Yay! You made it!
The director, Michael Giacchino, also created the score for Werewolf by Night. He is mostly known as a composer, and has scored several movies, like Lightyear, The Planet of the Apes trilogy, Rogue One, The Batman, Zootopia, including a few Marvel movies, the Todd Holland Spiderman movies
I hope werewolf by night gets a sequel
"Whoever knows fear burns at the touch of the Man-Thing"
Always liked that his name is Jack Russell as in Jack Russell Terrier. Appropriate for a werewolf.
“Whatever knows fear burns at the Man-Thing’s touch!”
I WANT MORE OF THIS SOOOO BAD!!! I loved how weird, campy, and stylized it was.
As an "odd person out" by not seeing many of the Marvel movies, I have to say 'Werewolf by Night', 'Loki', and 'Moon Knight' were some of the most unexpectedly delightful shows I've seen in recent years.
Thank you for reacting to this fantastic movie/show!
Honestly phase four is sooo underrated it has so many great shows and introduces alot cool characters alot people were very unfamiliar with
Sooo glad you watched the black & white version first vs the color one. I think it works soo much better.
Yes you are right, Mobius did mention werewolves and vampires when first talking to Loki. The Marvel Special Feature category label is used for one offs and/or to help introduce characters that may get more exposure later. So definitely more to come of these.
Another one that works much better in black and white is The Mist.
This and the Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special were so fun and well done!
Fun fact: The creators of Marvel's Man-Thing and DC's Swamp Thing were room mates at the time they created both. AFAIK neither DC or Marvel tried to sue the other one for it.
That’s so cool!
That's crazy if true
Marveli didn't sue DC because Man-thing was so similar to Heap.
DC did a lot more with Swamp Thing.
In the comics, Ted is typically shown as being basically mindless. He's empathic and is drawn towards strong emotions. Fear enrages him and causes his body to secrete a caustic substance, thus, whoever knows fear burns at the touch of...the Man-Thing.
Jack in the comics could turn into a werewolf at will and retain his intelligence, but had no control whatsoever during a full moon. That's probably changed over the years, as it's been decades since I've read anything with him in it.
In the comics, Werewolf by Night is linked to Moon Knight's origin story. Later, they COMPLETELY retconned Moon Knight. But originally, Moon Knight was a mercenary, and he did not have DID. He got his powers by being scratched by a Werewolf, and so his powers would wax and wain according to the phases of the Moon. His costume was woven from silver threads, and the throwing stars were made from silver because he specialized in hunting werewolves.
werewolf by night 32 is moon knights first appearance
Much preferred the original Moon Knight with all the Egyptian stuff.
ted aka manthing is a nexus being in the comics. incredibly strong dude. In the comics, a nexus being is any person or thing that has the power and capability to drastically affect probability and the timeline. These Marvel characters are rare, but a variant of them exists in every reality and serves as a temporal anchor point for that reality in the multiverse. He was a man at one time, but can't go back to a human. He was working on a super soldier serum type of thing, and when the bad guys came for it, he injected it into himself to hide it, and he wrecked his car in the swamps of the Florida everglades and some bad juju happened and he transformed into man thing. He is one of my favorite comic characters.
The monster (known as Man-Thing in the comics) is called Ted because he was once a human: Dr. Theodore Sallis. He cannot turn back into a human, though. In the comics he ended up being the supernatural guardian of an interdimensional nexus in the Florida Everglades.
Also, one of these days I'm going to make a supercut of every reactor ever shouting "Put it in the crack!" during that scene where Jack is trying to set the bomb on the wall.
6:53 That's not a cigarette burn. It's a marker to indicate that the end of the current spool of film has been reached and the projectionist should get ready to install the next one.
Can confirm. Worked as a projectionist one summer in an old one-screen theater, and it was the first time I was ever booed. I mis-timed the manual switch-over, and there were a few seconds of blackness. Very embarrassing.
Love the reaction! Thanks for all you do. 😊
That is colloquially known as a "cigarette burn."😊
Next she hulk and black panther wakanda forever and guardians of the galaxy holiday special
Yay! Werewolf by Night!!!
The change effect happened in almost real time too. The flashing of the lights helped hide 5 or 6 stunt people in the various stages of the transformation.
This is one of the few MCU projects where I literally knew nothing about it before I watched it. I had no clue what characters were in it or anything. Even by the end of it, there was only one character I recognized at all (Man Thing aka Ted), and it was a character I knew basically nothing about from the comics other than what he looked like and his name, because I'd never read any Man Thing comics, I'd just seen them in the shop. I had zero expectations going into this, and I ended up absolutely loving everything about it. They did such a fantastic job of making this an homage to classic monster flicks, and I was surprised at how invested I got in the main characters, and in finding out more about this whole side of the MCU. I was really impressed!
This was directed by Michael Giacchino who did the music to LOST, the MCU Spider-Man trilogy, Doctor Strange, Thor Love and Thunder, Rogue One, Ratatouille, Up, The Incredibles, Dawn and War for the Planet of the Apes and much more
Such an underrated show for sure, I really wanted more of these Marvel Studios special presentations I wish they had continued it. Werewolf by Night is top notch!
they are sorta seting up a team up with blade, werewolf by night, black night and such hehe. though with covid who knows what changed.
The first comic appearance of WWBN was followed in the very next issue by the intro of the Darkhold (...from WandaVision) :)
I really loved this show!
Love this one.
Great reaction ❤
I loved the flaming tuba😄
One of my favorite MCU projects this is fire. 🔥
Yassss!!! I jumped to this video sooo fast when I saw that you reacted to it. I love Ted so much 🥲
I like the little movie very mutch. So sweet 😊. Bernal perfect ❤
I'm glad you watched it 👍
This was directed by Michael Giacchino who also composed the music (the job he usually does).
One of the most delightful parts of the whole thing: I love that they gave him the chance to tackle such a different part of the film-making.
Loved this! I hope we see some more spooky shows from Marvel. Loved your reactions too. 🐺🖤
18:00 Man-Thing appeared like Mr. X from Resident Evil 😂💪
Awesome reaction guys 😊
Love the show guys! Fun fact Ted (Man-Thing) is a nexus being like Scarlett witch is. That same area where the book was in Dr Strange last movie is where he rules in the comics. Not confirmed but it is assumed this world is not same as main MCU timeline. Elsa Bloodstone is a big Blade character and on her own comics also
Dr Theodore Ted Sallis is Man-Thing, team The Midnight Son's... Including Blade and Elsa Bloodstone Dr Strange Johnny blaze etc.. Love you guys reactions to the unknown..🌍
Jack Russel's book Werewolf By Night is most famous for introducing Marvel's Moon Knight. Also a series starting Oscar Isaacs. Werewolf By Night vol. 1 #32. August 1975 writer Doug Moench and artist Don Perlin (who also drew Ghost Rider along with Mike Ploog). 😮
What the hell is that? That's Ted! Ted Sallis a.k.a. The Man-Thing. "Whoever knows fear burns at the touch of The Man-Thing!". A former scientist turned swamp creature. He resides in the Nexus of Realities which happens to reside in the swamp. 😂
DC has a swamp creature also called Swamp Thing. Man-Thing came out in May of 1971, Swamp Thing in July 1971. 😅. Swamp Thing is a plant elemental. Man-Thing is more of a horror monster. 😮
Here are some interesting facts about werewolf by night. Werewolf by night first introduction was through Moon Knight. Jack Russell was family was cursed by the dark hold and the reason he looks like a old school werewolf is because later in life he's able to remain in wolf form while still maintaining his personality with the ability to speak normally. Elsa bloodstone differ from the comic books because in the comic she was a vampire but the MCU Elsa seems to be just human with the bloodstone giving her super strength speed a healing factor with eternal life. Man thing real name is Ted and he was a failed super soldier attempt that sparked the protector of the Nexus between the regular world and supernatural. Like the away station in Doctor strange multiverse of madness that fought in between the universes man thing is a guardian of one of those stations. Ted also has been a champion on the planet sakaar where Hulk got stranded on.
I'm not an expert on Elsa Bloodstone, but nothing I have seen has ever portrayed her as a vampire in the comics. She fights a lot of vampires and she was bit by Nosferatu but the Bloodstone choker she wears not only protects her from the effects of vampirism, it also cured Nosferatu. I don't think it's possible for her to become a vampire.
Elsa is a vampire in the comic books and the only reason they didn't go with that for the MCU is because that would take the spotlight off of blade.
@@nvp8191 Can you point me to an issue where she is revealed as a vampire? Or something online that lists being a vampire in her origin story? Every comic I have read with Elsa Bloodstone in it does not have her as a vampire, and I can find nothing online that backs that up. I'm honestly curious as this would appear to be a big part of her story that I have missed.
@@nvp8191 Elsa Bloodstone is in no way and has never been a vampire in the comics, and in fact she cannot become a vampire as she is immune and her blood is poisonous to them. You are high on crack.
I really love this and I can't wait to see more of Ted and Jack...❤ there's a color version of this whole thing.... I hope you watch the Guardians special
We will for sure watch Guardians special!
This was one of those comics that I saw with the other comics but didn’t know what it was all about except for the the title. Ted’s creature name is Man-Thing. There’s also a one off movie of this character from the nineties I think so it doesn’t actually tie into the MCU directly.
Awesome vid mate never head of this ill have to watch out for it 🔥🔥🔥🔥
They did release a colr version the following year. I prefer this one.
In the comic books he became the Man-Thing when after taking the super soldier formula he was shot and fell into a swamp which was the the nexus of the multiverse. He changed permanently into the Man-Thing who is attracted by emotion, particularly fear. He is the protector of the nexus. Oddly enough that is where Howard the Duck (Trapped in a world he never made) appears in our universe (in a Man Thing comic). As others said, he who feels fear burns at the touch of the Man-Thing. He appeared around at the same time as Swaml Thing (DC comics) has a similar beginning but ate completely different after thay.
This is what Marvel is calling a one shot. The director was the Doctor Strange's musician. Michael Giacchin. First movie too. That Scot was the Punk from Star Trek IV. The one that Spock Vulcan nerve pinched on the bus.
Wonderful selection!
The color one is kinda cool too because its not really "in color" it's colorized black and white
Yeah!!!!!! Christmas Special coming
The SPECIAL opening was based on the opening of 70's special tv programs - like "Because of the following program Wonder Woman and The Incredible Hulk will not be seen this evening." (music plays) the word SPECIAL in white appears on the screen it starts to sping trailin a rainbow of colors as it comes closer and closer to the screen - the words A CBS Special Presentation appear and then the screen goes black we're in space a familiar space ship characters and music give us the show hook - then Very Familiar Theme Music plays as simultaneously the words appear and announcer says "The Star Wars Holiday Special"...
Elsa's a badass in the comics too. Some great issues too. Look up Nextwave. She's in a team with Photon, Boom Boom (X-Force mainstay), Machine Man, and a new character named The Capt. There is a version of this with color too. Ted was a Captain America serum failure who is now Marvel's Swamp Thing, the Nexus of all Realities. The guy in the man thing suit was the guy who plays Black Krrsantan in the Book of Boba Fett. Anyway love this series of y'alls.
Ted Sallis, the monster in this video, in Marvel comics is called "Man-Thing" and is a creature of the Florida Everglades, not a sea creature. His origins started as a biochemist trying to replicate the super soldier formula. After a series of events he was forced to use it on himself to survive a dangerous situation; but being in the particular swampland environment at the time, he mutated into something different than he expected. His touch secretes burning acid on anyone that has negative feelings. Man-Thing is Marvel's version of DC comics' Swamp-Thing, who is also a creature of the swamp.
I'm a little bummed, the Minneapolis Orchestra did a showing last year where they played the music live, and I missed it.
If you are curious about the creators behind this show, the documentary, Director by Night, is a great watch. Thanks for the reaction and reminder of the beauty of creativity 👍
This was directed by Michael Giacchino, long time Marvel COMPOSER. There's a documentary on Disney+ about this.
Loved this show!( and your reactions). One of the things about it being in black and white was that they could show the blood splatter and not get a mature rating! Haven't seen the color version. I believe that was released a bit after the original one.
Ted is a Marvel comics character called Man Thing. He actually plays a very large role in the multiverse as the guardian of the nexus between universes. "He who knows fear will burn at the touch of Man Thing"!
There is a color version of this, too.
The 'Monster' is Man-Thing. And its power? 'Whatever knows fear burns at the Man-Thing's touch.'
I've always thought, maybe as a budget thing, they re-dressed one of the TVA sets. The lights/ceiling area looks just like one of those TVA Hallways. Them seemingly reusing some of the props as the weapons on top of that is just more evidence.
Does Jack's voice sound familiar? He was also a voice in Coco. Gael García Bernal. Born for this role and I hope he comes back as Werewolf by Night.
Jack Russell is the Werewolf by Night. A Jack Russell…. Hilarious!!
Man -Thing!!!! The Man-Thing's (Dr. Theodore "Ted" Sallis) first appeared in Savage Tales #1 (May 1971). Swamp monster.
Watch New Rockstars breakdown of this episode. You don't have to make a reaction over it, but the folks there describe the finer details of everything we just watched and who these characters are and their backstory and how they relate to the bigger MCU.
But they still prefer to go into future projects blind and figure those connections out for themselves, and New Rockstars usually got VERY deep into details that might spoil that for them.
Let’s gooo!
If you take a close look at the Grandmasters tower in Thor Ragnarok you can see Man-Things face at the bottom of the various other sculpted faces. Man-Thing was clearly the original champion of that arena. Fun fact Man-thing is a Nexus being like ScarletWitch. 🙂
So "ManThing" is the name of the other monster and basically he was marvels answer to DC's "SwampThing" Basically just an androgenous nature spirit or man transformed by experiments type of thing.
DBD T-shirt! Yes Rob
✌
What did they do to him? It's Disney - they put animatronics in his corpse.
I liked this little special. Very random but super cool, the women reminds me alot of Jessica Jones, i cant wait for you both to watch the Netflix Series. I do also love Werewolves, so this was a double bonus
Same we loved this Special episode a lot! and indeed we are getting to the netflix show very very soon!
@@robtrinreact2825 I can't wait for it. haha
Marc Spector / Moon Knight's first appeared in Werewolf by Night #32 (August 1975).
The "Marvel Special Presentation" logo that came up at the beginning was a sort of style homage to the little bumpers that US tv networks would put in front of special shows. For example, this one from CBS that always played right before the start of (for example) the Charlie Brown Christmas Special: ua-cam.com/video/pD4LQAKB-YA/v-deo.html
Whoever knows fear burns at the touch of the Man-Thing..
There was a practical Man-Thing suit on set - they limited the CGI to as little as possible. If you've seen the behind the scenes on Last of Us you'll know the bloater suit was also practical.
Ted was man-thing marvels version of swamp thing
❤❤❤❤❤
Bloodstone #1 (December 2001). Elsa Bloodstone.
I love the chances Marvel took in Phase 4. Not all of them landed, but I think it was all worth it for unique gems like this!
Have you guys seen any of the Netflix Marvel shows back from 2016 and 2017 like daredevil or Jessica Jones and Luke Cage?
Not yet, but they will as they have said before.
good watch
Those who know fear burn at the touch of the Man-Thing.
Man-Thing also stars in one of the best-named comics of all time: Giant Sized Man Thing.
To the old horror lovers, this was wonderful. And it came out right about Halloween!
I'm so glad you watched this! I was a little bit afraid that it would be lost in the shuffle, as there are so many movies and series and this is not either thing. But it's also so darned _good_ that it would have been a shame for you to miss it.
Bravo to Michael Giacchino on his spectacular directorial debut (and his predictably brilliant score), and thank you to whomever it was who had the "Marvel-ous" idea of bringing Gael Garcia Bernal into the MCU. A triumph!
Don't worry, we make sure that there is nothing that gets lost in the collection of things and that they can just focus on sticking to the release order mostly.
We even make sure that there's a certain level of surprise left still by only giving them a few of the upcoming things.
@@HIPsteHeero Well, a big thank you for that! Are you including some of the shorts or just sticking to the episode-length or longer pieces. Regardless, I'm very happy to see this reaction.
@@beansfriend7033 They've reacted to I Am Groot over on Patreon, which I think probably answers your question, lol
I just love that Marvel was willing to make something off mainstream and did it so well. So much fun.
Pretty sure the Man-thing will be back, but I hope Jack does too, and in control like he is later in the comics, lol. You don't see a werewolf that can talk very often.
I'd love to see some of these characters return in Blade. And more Man-Thing if we could finally get a Howard the Duck show.
☮
Hey it was nice watching you recognizing the Black Widow's moves 🫶🏽
Such signature moves 😍
marvel had a superhero, metaphysical and horror themed comics back in the day
Marvel released it on Disney+ for Halloween, the black and white version in 2022 and a color version in 2023. I loved it.
I adore Werewolf By Night. It's a wonderful love letter to the classic monster movies. Fun fact: it was directed by Michael Giacchino, better known as the music composer for so many Pixar movies and other films (Incredibles, Coco, Ratatouille, the recent Star Treks, the recent Spider Mans, on and on...). Such a talent.
Will you guys be watching the Daredevil Tv show? LOVE YOUR CONTENT!
Yes, as they have said before xD
Yep, very confused by this post. No idea this was a thing.
the "colorized" version was released a year later, probably as a "We have to release *something* for Halloween!"
Ted (Man-Thing) was actually primarily a practical suit with an actor inside with some animatronics features, mostly for the facial movements. They also had a full size all animatronic version on-set.
Why did the werewolf like, comment, and subscribe? He didn’t want to miss any of the ‘pawsome’ content!”
😍😍 very cool way to say it.
I left out supernatural themed as well
"She's Black Widow."
More like Black and White Widow
can't argue with that 😁
Youre not watching She Hulk? Even tho some people might not like it I would say its still worth watching since it expands the story of quite a lot of other returning characters
As someone who grew up on Sensation She-Hulk, I thought it was great.
They're watching in release order. Did they skip it?
They have watched the entirety of She-Hulk - and really enjoyed it - over on Patreon. However, they did watch this first. But also, since it would probably unfortunately most likely not get a lot of attention, apart from negative one, it is still a big question if it is worth all the time and effort to edit it for UA-cam.
@@HIPsteHeero well that would be unprecedented for this channel. Is this something they said or an assumption you're making?
Also ----- If you think the wolf transformation in Harry Potter was bad, you need to watch The Vampire Dairies, it's even worse in that show, the pain and torture some characters have to go through in that show is shocking haha
Guys, this is the only MCU movie or show I skipped. I have not figured out how it fits into the Multiverse Saga. Dane, Sersei's boyfriend? Blade maybe? Nevertheless, I am very glad I watched it with you. Good job, guys 👍
Have you watched Morbius?
No we didn't yet.
It always seems weird to me when they make werewolf transformations look painful. It’s about as painful as sneezing.
Tell me more, lol
You guys called him the cute monster 😂
Don't think I've ever heard Man-Thing described that way. I mean his name is Man-THING, not Man-Cutie 😆
They had a comic book called Giant Size Man Thing back in 1974. They published 5 issues before they figured out that the title was a problem.
@@victorluke5816 OMG!! Seriously? Thanks for that, it was a laugh out loud moment 😂😂
