leaving such an incredible career to go on a different path. Now when you adventure in the unknown, you’ll really REALLY know whether you want to return to big law, or not! I’m not ready to venture out there yet, but until I get there, good luck to you Cece!! Not sure you will need it as you will do great! 😀🥰
As someone who is also in a transition period in life and feels a bit lost and scared, this video was somehow cathartic. Can't wait to watch you do incredible things with that special soul of yours💕
ex mgmt consultant here, felt the same the day I left my job😂 but I think I probably will go back this summer for a partner track career path again after been away for 4 years
I work as a paralegal for a firm in the PH and I recently quit my job to pursue bigger things ⚖ My last day with them is in two weeks and I've been having a hard time coping with the fact that I'm leaving my comfort zone/second home. Your love/break-up letter to the firm really spoke to me and made me tear up, because that's exactly how I feel about the firm I work for and you took the words right out of my mouth. Watching this vlog really helped me! It is inspiring and comforting. I found your channel by accident just this morning and I think it was fate because I've been feeling lost/anxious. Thank you and I hope you become happy in your next adventure!
i’m so glad to hear that, pearl! congrats on taking the next step forward in your life-you will always have a home at your firm, but taking the next step is so exciting and exactly where you need to be :)
I'm trying the solo thing too (but in I.T.) So I once bought a shirt in the U.K. from the French Connection (F.C.) clothing store, and the shirt literally read "FCUK IT" (no joking, literally "French Connection United Kingdom"). I had always planned to wear it on the last day of work in IT, but when that last day actually came I decided it was better to not leave with potential misconceptions. haha. But hey, well done on taking the leap as well!
LOL i remember seeing french connection shirts in high school and feeling ~scandalized~ well done to you too!! can't wait to see where this takes us :)
On to the next big adventure, I'm sure you will conquer whatever comes next!! On a side note, I've really been enjoying these vlogs! You have a knack for being in front of the camera :)
I think the answer for some people in law, banking and public accounting there should be a viable position at 30 to 35 hours per week. Obviously at reduced salary.
i was on reduced hours during the last two years, which was game-changing. i plan on talking about these measures (along with others) that i think would really benefit biglaw in my book!
I think their model is squeeze every ounce out from their employees. Due to there are endless supply of new recruits. Really what us wage earners need to calculate is our effect hourly rate. If you are working 70 hours a week making 200k your hourly rate is only $55. Not accounting for taxes. Taxes reduces $55 by another $16 per hour.
I work in a mediumish sized firm in another country and am lucky enough to have reduced hours…definitely a game changer, but I still feel the pressure and stress because the deadlines stay the same! Did you get to work from home on Fridays? 😅 Literally my first thought was “why is no one in the office on Fridays?” 😂😂
Cece did you have any concerns about doing UA-cam alongside your day job? Did anyone express any consternation or uneasiness as social media being a sort of side hobby for you?
i made sure to review the firm’s social media policy beforehand and also speak with the social media coordinator to make sure everything was on the up-and-up. workplaces haven’t quite agreed on how to treat employee social media use though, so it can be tricky. i address this in a tiktok: vm.tiktok.com/TTPd56oG4V/
got staffed on a type of matter that i didn't want to do and staffing was not receptive to my preferences in terms of what work i wanted. a few microaggressions. it was clear to me that my upward trajectory there was limited and not in the practice area that i wanted to practice in
mega-firms tend to be the worst at flexibility bc they're so big haha. don't sweat it too much though--lateraling is pretty easy, and there are certain partners/practice groups that are really great about taking into account associate preferences. good luck!
I think a place nicknamed MoFo. A friend of mine worked there as a paralegal (in a different city), and the lawyers & experience turned him off from wanting to go to law school.

Think it's worth a shot to apply? Thank you!
@@youracherrynut442 Nothing wrong with applying but the top big law firms usually won't hire someone who hasn't come through their summer associate program or has no big law experience.
I totally understand - such a bittersweet feeling - when I left my first firm it was basically like a breakup. But onwards and upwards!!
Yeah! Remember my „first breakup“ too!

The facilities people are so considerate to get those things prepared for you! So sweet!!
they’re seriously the best 🥺 one of them helped me cart everything into my uber home, even

Hello, I just started watching your videos and like them very much. How were you able to get all of your boxes downstairs and onto the train?

I agree. Do these employers not realize that creating a better quality of life will vastly improve employee morale and reduce turnover?
