What I’ve learned is to check with each individual airlines as to the type of carrier and documentation they require for animals.
Hello how're you doing today hope you're safe due to the covid 19 pandemic?
Hi Janice! This is all great information! I've traveled with my cat before and thankfully she was very good. I would recommend you also take a foldable litter box for your cat and take a little bag of litter as well. I used the single person family restroom between flights so I could let my cat out of her carrier to uses the bathroom. I know dogs typically have 'pet relief' stations at airports. It might also be a good idea to line the bottom of the bag with a pee pad as well in case any accidents happen (or even water spills) during the flight. For your dogs food, if need be, you could try freezing the soft food pack too so it slowly thaws out by the time you need to feed him. Best of luck! I'm enjoying following your journey!
That is great advice about the food! Thank you Buster will be wearing a diaper under his onesie!
Also thank you for following me
Kudos for not leaving the pets behind! Greetings from Milan.
Thank you
I am travelling tomorrow with four cats and my old blind/ deaf dog. From France to the UK, via the Euro tunnel. Driving from Burgundy to Calais with a overnight stop before taking the train the following morning. All my pets have EU passports, so only the dog needs his worm tablet and passport stamped by vet before we leave. Going via the tunnel, at least the animals stay in the car with me, and have there own check-in facilities. It’s always stressful , if there is anything on the passport that’s incorrect, they can stop the animal travelling. Good Luck on your new adventure. I have a friend that moved from the UK to France when he was 90 years old. He is now 103 years old, so life is good here.
We live in Germany and often travel to UK with our dogs on the Chunnel
It’s so easy
Well I’m glad you informed me of this because I thought I couldn’t take my dog with me. I may be us if I am just by myself traveling in the tunnel you know when I see that I can’t take the dog with somewhere I read that I couldn’t take it with me! This is good news
@@jandeerwester1727 we have the dogs in the back of the car. They do need to have had rabies vaccine and also a worm treatment from the vet before they enter UK
Oh, I so agree
"My cat, who is not the friendliest"person" in the world".... lol...you are a pot of gold.
I’m probably a pot or something lol just kidding thank you so much for your kind words
Excellent overview, Janice! I have traveled to Europe many times with my dogs, and I wish I had tutorial like this. Best wishes to you and your furry kids on your relocation to France!
Thank you and you did subscribe correct?
Janice - I recently found your channel and I’m so excited for you! I love when I see people who are brave enough to follow their dreams. We only live on this earth once, so we need to make the most of it. This is going to be a great chapter in your life and I’m so happy to have to opportunity to follow along! ❤️
Thank you so much and I do appreciate you following me
Hello how're you doing today hope you're safe due to the covid 19 pandemic?
Glad i found you early in your journey. I am 68, and I can relate on several levels. I have been wanting to go to France since I discovered Chateau Diaries on UA-cam during the early days of COVID. There are several British chateau owners in France, many are friends, and they do not lack English speaking (Brits) tradesmen to assist in renovation. You will do well. Watching their vlogs makes me want to emigrate.
I lived in Atlanta for 18 years ('81-2000). When I heard you speak about the 10 give-aways that you are American, I knew you were from a Southern city. I guessed Atlanta.
I moved to the Catskill mountains of NY, 21 years ago with my husband, and three cats. I am now retired. My husband, seeing how much I watch these French Chateau vlogs, recently asked me if I want to go to France for a couple of months. Woo. Hoo. I am in the middle of another move right now (hubby's work), but maybe late Spring. Can't wait.
Take care of yourself that moving can be a real issue when it comes to our bodies
Janice, I just want you to know that you are my role model and inspiration.
Oh goodness I better watch my Ps & Qs lol
Merci bien Janice ❤
Thanks for all the details ❤
My pleasure 😊
This is such important information for those that travel with their furry companions. Thanks for your help.
You’re very welcome
Thank you
Great information
I am so excited to watch your vlogs.
Thank you
I so appreciate you going over this information. I have traveled domestically via air and car with my pup, but now I have 2 and I want to travel outside of the country and I have numerous questions and concerns about accommodating them, touring and enjoying myself. I look forward to more pet info.
If I can ever help you out just let me know
Great video! Super informative and very clearly explained! Thanks.

Hello how're you doing hope you're safe due to the covid 19 pandemic?
I’m very well and safe. Thank you
I love your attitude. All the best in France ;)
To get into the EU when I moved back to France, I needed a blood test to certify the rabies shot was still active in the blood stream of my cat and dog.
That’s interesting I had never heard of that before
Subscribed. I live some 600km's south of you. Welcome! Excited to see how you settle and all your adventures! LOVE you brought your animals.
Of course I brought my animals they’re part of my family. Thank you so much for your kind words
I wondered if pets were allowed a comfort item in their bag. I can't imagine never being on a plane and then having those two take offs and landings. It can be so disturbing for pets. I'm glad you are thinking ahead.
Yes you can put a comfort item in their bag but to be very honest my two animals didn’t need it. But if you have an animal has a favorite pet I think it would be a great thing to do
Thank you! Truly very informative! Best of luck!
Thank you so much
Thank you
Greetings from South Africa.
Well thank you greetings from South Africa I appreciate you subscribing and say hello. Thank you very much
look forward to your vlogs - lisa in New Zealand
Thank you

Of course no problem
Thank you Janice! 🫧 I am bringing my poodle to France! You put my mind at ease, as I’m doing all of these steps too!
Fabulous best of luck to you!
Thank you
Thanks for the tips !!!
Of course thank you for following me
You bet!
Hi Janice…I recently found your vlog ! I currently live in Jakarta, Indonesia on temporary assignment. Back in 2021 I had to fly from the US with my cat to Jakarta and total travel time was 36 hours due to a long layover in the Netherlands ! I know what you mean about all the hoops you have to jump through to travel with a pet ! Looking forward to watching your vlog! 😊
Thank you so much for filling us in. Oh my goodness I can’t even imagine 36 hours bless your heart and your pets heart. Thank you for joining me and I hope you had a chance to subscribe.
Thank You for you información
Thank you
Great video
Thank you
Thank you
Interesting !
Thank you
WRITE BOOKS FOR US JANICE! I will never remember all this and I will never remember where the video is so please write a leaflet for animals and the visa requirements too so that we can keep them handy if we need to use the information in the future. Just slim leaflets printed on copy paper will be good enough, don't bother with publishers . Charge for them too , it will help buy treats for the animals!)
That’s a great idea
Hi Janice.....excited to follow your journey! I'm planning my trip to France in March to explore the possibility of living/retiring there. Have you left on your trip yet? I would love for you to share some info on how you planned your immediate stay upon arrival. Did you go to a hotel and plan to look for a more long term rental once u have a chance too explore the town? What about car rental, etc. Please share your travel/planning experience. Thanks!!
No fortunately I had an apartment to come to which I was so happy that I did. No more moving around.
I just did a video on this and it will be out this evening on Thursday
Airline regulations here in Australia stipulate animals cannot travel in the cabin. Only in the cargo hold. And animal travel must be handled by an animal transport company. Very different rules.
Yes very!
Bonjour! Is there a reason you had to fly with a stop-over in New York, rather than direct, from Atlanta to Paris, (especially with the animals)? This has been a great, very informative video! I am looking forward to more! I also live in Atlanta, and am considering moving to France in a couple of years. Thank you!
No there was no reason I took the two flies except I thought it would be easier on the animals, but I found out soon that it was not easier on the animals or me. I will never do a layover again.
@@jandeerwester1727 Thank you for your reply! I have a cat, too…and I definitely want a smooth trip. Hoping for onboard with me.
No, I thought it would be easier on animals and me… but I was wrong!
@@JaniceInFrance 😹 Totally understand! This is why your channel is so valuable! It is very helpful to those who wish to follow. Thank you!
Thx Janice. Very helpful. What happens if they have to “go?” That’s my biggest concern 😮
You don’t feed or water them 4 hours before flight
This is a lot less complicated then getting animals from Canada to the UK. We were going to fly from Canada to France, and then get the train over, but then in the end that was even too much hassle. So we just paid the extortionate fees, and was done with it.
Yes it is
Yep
Pets can’t fly into the UK in cabin
We have traveled from US to Europe several times with dogs
Well that’s sad to hear
Janice, are you from the South?
Yes girl! Lol
Hello Janice, when you arrive to the airport in France didn’t they required any blood tests?
Noooo
Wonderful information. I'm just confused about one thing. Do they need an actual American passport with their photo. Asking because you showed a passport. If so, do we aquire that passport at the same passport office we obtain ours? I love France. I lived there for many years and I'm considering returning. I'm glad I found your channel. I'm looking forward to your future videos.❤
No they don’t need an actual passport it’s just called a pet passport
@@jandeerwester1727 Thank you.❤
It’s more of an inoculation passport, correct? I got one when in Germany going back to USA. I didn’t get one going to Germany, though. Just a bunch of papers to have stamped at the USDA. It seemed more complicated that what you described. I hope it has gotten easier since 2016.
Hello how're you doing hope you're safe due to the covid 19 pandemic?
Hi Janice
I need a guidance to bring my pet dog from India to Paris. Please help
If you will go back to one of my UA-cam so I talk about traveling with my pet. I don’t know what the rules are for India but I know coming to France you have to do some Raby shots and a clean bill of health etc. etc. But check my videos there is one about my animals
Janice I am returning to France but this time with my 12 pound Maltese and my question is when I arrive in Orly and I go through immigration what will they ask about my dog and do I go straight to my vet in Paris or do I have to see a vet in the airport?what did you do on arrival?
Since I had my dog on board with me, he just was handled with me as I walked out of the airport they didn’t check my dog or anything. They only do that at the other end when you leave. You do not have to go to a vet at all are you moving to France and living here? You would want to go register with the vet but you don’t have to see a vet at the airport.
Hi Janice.
I live in Atlanta as well
Would you please give me Name of veterinary does Pet Passport ?
Thank you
There’s veterinarians all over Atlanta that does that mine was in Cumming Georgia so if little Cumming, Georgia has a veterinarian you can find one in Atlanta but if you can’t, you can go to coming to the clinic that I went to just email me at Janice and france@gmail.com
Hi Janice, just wondering, do you speak French?
A little
The documents need to be translated?
No, they don’t
Did you have to do the first check up 6 mos prior to the 10 days before vet? I heard that from someone but I don’t have 6 mos so hoping this isn’t correct info. Thank you!
No
Hi Janice, thank you for the informations. Did you do rabies anti-body lab test for your pets 3 months prior to your departure date? I am moving from Canada to France and I learned that rabies anti-body lab test is required.
No, they did not do an antibody test. All they did was a rabies shot and check them out to make sure they’re healthy.
@@JaniceInFrance Thank you, Janice :)
I have a standard poodle, a mini doodle and two cats! How much to transport big pets who can’t come in the cabin? I’ll have to Google.
Don’t worry about googling just go to the various airlines that you might be using. I do know that the prices of going into cargo have gone up to 200 now that was Delta and that was about three or four weeks ago so they were always changing. Make sure you have a nonstop.
Around 250
Different airlines different costs
Can you please share the brand of pet carrier you have for your dog and cat. Thank you!
Sherpa’s pet trading company
@@jandeerwester1727 I have a Sherpa backpack that I’ve been using to take cats to the vet for a least fifteen years. They’re very well-made and sturdy enough to handle a cat moving around on pubic transit yet comfortable enough for the cat to sleep if you decide to stop at a café along the way. Too bad they’re not also soundproof.
@@polishtheday I love mine. Fortunately Brenda my dog doesn’t bark so it’s OK lol
@@JaniceInFrance I used to have a cat that missed me too much when I was away so she became a frequent flyer. She’s meow loudly for the entire trip. I once took her out of the carrier in L.A. airport. She took one look at the noisy crowd, tried to hide her face under my arm and was happy to get back in the carrier.
@@polishtheday Thanks for sharing that was a cute story
🙋🏻♀️subtítulos please🙏🏼
Will do video
Hi Janice. Me and my poodle are also looking to move to France in a year or two. I would really be interested in your experience in getting a long term visa, buying property as a foreigner, opening a bank account there and also medical insurance for foreigners living in France. These things are a worry to me [as I have heard stories about French bureaucracy]....and I would appreciate any advice you could offer in your videos :)
If you will go to my very first video I believe it is my first UA-cam it will give you a little bit of information
Well, everything you’ve heard about French bureaucracy is very true
This is unbelievably boring!
I am so sorry that you did not like my video and then it was boring to you, and hopefully the next one will be more to your liking. If you have any ideas of videos that you would like to see please let me know thank you for following me
Then watch something else! No one is forcing you!
Richard, how unbelievably rude. It’s not boring for people who are interested in the topic, in fact It’s quite helpful.
