The view is already spoiled with b…dy windmills, aghhhrr. I am planning to buy a small house in Portugal. We thought about long-term let but everything looks run down even on pictures. What is the point of renting and doing up someone else’s kitchen and bathrooms. I am set for a new development, but most of what I see have these ridiculous terraces on the second floor (what a waste of the building footprint) and the plots (it is difficult to call them gardens) are at least half paved, the other half consist of a pool and a small patch of grass. Houses are almost touching one another, zero privacy and probably also quite a lot of noise if people buy to rent. One would not be able to live long enough to grow a few trees and there is no space to plant anything, unless the paving were removed. Instead of air conditioning, a strategically placed tree provides all the shade and cool air in the sun. How sad it is to look only at bare hills with a remote patch of the ocean, and hardly any tree around. Old houses that are listed are either in need of a complete overhaul , mostly have no trees either or are beyond any reasonable price range. One could buy a chateau in France or a lovely listed house from 18th-19th century and grounds in Italy for what some people want for modest and run down houses in Portugal silver coast area. How are the natives coping if foreigners price them out of the market so spectacularly. Or perhaps there are two property markets. One for gullible and not very discerning foreigners and one for the locals.
