Thanks Bryan for showing the complete workflow of this crazy great machine - it looks very tempting to get one myself.
Glad you liked it JurBols! The machine is so amazingly user friendly for such a complex tool. Even though I don't use it all the time. It is easy to pick back up and remember exactly what to do! Thanks so much for watching! :)
Thank you for taking the time to put this video together. Much appreciated.
My pleasure! I love this tool. I will be using it soon to work on a logo for my shop! Really is an amazing tool!
A good explanation. I enjoy your channel. You make things seem accessible.
I appreciate that Paul! Thank you so much for watching! Have a great sunday!
Just got my shaper. You did a very good job explaining things. So thank you!!! I'll be sure to follow!
Awesome! You will love it. So easy to use. So intuitive you won't believe. Best of luck with it and thanks for watching!
Excellent instructional! I really want one now. Thanks!
Thanks so much Dan! I appreciate it and best of luck, they really are quite amazing!
Yoooo Big man. Your video was really helpful. Much love. Spanz from Nigeria
Haha! Thanks so much! Very cool to see someone from Nigeria on here! Thanks so much for watching! :)
been trying to find a basic video on the maker.. thank you!!!
Glad you liked it! It really is such a super easy tool to use! Thanks for watching Oreoninja!
Very cool!
Yeah, it's a pretty amazing tool! I wish I used it more! :) Thanks for watching Scratch!
was hoping to see the finished product....good video, good explanations, odd pop ups, but that's your thing. finished product was missed
Haha! I can't wait to see the finished project too! :) I intend on finishing it up in the next week or so. There will most likely be a video on it as well. If you look at my community tab, you can see a preliminary look at what the engraving looks like after a bit of sanding! Thanks for watching Ed!
Very informative. I'm buying one soon and it's nice to have a little insight of what to expect. Thanks.
You'll love it Larry! This is one of my older videos, so sorry you had to put up with some of the bad editing etc! Thanks so much for watching!
Well done
Thanks So much Taylor! I appreciate the comment and view!
great explainer video man! Thanks, looking at this investment before the end of the year and I'm in! Thanks again and Merry Christmas!
Love this tool! I think you will love it as well. It is really so intuitive and easy to use. I don't use it every day, but when I do, it isn't a tool that you have to relearn how to use. It is so so simple! Best of luck to you! :)
Thank you for this video. Lot of detail on how the shaper works and how to use it to make the inlay. Would have been great to see you finish the piece but I know this was mainly to highlight the shaper. thank you.,
There is actually a picture of the finished piece on my community page on youtube. And I have a video finally finishing up this table coming out in about a week or so ago. thanks so much for watching Alexrobles!
Thanks for the vid. Really clear and you answer a lot of the questions I would have. Im very tempted to get one even though it’s even more expensive in the UK. Not taking up yet more space in the workshop is one big advantage over conventional CNCs. I think my big worry is that the second I buy it, I know DeWalt and the rest on the gang will start mass producing them. Thanks again.
Haha! Yeah, its definitely a luxury tool. I use it about 10 times a year. The nice thing about it, is it is so simple to use, I don't feel like I have to relearn how to do everything like I do with other less used tools. Thanks for the comment and thanks for watching theBurvs!
Very well done video. I’m really wondering if this Shaper Origin will work for my projects!
It truly is an amazing tool! The only thing it doesn't do or at least easily is depth variances. Hope it works for you, and thanks for watching! :)
Great video! Have you tried the newest version of these? I want to know if I could use a beefed up version of this to cut stair stringers
Hey Carter! Thank you so much. Unfortunately I haven't. I would recommend checking out your local Rockler if you have on near you. I know the one by me actually has one on display! Thank you so much for watching and your comment.
Thanks, nice tutorial, mine just shipped today, what kind of resin do you like to use
You’ll love it Mike! Thanks so much for watching!
I would love to see the final result 😢
You and me both! That project is still sitting in my basement. I hope to have it knocked out within the month! Thanks so much for watching!
So, is this just for engraving? Or could you yse it to cut mortise and tenon joints?
Oh for sure, there is an accessory that you can get (or you can make your own) called the shaper workstation that makes this very simple to do. I have the workstation, however I haven't had a chance to make mortise and tenons with it yet. You should check out shaperhub.com to see some of the projects people create. Its pretty cool. It isn't as versatile as a cnc but it is great for creating precise inlays or templates that you can use on your projects. I wish I used it more often!
Thanks for the video. Having to use the web or proprietary software makes it just too niche for me. I like to go out to my shop and work when the mood strikes me. Especially when the internet is out.
Well, In theory you can use a thumb drive to transfer files, as long as you have them in an svg format. I have not tried that route as the web service is so much easier. But I get it! Also the web service doesn't cost anything which is nice. I usually just use my phone for internet as I don't get internet in my barn. Thanks for watchign dberry99! :)
I'd seen these used before but they didn't show how it worked, so I had my doubts about how precise it could actually be. So I was totally ok with not being able to afford one. I wish you'd shown a closeup shot of the finished engraving pre-epoxy. If you have a closer shot, maybe you can include it in the reveal vid? Either way, now that I understand how it works better, I want one--I mean I *really* want one. But since that doesn't change the fact that I can't afford it, I just have one more thing to say:
Damn you Flynndogg!
First of thank you so much for watching Bill! Yes, the router is incredibly precise, You can go to 1/100 of an inch. In fact a lot of times you cut off your lines, and then do a final clean up right on the line. I've never seen such a complex machine that is so easy to use. The price tag is quite heavy though, but if you do any engraving work or inlay work you can't beat it. I have not yet made templates with it yet, but I know that is something that it is very useful for. I will post some pictures on the channel to show what the final product looks like. I ran into a little bit of a time crunch in getting the video out as I was going to show the final product, but the epoxy was still tacky!
Is the third grid placement just hang the bit off the edge on the perpendicular side of the first 2 placements?
Excellent question. I'm away on vacation right now, but it is either the second or the 3rd selection. The nice thing is the screen explains it as you are going though it, so it really is quite hard to mess up. But you will take two bottom measurements and one side measurment that is perpendicular if I remember correctly.
Thank you so much for this great opportunity to learn more about the shaper origin!
But my bank account might not thank you as you have made me want to buy one 🤣
I know right?! If only it was a little bit cheaper. It is however a bit cheaper than a large CNC. That's kind of the reason I got it. However, it does not have all the capacities of a large CNC! Thank you so much for watching!
@@FlynndoggWoodwork indeed! But the price is also here to remind that it has a great AI that can also enable newbies (myself included) to start using a router. In my side I already made the jump and got a plunge router and trim one as well
Oh Nice! So glad you are taking the "plunge" into routers! I hope you enjoy your new tools!
How much sanding did you end up doing with the project? That was a bit of epoxy. Thanks for the video and good luck.
Oh man, I still don't want to talk about it! :) It was a bear, took me forever!!! Thanks for watchign comfortablynumb!
Without seeing the finished product, we have no idea how well it works.
There is a picture of this design in my community tab if you want to check it out. It turned out great. I was a little rushed to get this video out if I remember, so I didn't have time to show the finished product, should have though! Thanks for watching!
you kept off camera the procedure to or how you actually located positioning How long did that take you?
Less than a minute. Since you see the image on the screen of the background, you just need to place, adjust (which you can do with your fingers similar to a phone) and plop it onto the image on the screen. PRobably should have shown that. Thanks for the question and thanks for watching Jeff!
Given how much the Shaper Origin cost, plus their subscription to their studio software is it just better to invest into a CnC instead? I am thinking of getting one, but given all the negative comments about SO I am very leery of buying one. What are you thoughts after having this for some time now
This is a great question. And probably the most important question. I will say, I'm still in the market for a cnc even though I have the shaper. The shaper is great, and I don't regret purchasing it but It will not compeletly replace a CNC. Also, you really don't need that Studio subscription. I've never used it and I've been able to accomplish everything I want without it. So don't let that deter you. Great question and thanks so much for watching Lordhog!
Once you've uploaded your design into the shaper origin, does the router need to stay connected to the internet while it's actually engraving?
Great Question. They only thing you need to connect to the internet for is downloading the SVG or accessing the svg. so you are not consistently accessing the internet. You don't need the internet at all if you use a thumb drive.
Awesome, about to hit the buy it now button,,,😊
@@jayneedham3041 oh nice! It really is such an easy and user friendly tool to use. You may not use it every day, but when you do, you won't regret the purchase! Best of luck to you! :)
😊 no such thing as too many tools.
If I wanted to engrave a shamrock or a Buffalo how difficult would it be to get the image
It’s really not that difficult at all. You can really take any image and bring it into Inkscape and then trace a SVG file onto it. It works best with black and white images, but you can do it with color as well. I’m not a huge Inkscape user, but I do use it occasionally for that purpose. There are tons of videos out there on how to do it! Hope this helps!

Thanks for the reply
I’m debating this over a cnc
This looks more versatile also it doesn’t take up table space
My only other concern is the tape for scanning
@@jim6402 yes, that tape is kind of expensive. If you are doing smaller projects they do have the workstation that is available but it is also pretty pricy. I've seen a lot of people actually create reausable workspaces with a sheet of plywood as well. All great ideas, I've just never gotten around to making something like that
@@jim6402 I love this tool and would get it again... but I still want a CNC if that helps. This tool is great for engraving etc. But it doesn't have a great 3D carving capability.
it does matter what router bit you have in for the grid
It's true that they recommend the engraving bit, but I've never had a problem with any bit I place in the router. I guess it depends on how precise you need your grid to be, but for my purposes, I've never had a problem using any of the bits (the grids have always been completely square horizontally and vertically), especially if you are referencing the shank of the bit. I only use the grid for a reference point, so I tend to always have to maneuver the svg vertically or horizontally on the grid anyway. Thank you so much for watching!
Sound effects are annoying
Yep, That's what I've heard. I'm minimizing them now and turning the volume down on them as well. I appreciate the feedback!
The sound effects were good - the first 50 times. Then, not so much.
Oh this video was when I was first starting out and just starting to learn UA-cam sorry about all the annoying graphics and sound effects.
PLEASE don't use so many sound and visual effects ! having a hard time watching video till the end.
Thanks for the feedback Martijn! I'm actually going to start reducing those in the near future. It's easier for me as well! I appreciate you watching!
You didn’t show what the final product looked like? What?!
I know! Someone else commented on that as well. If you go to my community page you can see the results. It turned out really nice. I should have shown in the video, but I believe I was under some time pressure at the time and couldn't wait for the epoxy to dry.
Think twice BEFORE you buy this machine. Why?
Firstly, they want $199 for a software update. This isn't a joke - $199 for the auto-pass software feature, which allows for automatic multi-pass. (While this feature is not essential, it speeds up many jobs significantly.)
Secondly, Shaper Studio, an online service, will cost over $100 yearly ( with a free version available that has very limited functionality.)
Thirdly, the tape and bits are overpriced. (You can use a label printer and free templates to get tape for $3, rather than paying $20 for the same product.)
Thanks for sharing your opinion Krysiek. I haven't found the need for the software or the need to upgrade the studio. I'm sure there are people that need this functionality, but I think what comes out of the box is quite robust. I haven't paid a cent since I purchased the machine and I have never ran into any functionality issues with the machine. Thank you for sharing your opinion though!
Love your video but you don't need all the sound effects and pop in pictures. I know this is popular but it's so distracting to your message. You are a great teacher and don't need these.
I 100% agree. I've moved away from doing all that. This was a pretty early video for me. A lot of my earlier videos, were really quite bad! :( Thanks so much for putting up with it!
I thought this was going to be a fitness video.
😂 are you trying to tell me something! Haha!
@@FlynndoggWoodwork No man, you're beautiful the way you are. BTW, I can't believe that you don't have a Woodpecker's drill guide. I took the liberty of sending this on to you: youtube/FX3sTw2YXkg
@@themeat5053 Haha! That's what my mom used to say! :) Oh I would love to have that woodpeckers drill guide but my wallet is already empty! Haha! I'm sure it is great tool but man. Sometimes I wonder about their pricing!
So annoying
