"Investigators" and "baffled" are not what you want to see in the same sentence. I hope those folks get justice.
That's a Media thing . The Investigators aren't saying they are baffled , they are still working the case .
You are a gullible person. Of course they know a lot more then what there telling the public. They assume the killer is watching the news and don't want to give him any inclination of what they might of found.

Is it possible for the citizens to fire the police and the feds, and call in a competent party who actually don't get baffled?
A few days ago, a very close neighbor said he hadn't even been questioned yet. I have an inkling that incompetence in the early days of this investigation will likely come to light soon.
If that neighbor had something of importance to help the investigation, why didn't they contact the Police ?
Did that neighbor have anything of value to contribute to the investigation? If he did why would he not reach out to the police?
These rural police forces sometimes are strongholds of hick incompetence! Nepotism runs strong out in the sticks! Jethro couldn't make it through the academy, but there is absolutely nothing else he could possibly do; so mom and dad being well established in the community, get him in with a pass! It's just the people who pay the price with over paid id-iots soaking up your ever increasing tax dollars! I moved to Montana twenty years ago from California, and it's crazy how much corruption there is here!! The police protect their local buddies from any accountability or retribution concerning outsiders! If you think the law enforcement is bad, wait till you have a medical problem...... I'd head back to the coastal areas where there are doctors who know what they are doing beside making money and killing people!!! SERIOUSLY!!!!
@@christoph1596 Doesn't matter. It's literally not the neighbors job. It's the investigator's job. Good police work involves going door to door when murders happen in shared buildings like that.

They've exhausted all available leads, which means their belief that this was someone familiar with the victims and the house is likely not valid.
They should never have said this was a "targeted" attack, because that term means different things to different people.
I do not believe this is someone who knows the victims at all well, or knew the layout of the house. I do not believe this was a "targeted" attack and that there was some kind of grudge or vengeance.
What did the victims have in common and separate from those who survived? Two things immediately spring to mind:
1. Their locations in the house
2. The doors they might have used to gain entry
All of the victims were on the second and third floors, this area is accessed by the sliding door.
The two survivors were on the first floor, this ares is accessed by the coded door.
I believe the only reason those four were killed and the other two were not is because the killer saw the victims enter through the sliding door and had no idea there was a first floor or two other girls in the house. I believe he was watching the home from the wooded area at the back (hunting/combat knife is indicative of this person's interests and lifestyle). He watched the four in the home and entered some time later through that same door.
I do not think the authorities should be looking for a student or a friend/ex/acquaintance. They should be looking for a man in this 30s or 40s who spends a lot of time in the woods playing Rambo and hunting animals.
They're not going to find DNA in the house because he did not use a kitchen knife and cut himself, he used a hunting/combat knife which has a hilt to prevent self--injury. It's not unreasonable to assume that such a character would also have a mask of some kind to protect from cold, and probably gloves also. The only clue they're likely to find in that house is boot prints, and if I'm right they will be a brand associated with either the military or hunting.
Yeah, this is kind of the conclusion I've come to as well. The perp is definitely into hunting. Heard they found some tire tracks, but the foots prints...seems about right. Said it before, but if look to the NE of the town, it looks dense with woods.
@CT, valid points but I think it’s still too early to say that all possible leads have been exhausted. It’s been one week, and the first several days seemed very disorganized at best. Not to mention the university administration has given everybody a free pass to leave campus early and for as long as they need, and isn’t pressuring anyone to attend classes. So if a fellow student did this, he… Going with a man here as statistically more likely given the mode of killing… Could easily have left the area and his absence would not stand out as unusual. Investigators have admitted that this is compromised the investigation because they’ve got to track down persons that might have relevant information at their parents homes or wherever they’ve gone. I agree that this person is likely an experienced hunter who is very comfortable with the type of knife used and was able to incapacitate his victims before they could scream. Since this is rural Idaho I would expect a fairly large percentage of the student body to have been hunting since childhood. If this were a stranger killing from an unsub who is older and not a student, that raises the question of “why that particular night?“ We are deep into the school year now and the residents of that house have been there since at least August, possibly most of them have been there for two years. I didn’t hear how long they all lived there, but they were all juniors and seniors so they could have been in their second year at that house. An unsub Who’s been watching them would have had other opportunities before now I would suppose, if the house is as legendary a party house as has been suggested, it’s been unsecured for quite a long time. Also with the stranger killing of this type- Very up close attack on three beautiful girls, I would expect to see some sign of sexual assault, Or some history of previous attempts. Have there been reports of attempted break-ins in the area? Have other students, particularly young women noticed weird guys loitering around or been harassed by guys they don’t know? Have there been any similar knife crimes or attacks or co-eds That would suggest a serial attacker? For some reason, it was this house and these women on this night. The element that does not fit is Ethan. He didn’t live there but was just spending the night. The couple had been dating for a year, So he probably slept over frequently. But a random thrill killer Targeting a house full of young women might have reconsidered going in that night if there was a man there who could potentially offer more resistance. It might not be a person any of the victims knew really well but there has to be a connection. There’s student housing all over the place in the area so if we have a Ted Bundy style psychopath on the loose maybe this will happen again if it hasn’t already happened in the past. I am leaning toward it being more personal toward one or more of the victims in the house, but the local law-enforcement ineptitude does not inspire very much confidence. If it is a student, I think someone is going to talk.

@@emvenezuela9648 The food truck looked pretty busy when the girls were there as the bars had just let out. The food truck manager was busy serving customers and would’ve had tons of witnesses. There’s no indication that he followed them home which would’ve meant leaving in the middle of a rush. The hoodie guy they were with is more likely to know where they lived, but police say they ruled him out. I don’t think it’s the food truck man.

Two of the victims had defensive wounds ! One of the two roommates who killer spared said she heard some screaming but she thought her friends were partying and having a good time ! I’m sorry good time noises and being slaughtered screams are quite different I imagine ! Time will tell …. My prayers to all the families 🙏🙏🙏…. If I’m wrong and I hope I am I own it ! Just hard to understand someone brutally stabbing 4 people one at a time and they didn’t hear anything….

Have they checked the outgoing flights from the nearest airport and departing busses? Check for someone with defensive wounds?

Big problem for the police is that the university released everyone early who wanted to leave. Classes are still being held but they’re not making anybody attend, so in the two or three days after the killings there was a mass exodus from campus of students going home early for Thanksgiving break. Tons of departures, and it’s most likely that if the perpetrator has left campus they did so in a private vehicle. The type of knife used indicates someone experienced in hunting, military… Maybe both. These knives are designed to prevent self injury, and a person that would bring a weapon like this to the scene probably was prepared enough to not leave any forensic evidence behind. If he surprised four kids in their beds who were heavily intoxicated in the middle of the night, the advantage was definitely in his favor.

@@MissOrchid12 All the reports I've seen have featured photos of a heavy-duty hunting knife like the kind used to skin and gut game in the field. It has a ridged rubber handle specifically designed to prevent self-injury. In that rural area of Idaho, lots of residents would be into game hunting and own these. They are probably available at most sporting goods stores and places like Walmart, but I doubt this knife was a recent purchase. A kitchen knife would point to a weapon of opportunity. High possibility of injury to the killer's hands with a kitchen knife. That would be better for DNA purposes, but I don't think the investigation is going to get that lucky. If the killer entered the home while everyone was out and was able to reconnoiter the bedrooms and the kitchen, he could have used a knife from the house but I don't think so. The two blonde girls both worked at the same restaurant, so I'm wondering if there might be a suspect there--lots of knives in a professional kitchen and a comfort level with knives.
At this point I imagine the boyfriend who doesn't answer his phone is the main suspect.

TMZ reported that one victim made frantic calls to BF that went unanswered. Maybe at that time they discovered a stranger or strangers in the house and they may have started stabbing the other couple and heard noises. The main question I have is why didn't the victims call 911 first.

Ok, so if I would hear weird sounds at night I would call my boyfriend first too to ask what I should do, to give me guidance! When I lived in my mums house for a while on my own I also called her one night because I heard noises, turned out that she knew there was an animal running over the roof of the house which I did not know, so it was good I called my mum first. Its not unusual to call your boyfriend if you want them to come over when you dont feel safe. And then it was probably too late for them to call 911 because they already were murdered.

Starting on the 2nd or at the latest the 3rd day this should have been out of your jurisdiction. There are folks who know where to start on these things. You most likely destroyed critical evidence. Could be more than one person using the same style knife. There can be more than one of the same knife. Unless the blood intermingled there’s no way to be sure it’s actually the same one. It seems crazy that one person did all of this and 2 others on the house didn’t hear anything. Party screams and screams of terror are very different. Or maybe they were drugged. Just don’t know. It’s all very weird

So glad this report didn't refer to it as a "Rambo" knife. It was a survival knife, like the KABAR USMC or possibly a hunting knife, like a Buck 119 or 120.
Certainly some on that campus know or are aware of a friend, classmate etc who has a thing for knives. Like some collect coins, others collect knives. This is a Kabar knife. Not a butter knife that one would find in any kitchen.

Seems like hunting business’ could supple sample of all possible knives and coroner/forensics could match a blade to a wound size. So they know what to look for. Could the knife be stolen from the food truck? Restaurant? Could neighbors have outdoor cameras pointing to roads nearby. Prob not many cars on road at 4:00 am.
In this terrain and small town, most students would go and come in a car? Or bus maybe.
