      No, he didn't build that. He was just the architect. Many engineers designed and built it.

    That wouldn’t look out of place on a mountainside overlooking the ocean somewhere in present-day Brazil.
    The sexiest part is, it was meant to have stores and schools integrated into it, too: a complete urban community with a bucolic wilderness feel.
    I wish I had both the money and the acreage to get the ball rolling on my own arcology.

    As a Canadian, who lived in Habitat '67 as a girl, it was amazing. It's still a joy for me to look at. :-)

      I have been involved with many construction projects .My question with no floor underneath many of the apartments and all that glass, how cold was it?

      @@Jay-vr9ir Not cold at all; insulated & properly functioning. Homes in Canada are built to withstand the winters. :-)

      @@gilliantherese7202 I am Canadian and work on construction projects and many homes in Canada are very poorly built and not insulated properly . All for the sake of time and money .

      @@Jay-vr9ir I am also Canadian & all of the homes that I grew up in (in '3' provinces), were very well built & insulated properly. I can only go with what I know from my own & my family's experience.

      @@gilliantherese7202 I just saw something else on UA-cam , regarding Habitat and they did mention the high cost of heating the units , due to the fact that all three walls are exposed . Also there are glass corridors , that are very cold in the winter .

    Love this and even had considered buying at some point but was discouraged by the INSANE monthly fee of CAD 3000+ on top of the over a million CAD buy price. These days only upper middle class and up can afford to move in there

      And the asbestos in the walls, remember in 1967 asbestos was widely used to insulate house at the time

      its not suppose to be painted because of the concept of brutalism. the raw brutal look of nature is what gives it its beauty . that was the idea behind it.

    Structurally it's an astonishing feat of imagination but aesthetically the ugly concrete material does make it less easy to love. Surely a lick of paint on the outside wouldn't damage the integrity of the concept.

      I totally agree. Painting the cubes in various tasteful shades of green and blue for instance to make it blend in more with the trees/plants and the Saint Lawrence River (and to seal the concrete as protection against weathering) would make it look much more friendly.

    I'm a tard, for a cape cod..💁💁💁💁💁
    ...........if a building,or home,church,factory,school,business,structure
    is not in the "cape cod" style......I am steadfastly against it......and I will protest orderly, yet vehemently...... have been known to be institutionalized on occasion ....💁💁💁

      Only a fool would think that any poor person would be living in a place such as the one we just viewed.
