Y'know I just figured Stephen was unusually lucky at wastepaper basketball, but maybe all this time he's been holding out on us that he's got mad game lol
And we need wholesome content, man. I have been experienceing a recurring urge to build a blanket fort and I interpret this as a need to find something simple and wholesome to cling to. I am here for this kind of video.
@Olive_O_Sudden He certainly had a good sense of humor, seems well balanced in life and confident❣️-- Do our comments sound like we’re meat 🥩 inspectors? 🤷🏻♀️
@@NJones-lb1ln Yes, definitely charming, but also physically beautiful. I try not to sound like a middle-aged lecherous spinster (I am only two of those things), so I hope my comment didn't come across as rude.😳
The trick isn't being able to physically DO the jump, it's being able to pull it out of your toolbox and put it into action with only split second timing with a million other considerations happening at the same time. That's what makes him a professional.
I’m 38, going on 39 in April. My knees are shit and I can’t run as well. I relate to this bc I always think I’m still in my 20s when I play sports, but my body doesn’t agree. Good luck, Asher!
You guys are making me feel better. I lost one knee at 58 and the other at 60, and it's REALLY irritating!! I can't believe I'm out of commission at THIS age.
*same* .... lol ....when I was 38 I still thought I was in my teens and 20s and acted like it as often as I could in activities. One knee is still fine, the other fully healed from ACL & MCL tears @ 28 but didn't make it to 48 without permanent damage that improved but won't 100% bounce back (meniscus). Also April b-day, gonna be *58* this year. So it's *far less often* that I still think I can do (or actually manage to do) things that I did, or things like I did, in my athletic younger adult years 😆 Still relatable though! 😃 Break a leg Asher! Strictly in figurative sense! 😉😁😄
I'm a 43y.o guy. Several weeks ago, I (foolishly) went to my local courts while I was drunk, and despite giving a really good account of myself (or at least so I thought), I was cursing myself (and the ageing process in general) for around a week after the fact. Fortunately, I can still hit moderate jogging sessions on a regular, but it ain't anywhere near what it used to be.
I've never been this excited about a basketball event, and you all better check in once a month, I need to see the results. success or failure, what a legend.
Fantastic idea and *LOVE* every part of it (and Asher is awesome), while looking forward to the coming installments. Love the inspired originality, following an irl everyday sort of moment to make it bloom into entertainment befitting this stage!
Women need this kind of self-confidence and support. I mean, at minimum, everyone should have fun shooting for their dreams. Asher isn’t pushing anyone else down. He’s just dreamin for himself, ya know?
Okay, no digs at home schooling, man. My two oldest made it through public school… sort of… they each had different struggles but each ended up with a diploma. BUT my youngest, with her anxiety, Autism and raging ADHD, could not cope in the public school setting past 5th grade and had to switch to homeschool due to panic attacks. Luckily for us, the district had a particular school whose only purpose was to support parents who wanted to home school their kids. This could have been due to homelessness or the kid being an actor (it was Southern California) but in our case it was anxiety and panic attacks. And we had the same curriculum as the school did. Seems to have sunk in, too. She’s currently taking the GED in Texas because apparently, from my extensive research since moving here, their approach is “well, we didn’t want anyone to be able to home school but y’all threw a fit so fine, have it your way, just do what you want, I guess. Write her a frickin’ diploma for all we care and send us a copy, see if we lift a finger to help you though.” And so far she hasn’t had any trouble passing the sample tests or the language arts portion. Math is her weakest subject though… and that’s next! Sorry, my point is, some of us home school because public schools can’t seem to handle accommodating students despite the laws saying they must work with the needs of the individual. In some ways, it really isn’t practical to expect them to accommodate every distinct need, but in many ways, they go out of their way to get around it. Anyway, back to the wholesome video.
Why is a 38 year old this banged up already? I've got a few injuries from contact sports, but that's crazy that he can't jog anymore. What is that, why are 30 something's falling apart?!
Did you see Stephen make that shot at the end? Stephen Colbert has got game. Get him into the celebrity game during All-Star Weekend, I say. Better yet, we've seen Stephen Colbert beat Stephen Curry at waste paper basketball. Let's see Stephen vs Stephen in a Three-Point Contest at All-Star Weekend!
It'll be extra rad if ya'll can find another *"Prove It!"* worthy set up 7 or 8 months from now too! Repeating the bit might be a tall order, but every one of them doesn't need to be tall. 😜
I don’t know if it was an oversight or great restraint, but did they not notice the name of the intramural team? Howler Moneys? The team that brought us the “oo oo ah ah” segment missed this opportunity?
The man has a three inch vertical. I'm 51 and I can jump higher than he can. (I used to be able to dunk but I lost that abiilty about 20 years ago lol)
Doubt that rim is 10ft. Stephen Colbert is 5'11 and dude is taller than him. Could be the angle of the camera, but it looks like that room is more than 4 ft taller than dude trying to dunk.
Oh, Asher missed a golden opportunity when Stephen asked him "How you feelin', Champ, how you feelin'?. Feelin' OK?" He should've replied with "Well, what I mean is uhh, I feel good, but it's early and I need to bring it and leave it all on the court. We can do this." I love boilerplate meaningless sports replies. Absolutely go ape over them. You can spot 'em with how they start "Well, what I mean is uhh..."
6:15
"See you in the summer!"
"You work for me still."
"Alright, I'll see you tomorrow" 🤣
Asher Perlman's cartoons are some of the most funny single-frame comic strips on the planet. He deserves all of his success.
6:28 - Steven drilling that shot right at the fade out! Damn impressive!
Y'know I just figured Stephen was unusually lucky at wastepaper basketball, but maybe all this time he's been holding out on us that he's got mad game lol
Rushed to the comments to read this.
Segment needed 10 more seconds to show the reactions to that!
Right?!
In the taping he missed the first and swished the second (what you see here). Still a baller hoopin’ in his suit
This shows how genuinely sweet and thoughtful Stephen is. Please do more segments like this ❤ Let Stephen be Stephen more!!
And we need wholesome content, man. I have been experienceing a recurring urge to build a blanket fort and I interpret this as a need to find something simple and wholesome to cling to. I am here for this kind of video.
And Stephen asking if it's for charity is just what he does & who he is, too. I wonder if that'll get added in along the way. 🤞🥰🤞
"Is this for charity? No sir." I know Seth made his writers on-air people but I'm glad Colbert is doing this now.
They've been doing that since the 60s lol even 90s look at Conan, lol
Seth Green?
@@ThatOpalGuyOh do you have a treat in store. Seth Meyers.
Seth have them truly shine
Funny, I’m more familiar with Asher than with Colbert.
Go get 'em, Asher! Rooting for you!!!
That was totally enjoyable & I am genuinely looking forward to the updates over the next 6 months. Go Asher!!
This is the light and refreshing happy content that 2025 needs.
Go Asher!!!
What a fantastic way to keep yourself employed for at least 6 more months
lol, yeah, and being talented in the humor dept helps him plenty too 😄
14 week contracts were common on humor shows back in the day
Damn, nothing but the net for Stephen at the very end!! 🏀
With his cue cards still in hand lol. Need that extended reaction clip
that was my immediate response too! Was a great shot.
@@skyyoung8114 right?!
@@skyyoung8114 great point, I was aware he was still holding them at first then forgot about it.
His 2nd shot, but who cares?! Nice swish!!! 👏🤩
Asher is a great cartoonist, one of the best around rn
Love how Stephen just snuck a basket in there at the end 👏🏽👏🏽👌🏽
Asher! You csn do it…we believe in you!
Any self-esteem is part delusion
Love Stephens swish at the very last frame.
This has been my favorite thing I've seen so far this year.
Nice swish, Stephen!!! 👏🤩
Stephen just dropping the rock like that! 🤯
I once pulled a muscle dunking Oreos.
At least you were able to chug all the milk to keep from drowning...
You ever double stack?
My back popped….
😂😂😂😂😂😂
I'm invested! This was a lovely new segment
Damn, that man is stunning.🔥
I hope they mention some of the comments like this next month for the update...

"Reading the game"
I'm curious about "Well, this is me." Gonna look for it.
I enjoy seeing segments from the staff/team for the show.
Ok this is fun and I like Asher lol things are bad when this is what we look forward to ,but I’ll take this !
This is exactly what tv was made for.
I’m 38, going on 39 in April. My knees are shit and I can’t run as well. I relate to this bc I always think I’m still in my 20s when I play sports, but my body doesn’t agree. Good luck, Asher!

yup, huzzah!
2 points inside the paint from COl - BEERRRR!!!!!😂🎉🎉🎉
The fact that Stephen got nothing but net...also 'Lefty Jews' caught me off guard 😂
I have that book - it's pretty funny!
They REALLY gonna cut away as Stephen SWISHES THE MIDRANGE?!
I wish I had his determination and Colberts support

This is a very "Letterman" bit. Very funny.
That was hilarious. What a dry funny guy Asher is albeit deluded! But hey can't wait to be proven wrong! 🙃
Finally, some Letterman-esque goofiness coming back. Love love love Colbert. THANK You for switching stuff up from just "trump trump blah blah".
I'll 2nd that!
That thumbnail says “NO HE CANT DUNK..”
When you dunk you, at no point, contort your body into this position 😂😂
Nailed it!
"We lost every game" pretty much homeschooling in a single sentence right there.
Professional comedy writer, New Yorker cartoonist, published author, featured on Late Night with Stephen Colbert. That sounds like winning to me.

Go Asher!!!!
Unless he sandbagged this first attempt, there is no way this fella is gonna dunk in six months - but I’m rooting for him!

Asher is a handsome fella.
Totally agree! 👍🏻

Good segment. In Asher's defense, that hoop was at least 11ft.
Now I have something to look forward to
Can see how uncoordinated he is from the first dribble.
Nice layup
hopefully cbs gets him a top trainer. if so, i think he could possibly do it.
A great example of what the education world calls "The Illusion of Competence."

its a shame that Asher Perlman's arms were crossed after the cut. release the uncut version of however many or few attempts it took to get that shot!
wonder what charity they'll pick to work with. :) - as long as you keep at it that's better than nothing.
